Kris Kristofferson - Down to her socks (Songwriter, 1984)
Down to her Socks Here's a song about a good 'ole girl with a big 'ole heart that got broke 'cause she was in love with some son of a bitch who didn't love her back enough ... Slowly she sank to her knees on the floor Cursin' the freedom she'd won From the torture she vowed not to take anymore And the victim she'd almost become Chorus: For a lady who'd learned all there is about leaving She sure took a long time to go But he loved her right down to her socks and no further And her feet were the last ones to know.

Kris Kristofferson - Crossing the border (1984)
It had to be this song and it had to be this movie... Thank you, Willem, for encouraging me and for the song and all the vinyls :-) When I uploaded the video for the first time it was the day (May 9, 2009) when Stephen was crossing another border for no return, and I didn't know about it then. He also had some tiny scenes in the movie, even with the dancing scene here, but I didn't catch him for the vid... We miss you, Stephen. RIP www.youtube.com www.vimeo.com You won't really notice him in the vid; he is just sitting down to the fiddle player's right playing the guitar... If I had known... I would have put in the 2 seconds with him and the guitar and a dusty face that were near the end of the dance scene in the movie. The song is from the album "Music from Songwriter" (1984) The album was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score, losing out to Prince's "Purple Rain" I was deeply impressed by the movie "Heaven's Gate" (1980). Bought the DVD and watched it despite of the many bad reviews that it had received from American critics... To me it's hard stuff, but kind of a masterpiece, and the subject is interesting, I had never heard of that war before. en.wikipedia.org I haven't read really unfair reviews in German about it, although the selfish cowards among the immigrants again speak German (in the German dubbed movie they speak Russian ;-)). The real Ella Watson and Jim Averell both were lynched in the Johnson County War. It's nice to have it on DVD ...

Kris Kristofferson - Rocket to stardom (1975)
- blocked in Germany for Sony music content... Sorry... Fair use - no copyright violation intended This funny, cheeky song is from Kris's great album "Who's to bless and who's to blame" (1975) I've read that Kris was inspired for this song by the attempts of some people to get him and Rita listen to their songs via the security camera that was installed outside their Malibu home ... But I was also told that he once introduced this song to the audience by telling them that Roger McGuinn of The Byrds had this closed circuit TV installed on his property, and that this was what had inspired him to write this song ... Maybe Kris even didn't have a security system at his home back then ... Or maybe there is a bit of them two stories that made up the true inspiration ... It makes me smile whenever I listen to it ... Bet they were having a lot of fun and whatever else while recording it ... Just listen to the choir and the instruments and noises ... I always had some silly performances of casting shows in my mind (I hate them and actually don't watch them) when I listen to the song ... Them all performing in a driveway instead on the stages ;-)) But I think it's more enjoyable with scenes from Kris's movies ;-)) Warren Oates also sings in the chorus... Most of the scenes are from Songwriter (1984) and Sodbusters (1994) - though not many scenes with Kris in the latter one - A star is born (1976) and Semi-tough (1977); a few are from Blume in love (1973); and tiny scenes are from ...

Tin Pan Caravan: Anais Mitchell- 1984
1984 is a song that cleverly fuses George Orwell's novel "1984" with the times of today also adding to the punchline of Prince's 1999. Probably one of the most clever tunes I've heard in years. What a group of musicians. I shot this footage at Guilford College during a very intimate show. Sit back and enjoy some music that your mind will enjoy. Visit their site. tinpancaravan.com

John Lennon - Nobody Told Me. Top Of The Pops 1984
OFFICIAL VIDEO recorded from Top Of the Pops 1984. John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (9 October 1940 -- 8 December 1980) was an English musician and singer-songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles, one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music. Along with fellow Beatle Paul McCartney, he formed one of the most successful songwriting partnerships of the 20th century. Born and raised in Liverpool, Lennon became involved as a teenager in the skiffle craze; his first band, The Quarrymen, evolved into The Beatles in 1960. As the group disintegrated towards the end of the decade, Lennon embarked on a solo career that produced the critically acclaimed albums John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, and iconic songs such as "Give Peace a Chance" and "Imagine". Lennon disengaged himself from the music business in 1975 to devote time to his family, but re-emerged in 1980 with a new album, Double Fantasy. He was murdered three weeks after its release. Lennon revealed a rebellious nature and acerbic wit in his music, his writing, his drawings, on film, and in interviews, and he became controversial through his political activism. He moved to New York City in 1971, where his criticism of the Vietnam War resulted in a lengthy attempt by Richard Nixon's administration to deport him, while his songs were adopted as anthems by the anti-war movement. As of 2010, Lennon's solo album sales in the ...

Takeaways - Sweet & Sour (1984)
Music from Australia and New Zealand in the year 1984: Takeaways' promo-video for the hit single 'Sweet & Sour' taken from the 1984 album 'Sweet & Sour' - soundtrack album to the popular ABC-TV series of same name. Note: The Takeaways were a fictitious band that was the centre of an ABC-TV series tiled 'Sweet & Sour'; a tale about a young band seeking fame and fortune in the music industry. The Takeaways did not play their own instruments on this track, but instead left the music to professional musicians. The vocals on this track is performed by Deborah Conway of Do Re Mi. The song was written by the brilliant Kiwi songwriter Sharon O'Neill. The show was created by Tim Gooding and Johanna Pigott (ex-XL Capris/Scribble). Incidently, David Reyne (who plays Martin Kabel on guitar) was once a member of Australian Crawl with brother James. en.wikipedia.org Sweet_and_Sour_%28TV_series%29 ------------------------------------------- NZOZ NZOZ1984 1984 Australia Mid Eighties 1980's 1980s 80's 80s Extended Tags: David Reyne, Australian Crawl, Deborah Conway, Do Re Mi, Johanna Pigott, Sharon O'Neill Musical Terms: New Wave, Pop, Synth, Dance, Aussie, Old Australian Band

R.I.P. JIMMY "THE REV" SULLIVAN - TRIBUTE VIDEO
• All Interviews were shot in 2007 for Avenged Sevenfold's "All Excess" DVD
• Edited by Rafa Alcantara
M. SHADOWS TALKS ABOUT THE REV
I don’t know how to start this or know where to begin. First I would like to thank all the fans for their support through the passing of Jimmy. It has been comforting to see his fans, our fans, and everyone in general give their support. Jimmy was my best friend, as he was best friends with many other people including the members of Avenged Sevenfold. He was hands down the greatest person I have ever known. I told him I loved him everyday. He demanded your love and was never afraid to give it back. I have walked side by side with Jimmy, everyday, for the last 18 years of my life. I have no memories before Jimmy, and it’s going to be damn hard to move forward without him here. It still doesn’t seem real. He was my best friend, songwriting partner, band mate, confidant, and most importantly, he was my brother. The crazy thing about Jimmy was that everyday was a crazy story. We have told our favorite Jimmy stories for the last 2 weeks and never have we repeated ourselves. This guy was magical. The out pour of art from his soul was unlike the world has ever seen. Unless you spent a day with Jimmy, or 18 years, it’s impossible to explain, so I’m not going to try. He inspired people in different ways. He wasn’t just a drummer, he honestly didn’t care so much for the technical side of drums, cause he could play anything he wanted. He was all about creating beautiful songs, original fills and hopefully touching people with his art and mind. He told all of us for years, including his parents, that he knew two things in life. He wanted to be a rockstar, and that he wasn’t going to live past 30 years old. He was right on both accounts, but I know Jimmy, and if he knew how much pain this would cause for the ones he left behind, he would have done anything he could to stick around a little longer. Jimmy gave so much and in the end it was his time to go. All my reasons for wanting him to stay are selfish and I know he is in a better place then this, so in a way I’m joyful that my best friend is now at peace. He made it to the other side first and I can’t wait to hang with him again. I have so much to say but can’t find the words so I will wait until time can allow me to find a way to express myself. As for the rest of us, it has become clear what we need to do. We had just finished writing a record with Jimmy. I can’t promise what the future holds because right now it’s too painful to think about, but we know we need to record and put out this record in honor of Jimmy, for Jimmy. He would call me every night to talk about songs and tell me “this shit is gonna change the world.” I agreed with him, unfortunately I didn’t know it would be on these terms. Please be patient with us for we cannot imagine how hard this is gonna be to get through, we just know we have to do it for his legacy. After that, who knows? But I know Jimmy will help us make that decision when the time comes. I love you Jimmy and I feel like the luckiest man in the world to have known you and spent 18 years of my life with you. Rest in Peace my friend.

Steve Miller Band - Shangri-la (1984)
Italian X Rays is the thirteenth album by American rock band The Steve Miller Band, released in 1984. "Who Do You Love?" and "Out of the Night" were songs co-written by Steve Miller and Tim Davis. Tim Davis had been a co-founder of the Steve Miller Band and had been a drummer, singer and songwriter with the band during its first five albums, released between 1968 and 1970. As of 1984, Davis was suffering from the effects of diabetes, and died four years later. Referring to "Out of the Night", Steve Miller wrote, in the liner notes to the Steve Miller Band Box Set (1994), "This is the last song I wrote with Tim Davis. Tim was dying at the time from diabetes and it had taken a terrible toll on him. But he never lost his good humor."...... here's one of my favorites from the album..... "Shangri-la", enjoy!

Matthew Wilder - Break My Stride. Top Of The Pops 1984
Good quality video recorded live in the studio from Top Of The Pops 1984. Matthew Wilder (born Matthew Weiner, January 24, 1953, Manhattan, New York, New York) is an American musician, composer and record producer, best known for his 1983 Top 5 hit, "Break My Stride". Wilder was one-half of the Greenwich Village folk group Matthew & Peter in the 1970s. In 1978 he moved to Los Angeles, California, and sang for television commercials, and as a backing vocalist for Rickie Lee Jones and Bette Midler. Wilder's debut album, I Don't Speak the Language (1983), reached No.49 on the Billboard 200 chart, fueled by "Break My Stride", which reached No.5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Wilder had some continued success with the single "The Kid's American", which reached No.33 in 1984, but the single failed to match the success of "Break My Stride". Wilder's second album, Bouncin' Off the Walls (1984), failed to gain much momentum — even with an innovative music video for the single "Bouncin' Off the Walls", with only the title track making the charts (No.52), and was subsequently deemed a commercial failure. Despite the collapse of his solo career, Wilder continued his career in the music industry as a songwriter and as a record producer for such acts as No Doubt (the hit album Tragic Kingdom), 702, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus on her Hannah Montana song "GNO (Girls Night Out)", The Belle Brigade, King Charles, Joanna Pacitti and many others. Matthew Wilder lent his ...

Billy Bragg Sings "There Is Power In A Union" & Talks About 1984 Mineworkers Union Strike
DemocracyNow.org - In an extended interview with popular British singer-songwriter and activist Billy Bragg on Democracy Now!, he sings his song, "There Is Power In A Union." In the 1980s, he called for support for the 1984 strike by the National Union of Mineworkers, one of the most significant chapters in Britain's trade union history. It was ultimately defeated under the watch of then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Bragg went on to organize for the defeat of Thatcher and her Conservative government.
