Google Doodle: Independence Day of Indonesia 2012
The Proclamation of Indonesian Independence (Indonesian: Proklamasi Kemerdekaan Indonesia, or simply Proklamasi) was read at 10.00 am on Friday, August 17, 1945. The declaration marked the start of the diplomatic and armed-resistance of the Indonesian National Revolution, fighting against the forces of the Netherlands until the latter officially acknowledged Indonesia's independence in 1949. In 2005, the Netherlands declared that they had decided to accept 17 August 1945 as Indonesia's independence date. Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta, who were appointed President and Vice-president, respectively, were the document's signatories.

Indonesia, The Independence War -(Final) Freedom, "Hari Kemerdekaan"
On December 27th, 1949, Indonesia became free from Dutch rule, as the formal transfer of power from the Netherlands to a newly independent Indonesia took place at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. This video shows the the final few hours of Dutch rule, and the start of a new Republic called Indonesia, which ended over 350 years of struggle against colonialism. Indonesia was finally free after being occupied in its long history by the Netherlands, Britain, France and Japan.. In a short period of time, since the Japanese occupation of Indonesia, the dream of true independence had been achieved, after a bitter struggle. Once Sukarno, and other independence leaders declared Indonesia a free nation on August 17th,1945. It had been a turbulent four years, with armed resistance against the British forces who initially arrived to restore Dutch rule, and at one pivotal stage in this struggle, conflict with 140.000 troops from the Netherlands-who were ordered to quell any rebellion against the restoration of the Netherlands Indies..This had finally, it had ended with freedom. Today, Independence day is celebrated on August 17th, the time in the hearts and minds of ordinary Indonesians they truly became free to choose their own destiny as a nation. '"We are now free" Music- "Gugur Bunga," and "Indonesia Raya."

Japanese Samurai :who contributed to Indonesian independence
Do you know a song that Indonesians have sung for fifty years? It is called the "PETA March". PETA means Homeland Defense Volunteer Army in Indonesian. "Asia rose against its enemy. They have sacrificed themselves and tried their best. To destroy the United Nations Army, they sacrificed their own lives. March forward! PETA. You are the hero of Asia and Indonesia. May God bless holy Asia. Old Asia has struggled with their unhappy history. We suffered from tyranny many years. The Great Japan stood up to the tyrants, saved Asia and protected us all. March forward! PETA. You are the hero of Asia and Indonesia...." Why Indonesian people sang about sung "The Great Japan"? Frankly, when Japan made inroads into colonial Indonesia, its people got a chance to their independence from the Netherlands' colony. Indonesians have believed that as Asians, a colored race, they could not escape from the Caucasian's dominance by the Dutch's cruel and systematic colonial policies. However, suddenly the Japanese, smaller than Caucasians, came to Indonesia and the Dutch Army totally surrendered after only nine days. The Japanese had the same body color and hair color and they beat the white people instantly. Indonesians saw this fact and believed they too can do that. They now had the courage to do so. The Japanese were welcomed by the Indonesians. Let's take a look at a history textbook for the 9th grade students in Indonesia: "The Japanese occupation left great merits to influence our history ...

Filmclip: Formal Independence of Indonesia December 27 1949
In 1945, after the Japanese had been defeated, the Netherlands-Indies was given back to the Netherlands. In august 1945 however, the Indonesian nationalist Soekarno had proclaimed the Republic of Indonesia. This eventually lead to a 4 year long war between the nationalists and the dutch army. In 1949 the dutch became under heavy international pressure and gave independence to Indonesia. This formally happened on december 27 1949. This is also the reason why internationally the Indonesian independence is registrered on that date, and not, as the Indonesians do, on august 17 1945. The short movie shows the following: 1.Indonesian and dutch officials sign the document for the transfer of power in Batavia/Djakarta on december 27 1949. 2.The Round table conference, where it was decided that the dutch would transfer all rights on the Dutch East Indies to Indonesia. 3.Queen Juliana of the Netherlands signs the document that made Indonesia formally independent from the Netherlands, Amsterdam Palace, december 27 1949. 4.The dutch flag goes down on Paleis Koningsplein (now Istana Merdeka) and the Indonesian flag goes up. Batavia/Djakarta, december 27 1949. 5.Parade to celebrate the Indonesian independence with the army, december 27 1949, Djakarta.

Indonesia Independence and Imperial Japanese Army Reenactment
Indonesian Reenactors (often abbreviated as "IDR") is a historical reenactment community. Reenactment itself is way to learn history through interactive sharing by reenact what's done in the past. This is one of our fanmade features two reenacting "The Indonesian freedom fighters and the Imperial Japanese Army". I personally think that both side has great role to ignite independence towards the Dutch Colonial 300 years of occupation. Therfore the Indonesian needed The Japanese's weapon to prepare for the upcoming Dutch Colonial comeback since the Japanese surrender to the Allies. PS: Sorry for the camera-shaking, I was using sandals when shooting this video December 23, 2012 lolxD
