A Neolithic Landscape - The 1st Farmers
For almost 30 years archaeologist & historian James Balme has been walking the ancient landscape close to his home in Cheshire. During that time he has revealed and recovered ancient stone and flint implements and weapons left behind by the people of the Neolithic ( the new stone age ) from almost 8000 years ago. The landscape has provided evidence from the hunter gatherers and the first farmers to reach Britain. The landscape that we see in the countryside today is a legacy that has developed from the earliest farmers who cultivated vast areas of land across the United Kingdom providing grazing for cattle and large areas of open land for the cultivation of the first domestic crops to be grown in the rich and fertile soils of Britain. This was truly the first time that humans had become self sufficient providing food and shelter year on year.

NOCTURNUS - NEOLITHIC (Remastered)
Years of development destroyed in days Begins the genocide A great fire has affected the earth, moon and seas As the earth began to tilt All polar caps had started to melt All the seas began to over flow Ripping the continents apart Neolithic As the sky began to turn dark And the sun faded away All the climates had begun to drop And the ground started to freeze As the land began to freeze All the animals were trapped inside Some animals had moved to the sea Creating a new form of life Stranded on the river's shore fossilized in time As continents ripped apart Lands formed and moved to the sea Rising, soaring, devastating, annihilation

A Virtual Stonehenge Landscape
This short film shows the landscape around Stonehenge as recorded by LIDAR survey (airborne 3D scanning). Millions of measurements were taken across the landscape, and here they have been turned into a 'solid' computer model to show how well the archaeology is recorded by this method.
Prehistoric burial mounds (barrows), the great Cursus (a 2km Neolithic monument), the Bronze Age Avenue which links Stonehenge to the River Avon, and other henges such as Woodhenge and Durrington Walls are all clearly visible.
It is possibly the first time that this data has been shown in this way, at 1:1 with no reduction of data quality to produce a perspective animation.
To find out more technical information about the survey, visit the Stonehenge LIDAR section of the English Heritage website: http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/server/show/nav.00100200300400a001001

The 'Shrine of the Hunters' is an archaeological reconstruction of a level 5 house from Çatalhöyük. It was originally excavated in the 1960's by James Mellaart and aside from a few informational illustrations, has had surprisingly little coverage. One of the most decorated houses ever found at the site, this piece began as the focus of a MSc Dissertation by Grant Cox during the Virtual Pasts course at the University of Southampton and has since evolved into an animation.

Neolithic Nights
This is a project i have been working on called "Neolithic Nights" .
There are more than 350 ancient monuments within a six mile radius of the village, with 150 of them being prehistoric. This project was about documenting these monuments in a visually interesting way that would set them apart from the usual tourist snap. I received a A for this project from my College.

Bryn Celli Ddu - Neolithic Burial Chamber on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales
NOTICE: Music had to been changed, information at end of video is wrong now. Bryn Celli Ddu is a prehistoric site on the Welsh island of Anglesey located near Llanddaniel Fab. Its name is difficult to translate directly but means either 'the mound in the dark grove' or possibly 'the mound in the grove of the deity'. It was plundered in 1699 and archaeologically excavated between 1928 and 1929. During the Neolithic period a stone circle and henge stood at the site. An area of burnt material containing a small human bone from the ear, covered with a flat stone, was recovered. The stones were removed in the early Bronze Age when an archetypal passage grave was built over the top of the centre of the henge. A carved stone with a twisting, serpentine design stood in the burial chamber. It has since been moved to the National Museum of Wales and replaced with a replica standing outside. An earth barrow covering the grave is a twentieth century restoration; the original was probably much bigger. Norman Lockyer, who in 1906 published the first systematic study of megalithic astronomy, had argued that Bryn Celli Ddu marked the summer solstice. This was ridiculed at the time, but recent research by Steve Burrow, curator of Neolithic archaeology at Amgueddfa Cymru (National Museum of Wales) has proven his theory to be true. This alignment links Bryn Celli Ddu to a handful of other sites, including Maes Howe and Newgrange, both of which point to the midwinter solstice. It has also ...
