Asia vs. the West
For two centuries Asians have largely been bystanders in world history, reacting to surges of Western commerce, thought, and power. Now former United Nations Ambassador Kishore Mahbubani -- whom Foreign Policy magazine ranked as one of the top 100 public intellectuals in the world -- declares that era is over and the West must embrace rather than resist this structural shift.

West Papua - The secret war in Asia
The forgotten land of West Papua is under brutal Indonesian military occupation. Its tribal people are being slaughtered, and their unique environment destroyed. But the world is doing nothing to stop it. In 1963, in violation of international law, Indonesia occupied and colonised the West Papuan homeland in the western part of New Guinea. Since that tragic event the West Papuans are asking for a fair referendum about their independence. At least 100.000 indigenous people lost their lives in this secret war.

8/8/2012 -- Earthquake Overview - USA - West Pacific - EU - Asia - South America
It is prudent to ALWAYS have an earthquake plan ready (and practiced) --- just in case a sizable earthquake strikes your area. We are seeing a slight increase over the past few weeks.. after several months of a relative 'quieting off' .. this past weeks multiple 6.0M+ earthquake around the ring of fire, plus the activity on the west coast USA --- also the movement seems to be picking up in north Asia (Ryuku north to Kuril Islands).. Multiple 4.0M and 5.0M along the plate edge north of Australia (New Guinea to Sumatra).. watch for larger movement. South America (chile/argentina near the coast) be aware of the possibility of a larger earthquake in the near term (next 2 weeks).. at least a 6.0M or greater most likely. Europe, be alert of 5.0M activity to the north.. and 6.0M activity to the south over the next two weeks. United States / Canada -- watch the west coast especially.. and the south edge of the north American Craton (colorado, new mexico, texas, oklahoma, arkansas, missouri). East coast -- slight risk for a greater than 4.0M in the next two weeks... watch virginia to south carolina. Conversations With History: Rise of Asia and Decline of West
Conversations host Harry Kreisler welcomes Kishore Mahbubani for a discussion of the changing relationship between the West and Asia. In the interview, he describes the major transformations occurring because of the "march of modernity" made possible by the ideas and global institutions created by the West. He goes on to criticize the West for failing to adapt to the changing balance of power which follows from Asia's rise. Series: Conversations with History [5/2008] [Public Affairs] [Show ID: 14478]

True Warriors - The Courageous Panthera Leo
Wild lions currently exist in Sub-Saharan Africa and in Asia with a critically endangered remnant population in northwest India, having disappeared from North Africa, the Middle East, and Western Asia in historic times. Until the late Pleistocene (about 10000 years ago), the lion was the most widespread large land mammal beside humans. They were found in most of Africa, much of Eurasia from western Europe to India and, in the Americas, from the Yukon to Peru...

TURKEY - ISTANBUL,TAKSIM SQUARE
Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye), known officially as the Republic of Turkey ( Türkiye Cumhuriyeti (help·info)), is a Eurasian country that stretches across the Anatolian peninsula in western Asia and Thrace (Rumelia) in the Balkan region of southeastern Europe. Turkey is bordered by eight countries: Bulgaria to the northwest; Greece to the west; Georgia to the northeast; Armenia, Azerbaijan (the exclave of Nakhichevan) and Iran to the east; and Iraq and Syria to the southeast. To its southwest lie the Mediterranean Sea and Cyprus; to the west, the Aegean Sea and Archipelago; and to the north, the Black Sea. Separating Anatolia and Thrace are the Sea of Marmara and the Turkish Straits (the Bosporus and the Dardanelles). In Western tradition, these bodies of water taken together have been considered the border between Europe and Asia, thereby making Turkey transcontinental. Due to its location astride two continents, Turkey's culture blends Eastern and Western elements. Geopolitically, it has been a dominant regional power for over seven centuries. Today's Turkey is the successor to the Ottoman Empire. Turkey is a democratic, secular, unitary, constitutional republic whose political system was established in 1923 under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, following the fall of the Ottoman Empire in the aftermath of World War I. Since then, Turkey has become increasingly integrated with the West through membership in organizations such as the Council of Europe, NATO, OECD ...

A powerful regional presence in the Eurasian landmass with strong historic, cultural and economic influence in the area between Europe in the west and Central Asia in the east, Russia in the north and the Middle East in the south, Turkey has come to acquire increasing strategic significance. Amazing Hug
Read This THIS WOMAN IN THE VIDEO FOUND THIS LION INJURED IN THE FOREST READY TO DIE. SHE TOOK THE LION WITH HER AND NURSED THE LION BACK TO HEALTH. WHEN THE LION WAS BETTER SHE MADE ARRANGEMENTS WITH A ZOO TO TAKE THE LION AND GIVE IT A NEW AND HAPPY HOME. THIS VIDEO WAS TAKEN WHEN THE WOMAN AFTER SOME TIME WENT TO GO VISIT THE LION TO SEE HOW HE WAS DOING. WATCH THE LION'S REACTION WHEN HE SEES HER. The lion (Panthera leo) is a member of the family Felidae and one of four "big cats" in the genus Panthera. With exceptional large males exceeding 250 kg (550 lb) in weight[2], it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger. Wild lions currently exist in the wild in sub-Saharan Africa and in Asia with a critically endangered remnant population in northwest India, having disappeared from North Africa, the Middle East and western Asia in historic times. Until the late Pleistocene (about 10000 years ago), the lion was the most widespread large land mammal beside humans. They were found in most of Africa, much of Eurasia from western Europe to India and the Bering land bridge and in the Americas from Yukon to Peru. Lions live for approximately 10--14 years in the wild, while in captivity they can live over 20 years. They typically inhabit savanna and grassland, although they may take to bush and forest. Lions are unusually social compared to other cats. A lion pride consists of related females and offspring and a small number of dominant males. Groups of female lions ...

This was filmed during August 2011. This is my interpretation of the fjord landscape in western Norway. Having spent countless days here, I really enjoy even the smallest parts of this landscape. Like hidden streams or dwarfish waterfalls outside of the beaten track that offer a great deal of solitude.
This movie was editing "on the road" and uploaded over 3G network from southeast asia. I have decided to spend the next two years creating a 60min blu-ray/dvd. As a landscape photographer, I have visited some really amazing places over the years, and now I will be revisiting many of them for this movie. It is a full-on project, and as a result I have now sold my apartment, print-studio, car and other belongings.
I thought Beethoven´s Moonlight Sonata would be appropriate, and asked my friend Marika Takeuchi if she could record it in a studio. She made a fantastic version which I love very much. Thank you!

Episode 2 Info:
0:01 - Pai
Pai is actually in Northern Thailand so we got there later than the edit would suggest. However, I wanted to put it into the beginning as it's a fun contrast to the quiet shots afterwards. It is somewhat of a Hippie-Mecca with lots of alternative tourists but also has this festival which seemed very authentic to us.
1:34 - Bangkok (Part 1)
We visited Bangkok twice on our trip. So there's a lot more to come in Episode 5. This time, it's only a handful of impressions from the rainy days.
2:35 - North Thailand (general)
After Bangkok is was raining a week straight. We were going into the mountains in the north-western Region driving on mud roads and fighting the water inside the car as it was leaking through on many spots. Camping is no fun, when it's pouring.
2:48 - Doi Inthanon
Doi Inthanon is the highest mountain in Thailand with 2565 Meters. But the peak is still covered with high trees so you don't really get any spectacular view. However, the fog within the forest up there made a great scenery.
3:00 - Refugee Kids
We accidentally drove in this area where there was a refugee camp streching over many kilometers at the Myanmar boarder. They wouldn't let us in but we could see many kids playing outside on the streets. Later we found a Myanmar refugee which told us alot about the region and why there are all there.
3:48 - Chiang Mai
This was one of the most fun cities we visited with tons of young native people studying there so we had some great nights going out. Luckily, we didn't film any of it.
After Chiang Mai we drove straight to Chiang Khong all the way North East at the Laos boarder to cross it the next morning.

THE ARMY OF LUCK, OR THE GLOBAL PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS
The Maneki Neko (jap., literally Beckoning Cat; aka Lucky Cat, Money Cat) is a common Japanese figurine which is believed to bring luck, attract customers and bring prosperity. The Lucky Cat waves with the raised left paw and holds a historic coin in front of itself with the right one. The Lucky Cat as talisman and selling product is wide-spread in Asia and meanwhile almost all over the world.
Luck is associated here with monetary and material prosperity.
For tourists the Lucky Cat became a kind of pop style Manga character which appears in growing numbers in western private households. As kitschy-petite like exotic souvenir it refers to a certain idea of western lifestyle.
The material element of the installation»The Global Pursuit of Happiness, or: The Army of Luck« is the »Lucky Cats' Matrix«. It contains 520 shiny golden XXL Lucky Cats made of plastics which are arranged in 40 rows and 13 columns on a ramp-like stand made of aluminum (W 8 m, H 3 m, D 2 m).
Visitors experience the Lucky Cats' Matrix as a dot-matrix display which consists of 520 waving paw grid points as its »pixels«. In each cat a servomotor is built in to control the paws move exactly in position and speed.
The visitors are requested imaginarily by the cats to interact as users: "Your concept of happiness is our lucky command. Write it on the keyboard".
Words and sentences up to 40 characters can be put in and are displayed clearly visible with the paws letter by letter as sliding text marquee. So to say, the users »choreograph« the Lucky Cats performance wordwise. Literally it is the »inscription« of an idea of happiness or a wish in the Lucky Cats' bodies by moving their paws forward and backward.
For users, the Lucky Cats become multiplied »avatars« in the world of chance and happiness. But the Lucky Cats are also able to perform spontaneously as well: they can show 25 different salutatory and signalizing gestures as well as mass movements like the »Mexican Wave« or an ecstatic »hyperkinesis«. Every displayed sentence triggers audio events – sound samples of mass or group events, like entertainment shows, political speeches, demonstrations, sport events, parades, accidents, etc. from the beginning of the last century until today. The sounds express auditorily different states of mind, like joy, euphoria, desire, fear, hate, aggression and resignation, astonishment, outrage, pain, panic, desperation and fanatical excitement. The sounds are played in random order and unpredictable combinations. Different contexts and changing settings are emerging.
Are the Lucky Cats »one-armed bandits«? Or is it a gesture in the context of a political or religious movement? Is it a just a happy waving of the fun-loving, hedonistic society? Or is the assembly of Lucky Cats a revolutionary deployment of »wish machines« as »army of luck« or is it just another marketing campaign?
The lined up, gold-reflecting mass of the Lucky Cats in the matrix appears almost as an insubstantially copy-paste-animation. The Lucky Cats in the matrix as an industrial made product become an »ornament of the masses« for repetetive-stererotype and globalized-industrialized ideals. Do we need more and more Lucky Cats to generate more and more prosperity for more and more people?

Kishore Mahbubani: Human Rights in Asia
There was a time when the West could lecture the rest of the world about human rights, but everything changed after Guantanamo, says Mahbubani. The West still remains the gold standard for democracy and human rights, but unless it is honest about torture, it has no right to lecture the rest of the world. Even though yours may have a "greatly enlarged muzzle," We Do Not fix reliability issues with your antelope! We do however, Service and Customize all types of Saiga Firearms (named after the antelope). The Saiga firearm is a variant of the AK family of firearms. The Saiga-12 is a magazine fed, semi-automatic 12 gauge shotgun. 5, 8, 10, 12, and 20 round magazines can be used to supply the ammo, and the Saiga-12 is just as much at home in a tactical atmosphere as it is by the side of the bed for home defense.
