THE CORPORATION [10/23] Boundary Issues
10. We used to regard many areas as too essential to the public good to be commercialized; they were protected by tradition and regulation. Now, everything is becoming fair game in the private taking of the commons -- land, oceans, air, water, education, health, energy and social assistance. Where do we draw the line? Former Gov. Ben Cayetano on Hawaii's Fiscal Mess and Stupid Rail Plan
"When the special interests become too powerful," warns Ben Cayetano, "the voter only has the collective conscience of the people who are in public office." Cayetano was a popular two-term Democratic governor of the state of Hawaii who held office from 1994 to 2002. In 2012, Cayetano became alarmed by what he saw as out-of-control spending and special interests run amok. He came out of retirement and made a failed bid to become the mayor of Honolulu, Hawaii's largest city. Cayetano opposed the city's $5.26 billion rail project, which he says costs too much and will not address Honolulu's traffic problems. The massive system and inevitable cost overruns, he fears, simply piles more debt on a government already straining under unfunded liabilities for public-sector pensions and benefits. "They are going to end up raising taxes," Cayetano told Reason TV. "Or the city will go bankrupt." In a wide-ranging conversation, the 73-year-old Filipino American discusses the Aloha State's fiscal mess, the trouble with Hawaii's one-party government, and why he believes social issues are distracting voters from more pressing economic problems. 5:30 minutes. Energy Public Opinion Poll Results and Discussion
RALEIGH, NC -- North Carolinians overwhelmingly support the increased use of clean energy sources like solar or wind energy, according to poll results released by the NC Sustainable Energy Association. A recent statewide public opinion survey conducted by Fallon Research found that 75.7% of Republicans, 89% of Democrats, and 81.6% of Independents (82.6% overall) said state leaders and elected officials in North Carolina should seek more alternative or renewable energy sources in order to provide consumers and businesses with electricity. As our elected officials are starting their work regarding energy and other important issues, this poll serves as a strong signal of the policies that are important to their constituents. The poll, conducted January 27th-30th of 2013 by Fallon Research, surveyed 803 North Carolina registered voters (landline and cellular phone numbers) on their support or opposition to a number of energy related issues. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.45 percentage points. Fallon Research is a polling and communications firm that has previously worked with numerous groups in North Carolina, including the NC Realtors Association and NC Home Builders Association, in addition to political candidates and independent expenditure groups across 35 US states. This is the third year in a row NCSEA has partnered with Fallon Research for public opinion polling on energy issues.

Teaching English in Korea - Part 1: Dangers and potential problems at public and private schools
(Part 1) This is a long talk about problems you could encounter with a hagwan/private school teaching job in Korea. That was my original intention, but I ended up talking about much more related to job situations at public and private schools. Hope you enjoy the information, and most importantly, I hope it saves someone who ends up in one of these scenarios and knows early enough how to handle it. Watch Part 2 Here: youtu.be

Romney Vs Obama - Same Issues, Same Answers!
Published on Apr 23, 2012 by channel4truth2012 GO RON PAUL! Ron Paul is the only candidate who predicted and warned against the economic crisis, who understood and explained the reasons for it, and who offers a viable solution. Ron Paul is the only candidate who really means it when he says he wants to bring our troops home and scale down our unsustainable and unreasonable empire. Ron Paul is the only candidate who is serious about slashing spending and eliminating taxes. Even though others are now trying to sound like him, there is only one Ron Paul. And there is only one candidate who can beat Obama: Ron Paul. Congressman Ron Paul is the leading advocate for freedom in our nation's capital. As a member of the US House of Representatives, Dr. Paul tirelessly works for limited, constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies. He is known among his congressional colleagues and his constituents for his consistent voting record. Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the "one exception to the Gang of 535″ on Capitol Hill. Ron Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the US Air Force during the 1960s. He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he ...

What Money Can't Buy - the moral limit of markets
Speaker: Professor Michael Sandel Discussants: Stephanie Flanders, Professor Julian Le Grand, Rt Revd Peter Selby Chair: Ann Pettifor Recorded on 23 May 2012 in St Paul's Cathedral, London. Is there something wrong with a world in which everything is for sale? If so, how can we prevent market values from reaching into spheres of life where they don't belong? What are the moral limits of markets? Noted public philosopher and Harvard professor Michael J. Sandel will explore some of these pressing questions with responses from Stephanie Flanders, Professor Julian Le Grand and Bishop Peter Selby. St Paul's Cathedral is delighted to host a discussion on this vital topic within a sacred space in order to explore the intersection between faith, morality and markets and the power that money has in our lives. Questions and comments from the audience will be taken. Michael J. Sandel is the Anne T. and Robert M. Bass Professor of Government at Harvard University, where he has taught political philosophy since 1980. His recent book, Justice: What's the Right Thing to Do? relates the big questions of political philosophy to the most vexing issues of our time. His new book, What Money Can't Buy: The Moral Limits of Markets, has just been published. At Harvard, Sandel's courses include Ethics, Biotechnology, and the Future of Human Nature, Ethics, Economics, and Law, and Globalization and Its Critics. Chabot Censors Town Hall - Police Seize Cameras
It is not supposed to happen in America where we value free speech and proudly revel in our history of men and women standing up and speaking to their elected representatives. But...once again, just last night, as they did in June, Congressman Steve Chabot, his staff and security team made sure that there could be no genuine human interaction or spoken question from the audience or any recorded documentation of what was said. And this occurred in a public meeting, in a public place, conducted by a public official, who while speaking to the public refused over 100 people who disagreed with him the opportunity to speak. And he had the police there to physically enforce his own private rules for public discourse. Last night it was supposed 'security reasons" that they again not only banned citizen speech, but the photographing and filming of the Congressman speaking as well. Chabot's security team enlisted the help of the on-duty Cincinnati Police (car # 05313) to enforce this policy with the threat of arrest and the actual confiscation of two video cameras until the conclusion of the meeting. Dismal exercises such as this must leave his constituents bewildered, thinking they had stumbled into an anti-democratic nightmare where authorities dictate appropriate speech in public places and seize personal property at the request of the elected officials. These policies simply cannot stand legal scrutiny nor the smell test of any citizen interested in an honest and open ...
