Alfred "Butch" Beard, Jr. (born May 5, 1947) is a former National Basketball Association player and coach. He was the head coach at Morgan State University until he stepped down in March 2006. Butch Beard played college basketball at the University of Louisville. Beard played high school basketball at Breckinridge County High School where, as a junior, he led the Bearcats to the 1964 state championship game losing to a Wes Unseld-led Louisville Seneca team. The following year, Beard led the Bearcats back to the title game winning the 1965 state championship. Additionally, Beard was named the 1965 Kentucky Mr. Basketball.
Beard was selected by the Dallas Chaparrals in the 1969 ABA Draft and by the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the 1969 NBA Draft. Beard played nine seasons (1969–1970; 1971–1979) with five teams: the Atlanta Hawks, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Seattle SuperSonics, the Golden State Warriors, and the New York Knicks. He scored 5,622 career points and represented Cleveland in the 1972 NBA All-Star Game. He later served as head coach of the New Jersey Nets from 1994-1996. He was also color analyst for New York Knicks games on MSG Network during the 1980s.
Possibly Butch Beard's best game ever, considering that his career-high in a regular season game is just right there (32, with a couple of 29 and 30 games as well). Beard, who was a one-time all-star right after serving in the Army, uses his considerable size for a point guard to penetrate and shoot over smaller guards. A cool performance by a guy I admittedly knew mostly as the head coach of the Nets (the incident of Derrick Coleman paying a season's share of fines for not obliging to Beard's dress code so he wouldn't have to pay each particular fine comes to mind first). May 4, 1975.

NBA legend Butch Beard invites us into his home and gives us a look into his rich and storied life in basketball. These days, the former NBA Champion, All Star, and coach (with the Knicks, Nets, and Warriors, in the NCAA with Morgan State and Howard University) is rehabilitating from hip replacement surgery. Years of pounding on the hardwood can take its toll, but Butch is determined to get his body back in shape through a tough rehab program. As always see more on our website at: www.presspasstv.com

We are very happy to be working with our friends again. This song, the eighth from House Shoes' debut, 'Let It Go', is an amazing piece of word-play and slapping drums from this combo featuring CO$$ on the mic. We flew out to L.A. for a week with a camera and got to walk around in Santa Monica with these two for an afternoon. Pure. Underground. Originals. One of my favorite days, walking backwards with Hiro Tanaka. We are releasing an alternate Beat Tape Version of this album with entirely re-cut instrumentals and exclusives only available on limited cassette release (200). Out June 4th. Peace to Tres Records for supporting original artists. - Butch Artist: House Shoes ft. CO$$ Title: "Keep On" Album: "Let It Go" Label: Tres Records (http://tinyurl.com/letitgooncdandvinyl ) Dir...

One of the world's freshest talents with a guitar, Marcus King, talks Gibsons, recording multiple amps and wearing a giant fake beard on stage with Warren Haynes. 20 year-old Marcus King is a must-hear guitarist who's latest album with The Marcus King Band features Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes, who also produced it. If you're a fan of Gov't Mule, Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Allman Brothers Band, and any other fine blues/rock/soul bands then check out this interview and have a listen to the new Marcus King Band album. We caught up with the band at their October show at London's The Blues Kitchen - Shoreditch and lent Marcus a SlideRIG-CD compressor pedal for the set. The band are incredible and Marcus's guitar playing is out of this world! Be sure to head out to a Marcus King Band conce...

February 25, 1977, New York Knicks at New Orleans Jazz highlights focusing mostly on Pete Maravich. 5:39 for the beginning of the game's highlights, 28:22 for the start of the 2nd half. partial box score: http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/197702250NOJ.html The ultimate Pistol Pete performance! Maravich had both guns blazing from the start as he was scoring in numerous ways and just couldn't be contained. If I'm not mistaken, he started the game going 15-20 from the field, and ended it on 8-12. Just one of the greatest scoring displays in NBA history. To top if off, he was also playmaking and dishing dimes (all 5 of them in the 2nd quarter), he provided some rebounding and was really hustling out there, actually playing some nice D. With a 3-point line his points total would be...
