Lyrical Abstraction J.Daniels-Hall-Display.m4v
In January of 2012 my art changed dramatically. I didn't know why I felt that I needed to start painting like this - it just needed to be. In February I was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma stage 2 lung cancer. I underwent lung surgery in April. I have decided against standard medical treatments and instead I have begun a natural course of therapy and my art is probably the biggest part of it. I have never enjoyed painting as much as I do now - this is what is inside of me and what insists on being brought forth. I have always been a realist painter and also a perfectionist. I don't have the time or desire to do that now. I paint what I want and what I feel. I love color, texture and movement. I am IN the paintings now as I work - and I don't think there is a better place to be. The style of this type of painting is called Lyrical Abstraction. A good explanation by Michael Cook, artist and critic, of this unique form of abstraction can be found at www.artinsight.com "The art of lyrical abstraction allows us to ponder meanings and emotions in ways that mere stripes of color, for instance, don't. Lyrical abstraction has something to say, and it often takes on the dynamics of psychological exploration. It may or may not include suggestions or representations of imagery from the natural world. The paintings may vary widely in visual effect, but all share a similar intent: evoking feelings of essence—and that all-important connection to higher, more esoteric worlds." (Michael Cook)

Seeker of Hope & Lyrical Abstraction
Born in a time of open economy and increasing prosperity in China, Jia Aili represents a young generation worried about losing age old traditions and values in a fast evolving world, questioning the true meaning of life. The solitary figures in his epic-scale and visually stunning works seem to be searching for hope amidst the ruins of modern civilisation. In the midst of his desolate landscapes, there exists a yearning and hope for a possibility of redemption and saving. Seeker of Hope: Works by Jia Aili will showcase Jia's works ranging from monumental oil paintings and installations, to delicate paper works. The exhibition runs till 23 September at the Singapore Art Museum. For more information, please visit www.singaporeartmuseum.sg Lyrical Abstraction: Works by Jeremy Sharma & Yeo Shih Yun is a parallel exhibition held in conjunction with Seeker of Hope: Works by Jia Aili. In this exhibition, the works of two young Singaporean painters with very different painting styles will be showcased -- Jeremy Sharma with oil on metal panels and Yeo Shih Yun with contemporary ink and new media. Both the young Singaporean artists demonstrate creativity and the ability to shape seemingly conventional art techniques into witty and ironic new forms of 'painting'. The exhibition runs till 23 September at the Singapore Art Museum. For more information, please visit www.singaporeartmuseum.sg

www.coreybarksdale.com www.coreybarksdale.com Corey Barksdale is a native of Nashville, Tennessee. He was born into a family of artists and was introduced himself to art at an early age. Educated at the Atlanta College of Art, Barksdale graduated with a Bachelors degree in Fine Art in 1994. This artist's talent has provided him with opportunities to paint works that went on to be used as book covers, magazines, and posters. Today, Barksdale continues to hone in on his craft. He aspires to paint murals and is available for commission work in this respect. Visiting his website is a great way to view the diversity of his work. Here you will see original works of art that are both colorful and dynamic. There are works for sell on this site as well. Abstract art uses a visual language of form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. Western art had been, from the Renaissance up to the middle of the 19th century, underpinned by the logic of perspective and an attempt to reproduce an illusion of visible reality. The arts of cultures other than the European had become accessible and showed alternative ways of describing visual experience to the artist. By the end of the 19th century many artists felt a need to create a new kind of art which would encompass the fundamental changes taking place in technology, science and philosophy. The sources from which individual artists drew their theoretical ...

Learn How to Paint Abstract Painting with Acrylics by Peter Dranitsin
abstractartlesson.com Learn How to Paint Abstract Painting with Acrylics by Peter Dranitsin at petesoriginalart.com ORIGINAL ART IS NECESSARY FOR GOOD TASTE You've been a collector of posters and prints for a long time. Now you are ready to dive into the world of original art. Scary, isn't it? How you go about doing it will make all the difference, never fear. Since nearly the whole artistic world is online, the surest and safest way to begin your research on what you want to purchase is to browse online galleries. Any artist worth clicking on will have a well-set-up online gallery, explanations of himself and his artistic vision on the very first page. You read about the artist's background and methods, seeing for yourself whether you agree with his techniques and finished results. You surf the Web some more, and come back to a few favorite sites. Then, you consider your price outline and the purposes of buying original art: is it to be for your personal space in your home, the common area in your home, your office where colleagues will no doubt see it and learn about your taste from your choice or, more difficult perhaps than these options, is it to be a gift for a family member, colleague or institution? Will your choice reflect your intimate knowledge of the happy receiver of your largesse? Take a deep breath, now. It's not going to be insurmountable! Like any other sort of decision, you make a list consisting of pluses and minuses. What is suitable for your study at ...

Steve Reich, Vermont Counterpoint, Adolph Gottlieb
Steve Reich, Vermont Counterpoint, 1982, Ransom Wilson, Solisti New York. Paintings by Adolph Gottlieb 1903-1974). Adolph Gottlieb, recognized as one of the first color field painters and a pioneer of Lyrical Abstraction. His works evoke a universality and a search into the dimensions of space. "The surprise in a painting is not the surprise of discovering some kind of a story or myth, it's the surprise of finding a clear statement about something that you felt and then to see it, to see this feeling become materialized in paint, then it really exists. And until it is materialized, it's not really certain whether this really exists or not. So in a way, I suppose, what I have been doing with my painting is making manifest certain feelings that I have. And also ideas in their intangible form. Then I know that I am actually alive and this is not all a figment of some imagination."...Adolph Gottlieb...from an interview conducted by Dorothy Seckler In New York October 25, 1967.

Opera Gallery Budapest Exhibition by Patrizia Gucci "Bellezza Toscana"
The pictures exhibited by Patrizia Gucci at Opera Gallery in Budapest show a refined and intellectual painting. Her landscapes are neither realistic, nor entirely abstract. Nature is only a starting point and it is transformed towards a lyrical abstraction with a soft metaphysical undertone. The colours of Patrizia Guccis paintings dont follow those of the real world, their origin is not in the seen scenery. The colours of Patrizia Gucci come, first of all, from the dreamside of her being, and only in a second way, their origin is the reality. As Heidegger says, the essence of art is the poetical and I dont have any reason to decline this assertion what Patrizia Gucci makes is art in its entire sense. I wrote above, that beyond their firstly aesthetical, poetical aspect, Patrizia Guccis landscapes have also a secondary, metaphysical meaning. What could that be? It could be the pursuit to find the answer to the following question: Wouldnt it be better to live our life, as much as we can, in a poetical way? Who knows?... Havadi Nagy István (Professor of Aesthetics)

George Mathieu Lyrical Abstraction is a French style of abstract painting current in the 1945 -1960. Very close to Art Informel, presents the European equivalent to Abstract Expressionism. The name Tachisme is sometimes used to describe the style. In 1947 the painter Georges Mathieu organized the exhibition "Abstraction lyrique" in Paris. The term that Mathieu chose for the exhibition, pointing clearly to the gap separating "cold" geometric abstraction from a "hot" organic and lyrical form of abstraction. Works by Wols, Hartung and Riopelle were exhibited.

[3 QUESTIONS WITH] Jeremy Sharma Part 1: Why black and white?
Kurosawa by Jeremy Sharma is a special art piece commissioned by SAM as part of the exhibition, Lyrical Abstraction: Works by Jeremy Sharma & Yeo Shih Yun. The oil on metal panel abstract installation is made up of black and white washes achieved by paint dripping down on aluminum panels at various speeds. Q: Why black and white? Jeremy Sharma: This work is all about contrast. It is about light and dark, positive and negative and I wanted to emphasize the sensation of black on white.
