Mike Clark - TN 1st US House District Campaign Announcement April 17, 2010
ELIZABETHTON - MIke Clark officially announces on April 17, 2010 that he is a Democratic primary candidate for the Tennessee 1st US House District seat in Washington, DC with his kick-off campaign speech and Carter County Democrats hotdog cook-off event at the downtown Covered Bridge Park. Clark noted early within his speech that the last Democrat elected to represent the Tennessee 1st US House District was Carter County native Robert L. Taylor, who served within the US House of Representatives from 1879 to 1881. Earlier Democrats representing the Tennessee 1st US House District included US Representatives Andrew Jackson (1796-1797, at large) and Andrew Johnson (1843-1853, 1st), each who represented this area of Northeast Tennessee and would later during their individual politically histories served as President of the United States of America. Elizabethton is the county seat of Carter County, Tennessee, United States. Elizabethton is the historical site both of the first independent American government located west of both the Eastern Continental Divide and the original thirteen British colonies known as the Watauga Association (1772). Elizabethton is also the historical site of the Transylvania Purchase (1775), and a major historic muster site for the Battle of Kings Mountain (1780).

Mike Clark - "The Politics of No" April 22, 2010
ELIZABETHTON - Democratic Tennessee 1st US House District candidate Mike Clark was one of many 2010 primary candidates of all political levels attending the April 22, 2010 "Meet the Candidates" timed forum sponsored by the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce at TA Dugger Junior High School, but Clark was notably the only candidate to address "The Politics of No" confronting all residents across the Tennessee 1st Congressional District. Incumbent US Rep. Phil "Dr. No" Roe (R-Johnson City) was himself represented at the candidates' forum in Elizabethton by John A. Teague. Earlier Democrats representing the Tennessee 1st US House District have included US Representatives Andrew Jackson (1796-1797, at large) and Andrew Johnson (1843-1853, 1st), each who represented this area of Northeast Tennessee and would later during their individual politically histories serve as President of the United States of America. Elizabethton is the county seat of Carter County, Tennessee, United States.[3] Elizabethton is the historical site both of the first independent American government located west of both the Eastern Continental Divide and the original thirteen British colonies known as the Watauga Association (1772).
