Ancient European and Middle Eastern Psychedelic drug use - An Interview with Alan Piper (excerpt)
What evidence is there of Amanita muscaria mushroom and other drug use in Afghanistan? Did the Sufi employ psychoactive substances? What are the Moroccan goat men? Is there a possible link between intoxicating sacramental use of milk and Mohammed's landmark visionary experience through the seven heavens? How does the new evidence of prehistoric mushroom use in Europe affect current academic arguments against such use? Is there a link to the word 'marihuana' and the Chinese language? My guest is the British independent scholar Alan Piper - an expert on psychoactive substances in ancient religions. In this two part series we'll be discussing Zoroastrianism, Sufism, Amanita muscaria - the fly-agaric mushroom, intoxicating milk and meat, new evidence of prehistoric mushroom use in Europe, the origins of the word "marihuana," and much more. [Photo of Alan Piper and Prof. Carl AP Ruck at Cuenca, Spain, 2008] Alan Piper was born in 1953 and like many others of his generation encountered psychedelic culture in his teenage years. His father undertook psychloytic therapy in the 1950s and so Alan grew up with the likes of Aldous Huxley and Henri Michaux on the family bookshelves, which were a point of reference for him in his own encounters with the psychedelic experience. Again, like many others of his generation, he moved away from psychedelics and into an exploration of eastern religions and hermetic philosophies, looking for a context for his entheogenic experiences. Laid off ...

Sebastian (1968) Psychedelic party sequence LSD acid Dirk Bogarde 60's
Psychedelic drug induced party sequence from the 1968 UK film "Sebastian" A British mathematician (Dirk Bogarde), working on code decryption, unexpectedly falls in love with another decrypter (Susannah York). An extremely stylish, sophisticated romp that was slyly coy at the time, and simply faboulous when viewed today. Jerry Goldsmith provides noticeable musical accompaniment... and keep an eye out for Canadian actor Donald Sutherland in a bit as an American.

89,357 Views - The hillarious but highly Rocking Greenhouse Effect Videos from their "Final band meeting" Of November 1992 at El Segundo California's Jet City Sound Studio have been spliced into other G.e clips. Four Songs were shot that night; Three Versions of "White Black Thang', Search and Destroy, Two Versions (Or more) of the Beatles cover version of "Please Please me", ...and ofcourse several for the somewhat uptemp G.e. Rocker "Manipulation". Clark Hagins calls the Video for "Manipulation" his favourite; "We look like we're havin' fun there,..we look silly but one can tell that when we played live - We Rocked,..and we rocked hard,...we were a weird unusual band,..to say the least." Greenhouse Effect exploded in notoriety in 2007 with some of Google Videos Most watched clips World Wide; "Our drummer died in 1999 in a bizarre Gardening accident (Laughs)" says Clark Haggins. Ofcourse Hagins is only kidding as he is referring to hillarious Danish Drummer Palle Carlson , the Denmark Drummer who resembles Spinal Tap's first percussionist in old 1965 black and white clips. "Greenhouse Effect was a World sensation for quite a long time,..we attracted alot of attention and 50,000 Twitter Followers,...I never wanted all the internet fun to end,...but I do see things now finally slowing down in 2010" says Clark Hagins. "We only get about two Million looks a day now,...thats pathetic compared to the kind of business we used to do in 2008." - There are ofcourse no plans for Rock's most watched band to reassemble any time soon and Hagins sees the 1992 demise of the band as just another bizarre mistake from his life's journey; "We were around for like 7 years,...Me and Flipper (Phil Keegan Guitarist) had planned to be the biggest Rock Stars in the musical universe - but it never happened,... ,...until I was like 50 years old (Laughs) " says Haggins. "We watched all those music industry bands like Nirvana and Green Day hit it big while we did things like work in cubes and clean Pools,..its just a damn shame" says Higgins. Hagins says that the tired band eventually grew 'into futility' by late 92' ; "We had all these Great songs and a great live show but we made enemies with all of the biggest wigs in Hollyweird ...there was no way I was ever gonna kiss their arsses - I would clean Swimming Pools before I would do that (Laughs)." Hagins calls the Video for "Manipulation" the absolute Last Hurrah for G.E. ; "The End of the video is hella fucking cool - it looks like Ted is trying to fuck me in the ass and then Palle just picks his nose,.. its pure Lame Rock n roll the way you love it,..it's fuckin' hella cool " ================== 148,037 Views - "Ripping Reason" Comes roaring Out of the speakers with sheer Psychedelic Power !! IRIE BOB IS THE Pixies-Like 60's Stooges Like track that appears as the second song on the 1995 "Fountain Weird CD" available at itunes and CD Baby. ENTER THE VOID trailer
Trailer for new Gaspar Noe film Enter the Void
Directed by Gaspar Noe; Starring Paz de la Huerta, Nathaniel Brown, Cyril Roy and Olly Alexander.
ENTER THE VOID is the highly anticipated new film from Gaspar Noé (I STAND ALONE, IRREVERSIBLE), the former enfant terrible of French Cinema. A filmmaker of a singular passion and cinematic vision that continues to challenge us, Noé is one of the most exciting directors working today. The provocative director’s latest work is a visually arresting and audacious ‘psychedelic melodrama’ of familial ties, inner consciousness and the circle of life played out against the neon-soaked backdrop of Tokyo’s nightscape of strip bars, clubs, and seedy hangouts, all lit up like a pinball machine.
Oscar (Nathaniel Brown) and his sister Linda (Paz de la Huerta) are recent arrivals in Tokyo. Oscar’s a small-time drug dealer, and Linda works as a nightclub stripper. One night, Oscar is caught up in a police bust and shot. As he lies dying, his spirit, faithful to the promise he made his sister as a child - that he would never leave her - refuses to abandon the world of the living. His spirit hovers over the city, wandering the streets and passing through the boundaries of various apartments, nightclubs and hotel rooms. His visions grow evermore nightmarish and distorted as past, present and future merge in a hallucinatory maelstrom.
ENTER THE VOID is the ultimate head-trip, a distinctive and highly original film that fully immerses the audience into the sensory world and experiences of its characters, straight into the void between life and death. Lauded as a work of Pure Cinema, ENTER THE VOID is Noé’s most mature and fully realised work to date.

How Psychedelics Helped Invent The Internet? REASON TV interviews Jason Silva
REASON TV interview:
"Taking a page from Timothy Leary, the folks behind the Whole Earth Catalog, Ray Kurzweil, and other visionaries, Silva's work looks at the ways in technological progress is allowing humans to direct their own evolution. And the ways in which prohibitionists of all stripes push back on new ways of being human."
"Etymologically speaking, after all, computers are literally psychedelic; that is, they manifest the mind."
-Erik Davies.
"People have always sort of been scared of new technologies," says Silva. "But in the end we assimilate them and they improve the quality of our lives."
Interview by Reason's Zach Weissmueller. Shot and edited by Sharif Matar. About 11 minutes long."

Timothy Leary on the Psychedelic Experience Pt 1/4
Timothy Francis Leary was an American writer, psychologist, futurist, and advocate of psychedelic drug research and use, and one of the first people whose remains have been sent into space. An icon of 1960s counterculture, Leary is most famous as a proponent of the therapeutic and spiritual benefits of LSD. He coined and popularized the catch phrase "Turn on, tune in, drop out."
