River Mersey 1983 - Mv Royal Iris(1951), Mv Overchurch, Manx Maid
This is pure nostalgia. A video I took on the Mersey ferry Overchurch from Seacombe to Liverpool in 1983. The old Royal Iris comes into Seacombe ahead of the Overchurch, so quite a good bit of rare video of her. When we approach Liverpool, the Manx maid can be seen embarking passengers. Both landing stages look a bit different than they do now. The morning started off hazey but turned into a very warm sunny day.

Pier Head, Liverpool Buses and the River Mersey, 1967
Coming across some old 8mm film this is an attempt to record it to video from the movie screen.
The quality is not too good, but it gives an impression of the scene at the Liverpool Pier Head in 1967, when it was the main terminus for the Liverpool Corporation buses and the landing stage was still in use for the trans-Atlantic liners..

The River Mersey - A natural boundary
Join Archaeologist & Historian James Balme as he pays a visit to the River Mersey at Woolston near Warrington to take a look at the river today and how it has provided a natural boundary for many thousands of years.
James takes a look at the Thelwall viaduct built to carry traffic along the busy M6 motorway and an important crossing of the Mersey for millions of vehicles every year.
James also takes a look at Woolston Weir and explains how the river has become a haven for wildlife over the past 20 years or so. The river is now clean and supports a multitude of fish species including salmon who swim upstream every year to spawn ..... Enjoy panoramic views of the river in this delightful film shot in early spring 2009.

Flooding on the River Mersey
After a day of very heavy rain, with a month's worth falling in just a few hours, river levels around the North-West of England were raised, including the River Mersey in South Manchester.
This video documents the River Mersey at three places.
At Ford Lane, near Didsbury Golf Course. the road was completely innundated, and had been cordoned off.
At Northenden, there is usually a weir at the place where I was filming, but this has been covered by the rising water.
At Cheadle/Parrs Wood, the area around the bridge was under a Flood Warning alert. The river was fast flowing, but as at 10pm, the river here was contained within its banks.
The video was filmed between 9pm and 10pm on 6th July 2012. The light levels can be a bit low due to the onset or darkness. The water levels were still rising until about midnight.

Rafting the Mersey River - First Drop
The Mersey River offers challenging rapids over a ninety-minute section of water located around 85 kilometres south of Devonport. A great river to raft on the way to Cradle Mountain, the Mersey allows groups to try their hand at steering their own raft down the course.
The Mersey River is Hydro-released water, which means it is the most reliable white-water course in the state.

River Mersey Tidal Bore - May 2011
One of the less famous of the UK tidal bores but impressive nonetheless.
I cycled down on the Transpennine trail and this vantage point is right on the route.
I was hanging around for ages and was about to leave (sometimes the bore never arrives at all) on my bike when in the distance I saw it approaching.

The idea was to do some fishing in the river Mersey in Liverpool, unfortunately the weather turned with a strong westerly wind. No chance fishing so went playing in my Stealth Pro Fisha 575 instead....
