Tehran builds 2nd largest city tunnel in the world
The biggest and most expensive tunnel construction project in Iran. The largest tunnel project connecting Tehran's east and west will be inaugurated in a matter of days. A multi faceted project was started by Tehran municipality in March 2011 to a build the Niyayesh tunnel, the biggest and the most expensive tunnel construction project in Iran, with an additional internal connection of Tehran's east and south. The main aim of this massive project is to reduce traffic in the capital. The Niayesh tunnel will be inaugurated on Saturday January 16th. The latest and advanced cement equipment has been used in this project, with a new technology known as self compact concrete (SCC) which has interlocking steel beams inside. In addition the Niyaesh Tunnel has been built using 2012 Permanent International Association of Road Congresses (PIARC) standards, considered to be the most advanced method by the World Road Association . All phases of this project are being carried out by Iranian engineers, technicians, scientists and architects. The tunnel that is just over 10 kms in length, also has 2 ramps twenty-four meters each, is becoming recognized worldwide. As officials have explained this massive tunnel project has cost around one billion dollars. Tehran Conference belies US Syria claims: Webster Tarpley
An Iranian lawmaker says the United States seeks to downplay Iran's crucial role in resolving the Syrian crisis. Mohammad Saleh Jokar made the remark in response to the US reaction to Iran's holding of a recent consultative meeting on Syria. Iran hosted the day-long meeting on Thursday, August 7 to discuss the Syrian unrest. The gathering was attended by officials and representatives from nearly 30 countries. The United States dismissed the importance of the conference and criticized the Islamic Republic for supporting the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says Qaher-313 demonstrates Tehran's growing self-reliance in military technology field. Iran has unveiled its newest combat jet, a domestically manufactured fighter-bomber that military officials claim can evade radar. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a ceremony broadcast on state TV that building the Qaher-313, or Dominant-313, shows Iran's will to "conquer scientific peaks". The Qaher is one of several aircraft designs rolled out by the Iranian military since 2007. Tehran has repeatedly claimed to have developed advanced military technologies in recent years but its claims cannot be independently verified because the country does not release technical details of its arsenals. The country launched a self-sufficiency military programme in the 1980s to compensate for a Western weapons embargo that banned export of military technology and equipment to Iran. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armoured personnel carriers, missiles, torpedoes, drones and fighter planes. "Qaher-313 is a fully indigenous aircraft designed and built by our aerospace experts. This is a radar-evading plane that can fly at low altitude, carry weapons, engage enemy aircrafts and land at short airstrips," Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi said. It was animated frame by frame using Flash and After Effects and was finished during my third year of studying at the Institute of Animation in Ludwigsburg Germany. The SoundWorks Collection talks with Sound Supervisor and Sound Designer Erik Aadahl to discuss the sound of Director Ben Affleck's Argo.
In 1979, during the Iranian Revolution, Islamic militants take over the U.S. embassy in Tehran and hold 52 Americans hostage. Six other Americans escape and hide in the Canadian ambassador's home. The Central Intelligence Agency and its specialist Tony Mendez (Affleck) put together a plan to help the six Americans escape Iran. With the cover of the 6 Americans being location finders for a movie called Argo, Tony must get the hostages to play the part of the Canadian movie makers, so they can escape Teheran.

Tehran says it's working with New Delhi to find ways to settle payments for Iranian oil. Currently about half of India's payments are made in Euros, but the latest EU sanctions ban all dealings with Iranian banks. Iran's been under consistent pressure over its nuclear programme, amid fears it might be after an atomic bomb. On top of the EU oil embargo, financial and trade sanctions, 19 Iranian TV and radio stations were taken off air in Europe. But energy-hungry Asian countries refuse to comply with the European restrictions, with India saying it won't reduce the amount of oil it buys from Iran.
