CSS Neuse Ironclad GunBoat Civil War
CSS Neuse Ironclad GunBoat Civil War An ironclad was a steam-propelled warship in the early part of the second half of the 19th century, protected by iron or steel armor plates.[1] The ironclad was developed as a result of the vulnerability of wooden warships to explosive or incendiary shells. The first ironclad battleship, La Gloire, was launched by the French Navy in November 1859.[2] The British Admiralty had been considering armored warships since 1856 and prepared a draft design for an armored corvette in 1857; however, in early 1859 the Royal Navy started building two iron-hulled armored frigates, and by 1861 had made the decision to move to an all-armored battle fleet. After the first clashes of ironclads (both with wooden ships and with one another) took place during the American Civil War, it became clear that the ironclad had replaced the unarmored ship of the line as the most powerful warship afloat. This type of ship would come to be very successful in the American Civil War.[3] Ironclads were designed for several roles, including as high seas battleships, coastal defense ships, and long-range cruisers. The rapid evolution of warship design in the late 19th century transformed the ironclad from a wooden-hulled vessel that carried sails to supplement its steam engines into the steel-built, turreted battleships and cruisers familiar in the 20th century. This change was pushed forward by the development of heavier naval guns (the ironclads of the 1880s carried ...

Salvage of the Gunboat Cairo - Struggle for Vicksburg DVD - Civil War historic Film
This historic film is a bonus feature on the Struggle for Vicksburg DVD and is available on location and from www.finleyholiday.com. This historic film documents the salvage of the Civil War Gunboat Cairo, the first warship ever sunk by an electrically detonated torpedo. The Union gunboat was raised 100 years after it was sunk from the Mississippi River in 1963. The full-featured Struggle for Vicksburg DVD tours Vicksburg National Military Park today and recounts the dramatic siege for Vicksburg during the Civil War in 1863.

Frank Kamer Navy Gun Boat World War II Veteran
Frank was doing escort duty for the USS Franklin aircraft carrier at Okinawa when the Kamikazes came in. The Franklin was hit a few times and seamen were blown off the ship, full of oil. Frank's boat picked up the bodies, all 50 were dead and took their dog tags and had to bury the dead at sea.

'Gunboat 81'
'Machine Gun Boat 81' Filmed and edited in 24 hrs. This was supposed to be a boring piece to camera talking about a case study of a media company. I decided to make it interesting by going along on the shoot and filming onboard a friends lovingly restored WWII 'Gunboat 81'. See if you can spot anyone remotely famous, and I don't mean me, I think I'll stick to staying behind the camera from now on!

Let's Play Advance Wars Days of Ruin - P35 - Gunboats Ahoy!
C11 - A Storm Brews / Storm CloudsDespite issues with the Hyphy Movement, the San Francisco Bay Area residents who prove that it doesn't deserve to be called the "Yay Area", the shallow girls who would say "wanna suck my pee" just to mock me, and the Oakland rioters, I decide to do a Let's Play for Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. There are 3 other games that I want to LP at some point, but since MageKnight404 is LPing DoR, I thought I'd do the same. Mainly to show off my micro skills and show how microing is done. If anybody feels offended by me talking about that, I apologize. I'm just bugged by the mistakes people keep making. I'm not by any means perfect, but it doesn't help that, according to a reliable source at least, the game's apparent best player has bad microing, certainly for his (supposed) skill level. I do know that like any elitist, he gets arrogant too--and like I said to SlimKirby, better unskilled than arrogant. As it turns out, the shelter, while a good idea indeed, is still not sufficient for taking care of our problems--fine by us, since we hear rumors of a war somehow happening without regard to the disaster. Sure enough, we get swallowed into it by having to defend a group of NPC units who don't really need the help, allowing us to just worry about our Gunboats, which are inexpensive sea units that can ferry Infantry and Mechs and do decent damage to ships but have bad defense and only 1 round of ammo each. Our reward for defending the NPC units which we ...

Star Wars Galaxies - Blacksun Vigo Gunboat- HD
This is a tribute video to the Blacksun AEG-77 Vigo Gunboat. While it's the middle man out of all 3 gunboats, the AEG-77 makes up for it in style! With it's massive engines, the huge "tusk" like things and the wide skirts, this gunboat is for anyone who likes to take a trip down the wilder side of life! ;D The song is Intro by XX. (Thedeep focus remix) -- This movie was quite the project, while it didn't come out as I had first invisioned (I had hoped for combat footage) it has certainly come out as I had hoped - Decent! :) Traynu~

Alana Inman: Principal Assistant for Boards and Commissions: Wilson's Creek Image Collection
Hi, my name is Alana Inman and I am the principal Assistance for Boards and Commissions at the Missouri State Archives. One of my favorite Missouri treasures is the collection of Civil War images at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield.
In a nutshell, my job consists of coordinating external relations for the Archives. So I have the chance to come into contact with records keepers from around the state who introduce me to Missouri treasures of which I was never aware all the time. One of the collections in the state that I by far love the best is the Civil War images at Wilson’s Creek. The Civil War was the first war that was recorded in photographs. This meant people could see it away from the battlefield, civilians could see it and we can still see it today.
This collection is filled with images of both Union and Confederate soldiers and guerillas. Most are of individuals posed in the traditional portrait style that was used so soldiers could send a photograph home to loved ones. But there are also period images that depict the era on a larger scale like those that demonstrate the use of gunboats on the river and give us the glimpse of women, slaves, and even families.
I particularly enjoy the tin type and daguerreotype type images of the guerillas. You can really see when you look at them how they had a flamboyant, almost swaggering personality and their attire and just the attitude they have in their images.
Anyone that is going to visit Wilson’s Creek Battlefield really should stop here at the Civil War Museum first because there’s just something about seeing the actual images of the soldiers, the swords that they fought with, the rifles that they fired that really makes you able to picture them out there on that battlefield and image what they lived through. And that’s why this collection is my Missouri treasure.

Hong Kong, Macau & Manila ~ 1981
In 1981 what was then known as Communist China was a completely closed off country, rather similar to North Korea is today. This was to try & stop its people from fleeing to the British colony of Hong Kong or Macau which was then a Portuguese colony. Right beside the large jade-windowed mansion where the woman who owned Tiger Balm, the famous all-purpose ointment, lived with her two small dogs, was one of the many squatter shanty camps. These were occupied by those who had fled China. There are images of the almost No Man's Land which buffered Mainland China from Hong Kong's New Territories. This can be seen as a flat valley with some housing, a river & ponds. There is also a wide section of fresh turned earth set with steel pole in concrete bases. This was the actual border. In Macau there was a gunboat moored in the middle of the Pearl River which was part of its border. There was also a yellow border station & armed soldiers, hiding under trees along the desolate looking beach.
At a beach at Repulse Bay, HK, can be seen two enormous concrete mansions built by a wealthy herb doctor at the behest of his fortune teller. These actions were meant to ensure his continued health & good fortune & were never lived in after completion. Land at Repulse Bay would cost a fortune, too. The fortune teller must, also, have had shares in a concrete company.
Even in 1981, terrorism was a real threat & the hotel we stayed at, in Manila had its very busy foyer with its restaurants & bars, bombed by terrorists, nine months before. Security was very tight for that era & everyone seeking entry to the foyer was searched. The pool area was, also, very discretely patrolled by guards carrying submachine guns. Most of the photos taken in Manila are of the ruined Fort Santiago, its fearless beggars, a monument & grave of 600 Manila Filipinos murdered in a mass drowning, by Japanese forces during WWII. Also, the American WWII War Cemetery with its 17,500 graves & 36,000 names of those US soldiers MIA, engraved on the walls of an enormous horseshoe shaped monument.
