The CMU Board of Trustees named Dr. Suresh as the university's ninth president, succeeding Dr. Jared L. Cohon. Dr. Cohon, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Ray Lane, and Student Body President Will Weiner welcomed the Suresh family on behalf of the university. CMU students, faculty, staff and alumni from around the world joined the event via webcast. HERB, a robotic butler from the renowned CMU Robotics Institute, welcomed Dr. Suresh with a firm handshake on behalf of all the non-humans that make up the unique university community. De afgelopen 193 dagen heeft Kuipers samen met een Russische en Amerikaanse astronaut in de ruimte gewoond en gewerkt. De commandant van de missie Oleg Kononenko werd als eerste uit de capsule gehaald. Daarna volgde Kuipers, die lachend uit de Sojoez werd getild. De derde ruimtevaarder, de Amerikaan Don Pettit, werd als laatste bevrijd. Omdat hun spieren na maanden in gewichtloosheid zijn verslapt, hoefden ze niet te staan maar werden naar een stoel gedragen. Kuipers belde meteen met zijn vrouw Helen, die de landing in het vluchtcentrum in Houston had gevolgd met hun kinderen. Aan het begin van het gesprek was een vrolijk "Hoi schat" van Kuipers hoorbaar. Om 06.47 uur werd de kleine Sojoez-capsule losgekoppeld van het internationale ruimtestation ISS. Een paar minuten voor 10.00 uur vloog de capsule de dampkring in en werden de remraketten aangezet. Toen de snelheid voldoende was afgenomen, gingen de parachutes open en daalde de capsule met een snelheid van 25 kilometer per uur naar de grond. The return flight from space went very well. They departed about 3 hours earlier from the ISS. The capsule also brought the Russian and American astronaut Kononenko Pettit back to earth. About 20 minutes after landing Kononenko was the first commander of the Soyuz lifted, 10 minutes later was a smiling (Dutch) André Kuipers his turn. Pettit came as last.

His success rate of acquittals is 100 percent. But most importantly KD stands not for his client, but for Justice. KD has an amazing eye for detail and an insatiable thirst for knowledge. He always seems to know enough about every profession, and what he doesn't know he covers up/makes up with his smartness. A quick thinker. KD steps into a case when all is doomed for the accused. All the doors are shut. When the prosecution has prepared a water tight open and shut case where even a blind man can tell that the accused is guilty. But no one can see the case from the angle KD does. Often through histrionics, magical gimmicks (since he has recently started learning magic ... and uses a parallel between magic and justice... that often what we see is not all... there is something beyond it), performances, which the Judge does not approve of ! And nor does his ex-love Maya (The Prosecutor who is often at the receiving end!) - But that is KD. Unstoppable, incorrigible and completely enthralling and entertaining. It is a treat to watch him perform in court week after week, tearing the toughest of cases to shreds and helping convict an evil scheming villain, and setting a poor hapless innocent victim free!"

Edward Dmytryk (September 4, 1908 -- July 1, 1999) was an American film director who was amongst the Hollywood Ten, a group of blacklisted film industry professionals who served time in prison for being in contempt of Congress during the McCarthy-era 'red scare'. Dmytryk was born in Grand Forks, British Columbia, Canada, the son of Ukrainian parents. He grew up in San Francisco when his family moved to the United States. After his mother died, his father, Michael Dmytryk, remarried. At the age of 31, Dmytryk became a naturalized citizen. Dmytryk made his directorial debut with The Hawk in 1935. His best known films from the pre-McCarthy period of his career were film noirs Crossfire, for which he received a Best Director Oscar nomination, and Murder, My Sweet, the latter an adaptation of Raymond Chandler's Farewell My Lovely. In addition, he made two World War II films: Hitler's Children, the story of the Hitler youth and Back to Bataan starring John Wayne. The late 1940s was the time of the Second Red Scare, and Dmytryk was one of many filmmakers investigated. Summoned to appear before the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC), he refused to cooperate and was sent to jail. After spending several months behind bars, Dmytryk made the decision to testify again, and give the names of his fellow members in the American Communist Party as the HUAC had demanded. On April 25, 1951, Dmytryk appeared before HUAC for the second time, answering all questions. He spoke of his own Party past, a very brief membership in 1945, including the naming of twenty-six former members of left-wing groups. He explained how John Howard Lawson, Adrian Scott, Albert Maltz and others had pressured him to include communist propaganda in his films. His testimony damaged several court cases that others of the so-called "Hollywood 10" had filed. He recounted his experiences of the period in his revealing 1996 book, Odd Man Out: A Memoir of the Hollywood Ten (Southern Illinois University Press, Carbondale, IL). For a time, Dmytryk moved to England, and Stanley Kramer hired him to direct a trio of low-budget films before handing Dmytryk The Caine Mutiny. He made films for major studios Columbia, 20th Century Fox, MGM and Paramount Pictures, including, among others, Raintree County, The Left Hand of God, The Young Lions, a remake of the Marlene Dietrich classic The Blue Angel, and The Carpetbaggers. Later into the 1960s and 1970s, he directed Where Love Has Gone, Anzio, Alvarez Kelly, Shalako, and his final film Bluebeard. His films featured such stars as Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Gene Tierney, Spencer Tracy, Elizabeth Taylor, Bette Davis, Montgomery Clift, Marlon Brando, Sean Connery, Robert Mitchum, Richard Burton, Richard Widmark and Henry Fonda. After his film career tapered off in the 1970s, he entered academia and taught at the University of Texas at Austin, and at the University of Southern California. He wrote several books on the art of filmmaking (such as On Film Editing) and lectured at various colleges and theaters, such as the Orson Welles Cinema.
