Dionne Julia Bromfield^[1] (born 1 February 1996^[2] in London) is a British soul singer-songwriter and TV Presenter. Bromfield's debut album, Introducing Dionne Bromfield, was released in 2009 by Amy Winehouse's Lioness Records label. She first came to public attention after performing on the British TV show, Strictly Come Dancing with Amy Winehouse on backing vocals.

Bromfield was born on 1 February 1996^[2] in Tower Hamlets, East London, an only child to an English mother and a Jamaican father.^[3] Bromfield grew up in Chislehurst, South London, and attended Beaverwood School for Girls in Chislehurst until 2009. Bromfield first appeared on YouTube singing a cover of Alicia Keys song "If I Ain't Got You" with her godmother Amy Winehouse.^[4] She attends the Sylvia Young Theatre School in Westminster and is currently in Year 11.^[5]

In September 2009, Bromfield was the first artist to be signed to Winehouse's record label, Lioness Records. On 25 September 2009, Bromfield performed alongside Winehouse at the The Prince's Trust End of the Summer Ball and, on 10 October, Bromfield performed a cover of The Shirelles' 1960s hit "Mama Said", while Winehouse appeared as a backing singer on the British television show Strictly Come Dancing.^[6]

Her debut album, Introducing Dionne Bromfield, was released on 12 October 2009, and the first single, "Mama Said", was released on 3 November 2009. On 10 December 2010, Bromfield performed at the Young Voices concerts at the Manchester M.E.N. Arena, on 12 January 2011 in London at the O2 Arena and the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield. The album also features the song "Foolish Little Girl", as well as the second single, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", which was released as a digital download featuring the b-side "I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus". This album consisted of cover songs and contained no original material.

[edit] 2010–present: Good for the Soul and other ventures

On 28 January 2011, it was announced that Bromfield has recorded a new single called "Yeah Right", co-written with Eg White, which features Diggy Simmons.^[7] The single, which was released as a digital download on 4 March and peaked at number 36 in the UK Singles Chart, is the lead single from her second album Good for the Soul, which was released on 4 July 2011. The album is composed completely of original material, written by Bromfield and many song writers. A second single featuring Lil Twist, "Foolin'", was released on 17 June.^[8] This album has been promoted by Bromfield appearing on television shows such as Blue Peter and Fern. Dionne is the new face of Gio-Goi jeans since 2011. Bromfield has uploaded two episodes of a web show with Will Manning called Down With Dionne on YouTube.

• Episode 1 - The first episode was uploaded to YouTube on 6 April 2011. In this episode, Will helps Bromfield hunt down her fashion favourites, and she performs an impromptu performance of her hit single "Yeah Right" on Oxford Street.
• Episode 2 - The second episode was uploaded to YouTube on 15 April 2011. In this episode, Bromfield is challenged to hunt the pockets of witting Londoners, she meets Jessie J, and Will does an Irish Jig.

It was announced that she would present a show called Friday Download on CBBC, which premiered from 6 May to 5 August. The 13-part series will address themes such as music, dance, TV, comedy, movies, and lifestyle. Bromfield said, "I did the audition and there were loads of well-known actresses auditioning, too. I didn't think I stood a chance. I'd forgotten all about it until my mum came in to tell me I'd got the job! I didn't believe her at first! It's so exciting, and I can't wait to get started!"

On 1 July 2011, Dionne Bromfield and Tinchy Stryder’s collaboration, "Spinnin' for 2012", was confirmed as the first official song for the 2012 Summer Olympics.^[9] The lyrics for the song, originally written and recorded by Speech Debelle, have been re-written by Tinchy and Bromfield. The song was released 23 September 2011.^[10]

On 20 July 2011, while performing at London's Roundhouse with The Wanted, Bromfield was joined on stage by her godmother, Amy Winehouse. This was Winehouse's last public performance before her death on 23 July 2011, aged 27.^[11]

On 23 July, two hours after the announcement of Winehouse's death, Bromfield sang at Ponty's Big Weekend in Pontypridd, supporting The Wanted. Bromfield sang for 20 minutes, only slightly short of the scheduled half-hour set and left Wales immediately after the concert.^[12]

On 5 October 2011, in her first award nomination, Bromfield was nominated for Best R&B / Soul act, at the 2011 MOBO Awards (Music of Black Origin), as well as performing in the Amy Winehouse tribute, singing "Love Is A Losing Game" at the awards ceremony.^[13]

On 17 October 2011, a remix of "Ouch That Hurt" - as featured on the soundtrack to the film Demons Never Die and featuring rapper Mz Bratt - was released in the UK.^[14]

On 24–26 January 2012, Bromfield performed for the first time outside the UK, at the Summer Soul Festival, at São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Florianópolis in Brazil. That was the same festival that on 2011 brought Winehouse to Brazil. Her song "Move A Little Faster", from her second studio album Good for the Soul, was featured as the opening track for the Hawaii Five-0 episode "Lapa'au" ("Healing").

Cleopatra Humphrey (born November 4, 1988), better known by her stage name Mz. Bratt, is an English Grime recording artist.^[1]

Humphrey was born in Bow, London. Later, she moved to Hainault and started producing her music. Her talent impressed the urban producer Terror Danjah who took her under their wing after hearing her at local MC battles and seeing her Myspace profile. Mz. Bratt was selected to be part of the T4 entertainment show the Musicool, in which she was the lead female, at one point reducing guest judge Jamelia to tears with her exceptional talent and vocal ability. Following this, Mz. Bratt embarked on a US and European tour with The Count & Sinden, which included shows at the Glastonbury Festival and at Bestival.

Mz. Bratt's first single, "Who Do You Think You Are?", was released on All Around the World Productions on 27 July 2009, and received plays on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra. The second single, "I Like You", followed in November, and was also played by Radio 1Xtra.

In February 2010, Mz. Bratt joined a new collective group formed by Wiley called A-List.^[2]

She released her third single, "Selecta", in mid-2010, under A-List Music Ltd, produced by Redlight. She is expected to release her first album at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida, in February 2012 alongside the likes of Usher and Nicole Sherzinger.

Mz. Bratt has also appeared on remixes and records with other artists including Wiley, Taio Cruz, Sadie Ama, Dionne Bromfield and Jazmine Sullivan. A remix of Tinchy Stryder's "Game Over" was promoted online in November 2010 under the name "Female Takeover Remix", with the female MCs Ruff Diamondz, Envy, Lioness, Cherri V, Baby Blue, Adot, Lady Leshurr, RoXXXan and Mz. Bratt.

Mz. Bratt and Wiley also appeared in Fugative's song "Go Hard".

She recently^[when?] took part in the MOBO tour and supported Roll Deep on their tour. She is currently^[when?] supporting Bruno Mars on the UK leg of his tour.

2012 and Upcoming Album[link]

Mz. Bratt started 2012 positively, dropping the official video for her upcoming single "Falling Down", on the 16 April 2012 on YouTube.^[4] The single is officially released on iTunes on the 6 May 2012.^[5] Bratt has confirmed that she is recording songs for her first studio album, but wont release the album until there's a demand for it and people want the album, and not just put it out for the sake of it.^[6] She has so far recorded about 50 tracks, but she only wants 5 tracks to be used on her album.^[7] She has also confirmed that she wants features on her songs, but only after she has recorded all of her songs.^[8] Mz Bratt has also stated in various interviews that she would love to work with Chris Martin from Coldplay,^[9] Labrinth^[10][11] and Wretch 32^[12] on her new album. The album is expected to be released towards the end of 2012, or early 2013.^[13]

Byron Lee OD, OJ^[1] (born Byron Aloysius St. Elmo Lee, 27 June 1935, Christiana, Manchester, Jamaica, died 4 November 2008, Kingston, Jamaica) was a musician, record producer, and entrepreneur, best known for his work as leader of Byron Lee and the Dragonaires.^[2]

Biography[link]

Lee was born in Christiana in Manchester Parish to an Afro-Jamaican mother and a Chinese father (a language teacher) originally from Kowloon, Hong Kong.^[2] His mother was from Auchtembeddie, where mento and junkanoo were popular musical forms, and his family actively upheld the cultural and musical traditions of their African ancestors.^[2] The family moved to the Mountain View Gardens area of Kingston when Lee was around 8 or 9.^[2] He learned to play piano at a convent school in Mandeville, but put music on hold when he became a member of the Jamaican national football team.^[2] He taught himself to play bass on a homemade instrument, and around 1950, along with his friend Carl Brady, he formed the first incarnation of the Dragonaires, named after the college football team that they played for, at that time concentrating on mento.^[3] The band turned professional in 1956 and went on to become one of Jamaica's leading ska bands, continuing since and taking in other genres such as calypso, Soca, and Mas.^[3]

According to Michael E. Veal in his book Dub : soundscapes and shattered songs in Jamaican reggae *Wesleyan University Press, 2007), Byron Lee is known to have introduced the electric bass guitar to Jamaica in late 1959 or 1960. However, the reason Lee began to use the electric bass as opposed to its stand-up counterpart had nothing to do with sound. Rather, it was a way for Lee to avoid carrying the large and heavy stand-up bass to the truck to move from gig to gig. The bass guitar soon gained popularity throughout the country and soon became the standard. The electric bass' louder, clearer, and more in your face sound soon changed the entire sound of Jamaican music entirely, especially after Skatalites bassist Lloyd Brevett took a liking to it.^{[citation needed]}

Lee also worked as a producer, producing many of the ska singles by The Maytals, and his entrepreneurial skills led to him setting up the Byron Lee's Spectacular Show tour, which involved several Jamaican acts (including The Maytals) touring the Caribbean. He also became the head of distribution in Jamaica for Atlantic Records.^[3] Lee purchased the West Indies Records Limited (WIRL) recording studios from Edward Seaga after fire had destroyed the pressing plant on the same site, and renamed it Dynamic Sounds, soon having a new pressing facility built on the site. It soon became one of the best-equipped studios in the Caribbean, attracting both local and international recording artists, including Paul Simon and The Rolling Stones, who recorded their famous song "Angie" there.^[3] Lee's productions included Boris Gardiner's Reggae Happening, Hopeton Lewis's Grooving Out on Life, and The Slickers' "Johnny Too Bad".^[3] Dynamic also acts as one of Jamaica's leading record distributors.

In 1990, Lee inaugurated what became an annual event, the Byron Lee Jamaica Carnival, held on Constant Spring Road, and attended by hundreds of thousands of people that united the "uptown" and "downtown" residents of Kingston, an event that Lee calls "the happiest moment in my life".^[3][4][5] Lee had performed with the Dragonaires at carnivals around the Caribbean since the mid-1970s, and chose the location for the carnival to attract revellers from all of Jamaica's classes, stating "The biggest problem was that most Jamaicans said it wouldn't work, that it isn't a carnival country, but I persisted 'cause I believed in it. I wanted carnival to go to the public. You always had other carnivals that were held mostly indoor, where persons had to pay to get in. I went to the people and choose Half-Way Tree where uptown and downtown meet. That is where the route will remain".^[6] While in the early days of ska, Lee was credited in taking it from the ghettos and giving it appeal among Jamaica's "uptown" middle- and upper-classes, he has been credited with taking soca in the opposite direction, popularising a genre that had previously only been enjoyed in Jamaica among the upper classes, with the island's working class.^[4]

Lee missed the Jamaica Carnival in 2007 as he was receiving treatment for bladder cancer after having surgery in Florida, and no longer appeared on stage with the Dragonaires, although he was still involved in the band's management, and was involved with the festival again in 2008.^[7][8] A concert was held in his honour on June 30, 2007, to celebrate his 50 years in the music industry, with artists performing including fellow cancer-survivors Myrna Hague and Pluto Shervington.^[7] Proceeds went to the Jamaica Cancer Society.^[5]

Lee was awarded the Order of Distinction in 1982, upgraded to Commander level on 15 October 2007, in recognition of his "contribution in the fields of Music and Entertainment both locally and internationally".^[9][10]

In October 2008, after receiving treatment for several weeks in Florida, Lee returned to spend his final days in Jamaica. In a ceremony at the University Hospital of the West Indies on October 26, 2008, he was awarded the Order of Jamaica (OJ).^[11] Lee died on the 4th of November 2008, aged 73.^[12] In a statement on the day of Lee's death, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Bruce Golding, said "Jamaica, and indeed the world, has lost another great music pioneer with the passing this morning of Byron Lee, one of the greatest band leaders ever to grace the entertainment stages of the world".^[13]

Pablo Ridson Francisco (born January 5, 1974) is an American stand-up comedian of Chilean origin.^[1] He started his career doing improv in Tempe, Arizona.

In the 1990s, he appeared on MADtv as a featured player. His stand-up act was introduced to America at large when he landed his own half-hour comedy special on Comedy Central Presents in 2000. In 2001 and 2002, Francisco toured as part of "The Three Amigos" with Carlos Mencia and Freddy Soto. Since then, he has performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, VH1's ILL-ustrated, Mind of Mencia as "The Voiceover Dude" (same as "Movie Voiceover Guy"), and most recently, Frank TV.

Francisco is recognized for vocal impressions of famous people including Jackie Chan, Aaron Neville, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Howard Stern, Casey Kasem, Keanu Reeves, Michael J. Fox, Jerry Springer, Don Lapre, Celine Dion, William Hung, Danny Glover, Gary Busey, and most notably Don LaFontaine (the Movie Voiceover King).
