TunePlay - SPECIES (1996) Christopher Young
1979's ALIEN was a seminal film. While low budgeters like Mario Bava's PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES (1965) had earlier attempted the gene-splicing of horror into sci fi, ALIEN was the first to do so seriously and with a degree of scientific (as well as character and narrative) credibility. In it's wake, just as EASY RIDER had set off a trend of (mostly inferior) "youth films", SHAFT a series of sub-par "blaxploitation" actioners, and THE EXORCIST a line of thrillers the devil himself would be ashamed to have his name on, so would ALIEN give birth to a new sub (par) genre - the horror/sci fi hybrid consisting of low rent fare such as INSEMINOID and GALAXY OF TERROR. John Carpenter's 1982 take on THE THING and David Cronenberg's re-imagining of THE FLY ('86) would emerge as the two best such genre "cross breeds", but both were remakes. And the crown for the best ORIGINAL "splicing" act since ALIEN would be relinquished to Roger Donaldson's fast, often funny and highly perceptive thriller SPECIES (1995). Written by Dennis Feldman (THE GOLDEN CHILD), SPECIES, on it's surface, posits an IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE-like plot about an advanced alien race which responds to human radio signal "invitations" by sending a sample of it's DNA to earth. The sample, genetically combined with our DNA, produces a part man / part alien being which (of course) escapes the lab, goes on a murderous rampage, and must then be hunted down by an assembled team of experts. The best genre films however make ...

Kuroshio Sea - 2nd largest aquarium tank in the world - (song is Please don't go by Barcelona)
The main tank called the "Kuroshio Sea" holds 7,500-cubic meters (1,981,290 gallons) of water and features the world's second largest acrylic glass panel. Whale sharks and manta rays are kept amongst many other fish species in the main tank.

About the Project
---------------------------
As of today, it is estimated that there are more than 7 billion humans living on Earth.
Humans have only been a glimpse in the Earth’s timeline, yet in the last 200 years the evolution of mankind has skyrocketed as well as the need for Earth’s resources.
Skyscrapers are growing taller than the next, like huge trees battling for sunlight. At night, from a higher point of view, traffic evokes lava flowing down a volcano.
Like a giant ant colony, humans have made this planet their own. But what about the Earth? Can we continue to take without consequences?
The City Limits tries to show that even though humans are the dominant species on the planet, there is something bigger than us.
In Carl Sagan’s own words “Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. It is up to us.”
Human progress and technology are developing at exponential rates but at what cost?
Where is the city’s limit?

JELLYFISH LAKE
Palau is a special place. Thousands of years ago these jellyfish became trapped in a natural basin on the island when the ocean receded. Over time they evolved into a new species that lost most of their stinging ability.

'100' (from 0 to 100 years in 150 seconds)
www.imaginevideo.nl
IIn October 2011 I started documenting people in the city of Amsterdam, approaching them in the street and asking them to say their age in front of the camera. My aim was to 'collect' a group of 100 people, from age 0 to 100. At first my collection grew fast but slowed down when it got down to the very young and very old. The young because of sensivity around filming or photographing children and the very old because they don't get out of the house much. I found my very old 'models' in care homes and it was a privilege to document these -often vulnerable- people for this project. I had particular problems finding a 99 year-old. (Apparently 100 year-olds enjoy notoriety, but a 99 year-old is a rare species...) And when I finally did find one, she refused to state her age. She simply denied being 99 years old! But finally, some 4 months after I recorded my first 'age', I was able to capture the 'missing link' and conclude this project. Enjoy.
(By the way: together these people have lived 5050 years...)
