Eastern Samar (Filipino: Silangang Samar; Cebuano: Sidlakang Samar; Waray-Waray: Sidlangan nga Samar) is a province in the Philippines located in the Eastern Visayas region. Its capital is the city of Borongan. Eastern Samar occupies the eastern portion of the island of Samar. Bordering the province to the north is the province of Northern Samar and to the west is Samar and to the east is the vast Pacific Ocean. off the coast of Leyte Gulf.
During his circumnavigation of the globe, Ferdinand Magellan had set foot on the tiny island of Homonhon in the southern part of the province. On March 16, 1521, the area of what is now Eastern Samar is said to be the first Philippine landmass spotted by Magellan and his crew.
Eastern Samar, as a province, was created from Samar by virtue of Republic Act No. 4221 on June 19, 1965. Congressmen Eladio T. Balite (1st Dist. Samar), Fernando R. Veloso (2nd Dist. Samar), and Felipe J. Abrigo (3rd Dist. Samar), authored Republic Act 4221 which was approved by Congress in 1963. The law, ratified in a plebiscite on June 19, 1965, divided Samar into three, namely, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar and (Western) Samar.
Samar (/ˈsɑːmɑːr/ SAH-mar) is an island in the Visayas, within central Philippines and the third largest island in the country. The island is divided into three provinces: Samar province (the western two-fifths of the island of Samar), Northern Samar province, and Eastern Samar province. These three provinces, along with the provinces on the nearby islands of Leyte and Biliran are part of the Eastern Visayas region.
Samar is the easternmost island in the Visayas. The island is separated from Leyte by the San Juanico Strait, which at its narrowest point is only about two kilometers across. This strait is crossed by the San Juanico Bridge. Samar lies southeast of the Bicol Peninsula on Luzon, the country's largest island; the San Bernardino Strait separates the two. To the south of Samar is the Leyte Gulf, the site of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, one of the most decisive naval battles during the Second World War. The gulf opens out into the Philippine Sea, found to the east of Samar and is part of the Pacific Ocean.
Maydolong is a fourth class municipality in the province of Eastern Samar, Philippines. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 13,614 people. With a size of 399.63 km² it is the third largest municipality of Eastern Samar, and is subdivided into 20 barangays. Maydolong proper consists of seven barangays.
There are two stories about the naming of Maydolong. Officially accepted by the Sangguniang Bayan is the story of a fisherman who used to travel to the village of Matnog. Because they needed to rest from their travel along the east coast of Samar, these fisherman used to say "Matnog it Dolong" which means "the bow must point to Matnog" in the local dialect. This saying got shortened to Maydolong, which eventually became the name of the village.
Maydolong was created from the barrios of Maydolong, Balogo, Maybocog, Omawas, Tagaslian, Kampakirit, Suribao, Mayburak, Kanmanungdong, Malobago, Tabi, Maytigbao, and Kanluterio, May 1, 1951. These barrios used to belong to the provincial capital Borongan, Eastern Samar.

A jammed packed adventure with ONLY having 1 week of travel through the Philippines. We managed to stop in at Manila, Taal Volcano, Camandag Island, Samar Island and Boracay. First stopping in at "Manila" we stayed in Makati City which is the country's financial hub and also known for the skyscrapers, Ayala Triangle gardens and shopping malls.
