Spanish Virgin Islands Adventure-Jan 2013: The Spanish Virgin Islands are located to the east of Puerto Rico and are comprised of the Islands of Vieques, Culebra and Culebrita + dozens of other smaller uninhabited micro islands that may or may not appear on your regular map. These islets are a delight to visit if you have the means to access them. Some of them are only visible during the low tide, which makes them even more special. They are part of a bigger group of islands called simply The Virgin Islands Arquipelago. (US Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands). The whole area was the scenario for a game of "Colonial Musical Chairs" for the past few hundred years as many different peoples swapped claims of ownerships over them such as the Danish, the Dutch, the British, the Spaniards, the French and most recently the Americans. A very rich history indeed that mixed with the traditions of the original Caribbean people and the "forced expats" from West Africa makes for a very unique island hoping experience. I had the pleasure to visit the region in January of 2013 and although I mostly kept to the uninhabited islands, my experience was a great one nonetheless.
