Carraroe (Irish: An Cheathrú Rua Irish pronunciation: [ənˠ ˌça(h).ɾˠuː ˈɾˠuˑə], its official name) is a village in County Galway, Republic of Ireland. The village is within the Irish-speaking region (Gaeltacht) of Connemara, and is famous for its traditional fishing boats known as Galway Hookers. Its population is widely dispersed over Carraroe peninsula between Greatman's Bay (Cuan an Fhir Mhóir) and Casla Bay (Cuan Chasla). Carraroe has an unusual 'coral' beach, Trá an Dóilín, a biogenic gravel beach actually made of coralline algae known as "maerl".
It is served by Bus Éireann route 424 from Galway.
Carraroe has one hotel, Óstán an Dóilín. The public houses include Réalt na Maidine (An Réalt), Tigh ʼn Tailliúra, and An Chistín (Shea's).
Galway Hookers are a distinctive form of native Irish boat, and Carraroe is today probably the single most important centre for these boats. Every August bank holiday, Carraroe hosts Féile an Dóilín, the largest Galway hooker festival in Ireland, and one of the largest maritime festivals in the country. The 2006 Féile an Dóilín, which is named after the area's unique "coral strand", was the largest gathering of Galway hookers in the history of Galway hooker regattas. The main boats are the larger Báid Mhóra (big boats) and Leathbháid (half-boats), which in earlier times were used for hauling turf from the peat bogs in Connemara to the Aran Islands and the Burren of County Clare, where peat is absent. The smaller boats are the Gleoiteoga, which were traditionally used for fishing. These boats can be found in the Caladh Thadhg area in Carraroe, which is the main pier in Carraroe. From this pier you will get panoramic views of the Twelve Bens mountains.
A fire station (also called a fire house, fire hall, or firemen's hall) is a structure or other area set aside for storage of firefighting apparatus such as fire engines and related vehicles, personal protective equipment, fire hoses and other specialized equipment. It may also have dormitory living facilities and work areas for the use of fire fighters. Living areas are sometimes arranged above the garage bays where personnel without specific station duties during the night shift are allowed to sleep unless a dispatch is called. In that situation, firefighters may have special means to allow entry to the ground floor quickly when a call for help is received, such as sliding down a brass pole called a fireman's pole. This arrangement also allows for a raised area to hang hoses to dry to prevent damage. In a single story station, a tower-like structure is sometimes used for hose hanging.
An occupied station will usually have a station alarm system for receiving and annunciating an alarm, and indications of where and what caused the alarm. However, sometimes the only "alarm" is a telephone that is rung in case of emergency. In a volunteer fire department where volunteers do not staff the station, the firefighters may be summoned to the fire station by siren, radio or pagers, making a station alarm system superfluous.
Forgiven, Not Forgotten is the debut album by Irish folk rock group The Corrs. It was released by Atlantic Records on 26 September 1995 across the world. The album was primarily produced by David Foster, with additional production by Jim Corr. In January 1997, a special tour edition of the album was released in Australia and New Zealand and featured a bonus disc containing live and rare tracks which were recorded from their Forgiven, Not Forgotten World Tour.
The title track and the band was featured in an episode of Beverly Hills, 90210 called "Turn Back the Clock". The band performed the song at a New Year's Eve party at the Peach Pit After Dark. The album spawned five official single releases.
On 26 April 1996 the Corrs embarked on their Forgiven, Not Forgotten World Tour that started in Ennis, Ireland, before then travelling to Europe, Australia, Asia, America and Canada, ultimately lasting the better part of two years.
All songs written and composed by The Corrs, with additional writing by David Foster on "Someday".

I uploaded this video recently which was taken from the latest CD release from the legendary Connemara singer John Beag. It was a song written by Bidín Phádhraig Ua Chlocharta about the village of Carraroe. It relays memories of turbulent times in the history of this country. The people of Carraroe played a significant part in the fight for freedom. They were the first people who rose against the land lords during the period of the 'Land Leaguers'. This song was given to me by Bidín's daughter, Mairéad Uí Chonghaile from Bóthar Buí, Carrore. I hope you enjoy listening to this fine song from a fine singer ! Slán LimerickLad (Anthony)

TG4 to broadcast documentary about the new Carraroe Fire Station. The people of south Connemara on the West Coast of Ireland have been campaigning for a Fire Station for over 50 years. The closest Fire Stations to them were Galway and Clifden which is nearly an hour away. This was not practical in the event of an emergency and finally after all of those years they were granted their wishes and a new fire Station was set up in Carraroe, which is central to their designated fire ground. On February 22nd 2016 the brand new Fire Station in Carraroe started operating in the south Connemara region. 9 local men spent nearly a year training to be Firemen to work in the Station. They all live within 5 minutes of the station. Fir Dóiteáin, An Cheathrú Rua. (The Carraroe Firemen) is a an observ...
