Saint Elmo, St. Elmo or Saint Elme may refer to:
Fort Saint Elmo (Maltese: Forti Sant'Iermu) is a star fort in Valletta, Malta. It stands on the seaward shore of the Sciberras Peninsula that divides Marsamxett Harbour from Grand Harbour, and commands the entrances to both harbours along with Fort Tigné and Fort Ricasoli. It is best known for its role in the Great Siege of Malta of 1565.
By 1417, the local militia had already established a permanent watch post on the tip of the Sciberras Peninsula. In 1488, the Aragonese built a watchtower on Saint Elmo Point, and it was dedicated to Erasmus of Formia, better known as Saint Elmo. In 1533, the Order of Saint John reinforced the tower due to its strategic location. In 1551, an Ottoman raid occurred in which the Turkish fleet sailed into Marsamxett Harbour unopposed. Due to this, it was decided that a major expansion was necessary, and in 1552 the tower was demolished and a new star fort began to be built. It was designed by four Italian architects and had a cavalier, a covertway and a tenaille. A ravelin was hastily constructed months before the 1565 siege.
Elmo is a Muppet character on the children's television show Sesame Street. He is a furry red monster with a falsetto voice, who hosts the last full fifteen-minute segment on Sesame Street, "Elmo's World", which is aimed at toddlers. He was most often puppeteered by Kevin Clash. Following Clash's resignation in late 2012, he has been puppeteered by Ryan Dillon.
Elmo is self-described as three-and-a-half years old and his birthday is on February 3. Elmo characteristically avoids pronouns, referring to himself in the third person (e.g. "Elmo wants this" instead of, "I want this"). Sesame Street staff writer Nancy Sans once described Elmo's origins: "There was this extra red puppet lying around and the cast would pick him up sometimes and try to create a personality, but nothing seemed to materialize."
The puppet, originally known as "Baby Monster", was performed by Caroll Spinney and Jerry Nelson in the background of episodes from the early 1970s, Brian Muehl from 1979 to 1981, and Richard Hunt from 1981 to 1984. Sans continues that "...one day [in 1984], Kevin Clash, a talented puppeteer, raised him up and brought energy and life into Elmo and from that day forward we would all write for Elmo. Kevin's performance inspired the writers to develop Elmo's character".John Tartaglia, Matt Vogel, and Jim Martin have all been secondary performers for the character, providing movement for Elmo's arms and legs, particularly in green-screen shots.
Fortifications are military constructions or buildings designed for the defense of territories in warfare, and also used to solidify rule in a region during peace time. Humans have constructed defensive works for many thousands of years, in a variety of increasingly complex designs. The term is derived from the Latin fortis ("strong") and facere ("to make").
From very early history to modern times, walls have been a necessity for cities to survive in an ever changing world of invasion and conquest. Some settlements in the Indus Valley Civilization were the first small cities to be fortified. In ancient Greece, large stone walls had been built in Mycenaean Greece, such as the ancient site of Mycenae (famous for the huge stone blocks of its 'cyclopean' walls). A Greek Phrourion was a fortified collection of buildings used as a military garrison, and is the equivalent of the Roman castellum or English fortress. These construction mainly served the purpose of a watch tower, to guard certain roads, passes, and lands that might threaten the kingdom. Though smaller than a real fortress, they acted as a border guard rather than a real strongpoint to watch and maintain the border.

Malta (i/ˈmɒltə/; Maltese: [ˈmɐltɐ]), officially the Republic of Malta (Maltese: Repubblika ta' Malta), is a Southern European island country comprising an archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. It lies 80 km (50 mi) south of Italy, 284 km (176 mi) east of Tunisia, and 333 km (207 mi) north of Libya. The country covers just over 316 km2 (122 sq mi), with a population of just under 450,000 (despite an extensive emigration programme since the Second World War), making it one of the world's smallest and most densely populated countries. The capital of Malta is Valletta, which at 0.8 km2, is the smallest national capital in the European Union. Malta has two official languages: Maltese and English.
Malta's location has historically given it great strategic importance as a naval base, and a succession of powers, including the Phoenicians, Romans, Moors, Normans, Sicilians, Spanish, Knights of St. John, French and British, have ruled the islands.

The IN GUARDIA PARADE is a re-enactment that evokes an authentic event that took place regularly inside important military fortifications in Malta and Gozo. The re-enactment portrays the inspection of Fort St Elmo by the Grand Bailiff in charge of military affairs in order to ensure that the fort is in good condition to defend the Valletta peninsula and the two harbours situated on either side of it. During the re-enactment, the soldiers and knights of the fort's garrison - some 50 re-enactors in all - are kitted out in their finest uniforms to perform their military drill in order to demonstrate to the Grand Bailiff their state of readiness in the event of a military threat. The show starts at 11.00 hrs and lasts 45 minutes. Admission: Tickets at the gate: Adults : € 7 Children (6 - 1...
Hello Explorers! In this vieo I show you an overview of the National War Museum in Valletta. I must say that I was unexpectedly surprised the War Museum! Nick chose to visit the War Museum and I though that it would have been a very "boy choice"... In reality it was a super experience! First of all because the War Museum is located in Fort St Elmo in Valletta. Visiting the fort in itself is an experience! It dominates the tip of the Sciberras peninsula. It was built by the Knights of Malta when they arrived on the island in 1530. The aim was to defence the Grand Harbour and Marsaxmett from the Ottomans. Consider that it was built in only 6 months in a star-shaped form. The various exhibitions inside the fort accompany the visitor through the history of Malta, from the Bronze Age, the Ph...

The main aim of a project of this nature is that of rehabilitating the structures on site for sympathetic and complementary re-use. This in turn necessitates the removal of that which is deterring from the full enjoyment of the monument and the addition of supporting structures and interventions which complement and aid in bringing to life the spaces and places of this historic Fort. For example, we often remove cement that was put in in previous restoration attempts. Cement does not let the old stone breathe and contains salts that are detrimental to the stone. Therefore, we have replaced the cement in the piazza with a macroporous, breathable plaster. We have also worked on fixing up the flaking of stone, biological growths, and pollution stains to restore the fort to its former glory.

This chapel had been in existence since 1488 and whilst planning this fort, the Order’s engineer decided to incorporate it into the very structure of the casemated ramparts .... .... this chapel served as the final battleground of the Great Siege of 1565. Within it, knights and chaplains were slaughtered, as they tried to defend the altar. Today, this chapel lies humbly in a corner of Fort St Elmo. Visitors who walk inside, cherish the grandeur of its architecture. Yet if only walls could talk, they surely would have a lot of narratives to disclose...
