Boiko Borisov hvanat v korupcia / Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borisov caught in corruption
It turns out that the Bulgarian PM protects a manufacturer of beer who got his license withdrawn by the authorities for improprieties. Boiko calls the boss of BUlgarian Customs and tells him off and orders that he takes away his officers because "Misho the Beer" called me and complained.". At the time, Misho the Beer owes a large amount to SI Bank, formerly almost fully and now partially owned by Borisov's long term girlfriend Cvetelina Borislavova. If he had no license to work and his factory remained shut down as it should have been, he could not return the money he owes SI Bank... 3 months latter the license of the beer factory is returned (May 2010) and all is forgotten. Till today.

Bulgaria's government has resigned amid growing public violence over high energy prices and a low standard of living. Prime Minister Boiko Borisov had tried to calm nationwide street protests. He had sacked his finance minister and promised to cut the cost of electricity which is one of the major complaints from Bulgarians who earn, on average, just over 400 euros a month. But that did nothing to deflect the anger and he resigned to parliament. Borisov said he will not participate in a government under which police beat people. There were ferocious clashes between riot squads and protesters -- at least 25 demonstrators had to have hospital treatment. Even though Bulgaria's austerity measures appeared relatively tame compared to others elsewhere in Europe, nearly 12 per cent of the workforce are jobless, and frustrations boiled over when heating bills went up during the winter. There is a chance that elections scheduled for July could be brought forward.

Bulgarian Government Resigns amid Violent Clashes & Protests
Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borisov told parliament on Wednesday that his entire government has resigned. The move came after nationwide protests against the effects of high electricity prices and austerity measures in the EU's poorest nation. On Monday, Borisov fired his unpopular finance minister for not moving fast enough to liberalise the country's energy industry. In response to widespread complaints about sky-rocketing electricity bills, Borisov also confirmed that the distribution licence of electricity provider CEZ will be revoked. There has been no indication on whether July's parliamentary election will be brought forward. Borisov blamed police brutality for his personal decision to resign after 25 protesters were taken to hospital after clashes on Tuesday. "I will not participate in a government under which police are beating people," Borisov told parliament.

An alleged crime boss is shot and wounded in central Sofia on his way to court. Full story: Convicted Bulgarian crime boss "The Beret" was shot and wounded as he entered a court in central Sofia on Tuesday. The 44-year-old Zlatomir Ivanov was shot four times in his legs, arm and stomach. He was attending court to appeal his conviction for running a drug trafficking gang. His bodyguard was also wounded, and both were taken to a hospital. Local media says his nickname is from the crime boss' time as a member of a special police force known as "The Berets." Ivanov has been allowed to remain under house arrest while awaiting his appeal due to health problems. Bulgaria is the European Union's poorest member. The country has had longstanding problems with corruption and organized crime. Brussels has been pushing the country to tackle the problems. However, Prime Minister Boiko Borisov's has done little to punish corrupt officials and crime bosses since his GERB party swept to power in 2009, and a struggling economy may have continued to encourage crime.
