DROMOLUX
If you became aware of your increasing dementia, what would you do? In a society predicated on the transfer and consumption of information, the wish for never-ending cognitive function will replace the desire for endless healthiness and beauty.
The „dromolux“ is a speed-reading trainer that flashes words at an increasing pace using a strobe light and very short exposure. Used together with appropriate medication it could help people to fight cognitive deterioration, or increase their abilities to never before seen levels.
This object is designed for a world in which the global processing of information has grown enormously, coupled with brain enhancement drugs becoming morally accepted, effective and safe. It visualises a form of perception that is incomprehensible for people today, but provides a possible glimpse into a future information society.

we love coffee! we love design!
like most design professionals, we are obsessed with good coffee. like many designers, we view every process in life as an opportunity to re-invent. there are few options for dealing with organic garbage in a big city like new york. pulling all these streams together, we spent several weekends experimenting with materials and processes to find a use for the copious used coffee grounds that are otherwise discarded.
the result is – POTHRA™ – made from resin and leftover coffee grounds.
this unique flower pot brings a new use of an otherwise wasted material, turning an everyday cup of coffee into a functional item that challenges this consumption-oriented world with the idea that eco-friendly need not be ugly. Each piece is unique - different roasts of coffee interact with the resin in surprising and beautiful ways, creating a collection of hand cast individual pieces - where no two look the same.
this kickstarter project is to create a mass-production-technique version of our hand made edition.
you are not buying just a flower pot, but also helping create a proven system for sustainable value-added recycling. our goal is to create a scale-able system for utilizing the many tons of used coffee grounds produced by consumers, and moreover, coffee shops globally to produce useful and value-added products. we can envision a whole range of products from consumer to industrial that can benefit from a locally sourced eco-friendly material.

Visual Sign Universe
The Visual Sign Universe (VSU) was a response to a commission from the advertising agency DDB España to enhance their Sign Bank: an analytical tool that monitors social trends and groups them in terms of various categories (Wellbeing, Values, Tension, Technology, Youth, Heroes...).
The VSU fulfils a dual function: first, it facilitates the analytical work of planners and copywriters in identifying and classifying new trends that affect society and its forms of consumption, and second, it is a powerful tool of communication between the agency and its clients, useful for explaining the creative process, or part of it, from the idea through to its connection with social trends.

Lost in Transaction - existential needs in the banking experience
Religious affiliations drop, consumerism increases. Should the bank support some of the functions previously offered by religious institutions?
The aim in this project is to ask questions about the role of the bank institution in a time when consumption - how we spend or not spend our money - is many people’s strongest creator of identity and what most accurately reflects their values. Ethical and financial life decisions have become two sides of the same coin and what you do with your money is a statement.
In secular times when people seek meaning in material things, could a bank provide an ethical ground for consumption? Help you connect better with your community? What about offering you comfort when you’re remorseful about a purchase?
This project is done for the third semester course “Transformative Transactions” at Umeå Institute of Design in corporation with the Brazilian bank Itaú.
