Japanese Horror Anthology - She-Bear - Part 1/2
She-Bear (Kuma Onna - くま女) Two high school girls experience first-hand that some urban legends have far more substance than mere rumor. Here they come face-to-face with the Kuma Onna who, as the legend has it, collects grisly "mementos" from her victims. White Eyes - 1 of 8 (Japanese Horror with English Captions)
At long last, I'm pleased to present part 1 of one of the videos that fans of the channel have been asking for the most. This movie is from the same team that brought us The Unidentified. Keep in mind that movies like this take some time to be translated, so be patient while I work on the whole thing. Many, many thanks to my friend Chemizon for this one. Be sure to stop by his channel and subscribe. www.youtube.com Join me on Facebook (Rafael Montecristo) Translated and subbed by montecristo73. Thanks for watching and subscribing.

Swan's Japanese Horror Reviews 5: Pulse
Review of the 2001 J-horror film Pulse (Kairo), by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. This is a great piece of Japanese Horror that deals with isolation. The official English site for Pulse where you can see the trailer and some pictures can be found at: www.pulsefilm.net Pulse was released by Magnolia Pictures, and they did a good job overall! www.magpictures.com Thanks gang, as always I appreciate the feedback! Swan's Japanese Horror Reviews 24: Cure
Review of the 1997 film from Kiyoshi Kurosawa. A very moody and engaging detective story centered around a group of victims with an 'x' carved in their necks, and a man who has lost his memory and may have a special power. Film Score: 7/10.

Japanese Horror Anthology - Lost Souls - Part 1/2
Lost Souls (Komen no Oni - 湖面の魂) The translation of the Japanese title is actually "Demon Of The Lake's Surface" and refers to a destructively haunting force emanating from a local lake where the tragic suicide of an entire family has taken place. When two young people decide to stop at a lakeside noodle shop for a midnight snack, the matter of getting home safely suddenly becomes a life and death issue. Swan's Japanese Horror Reviews 9: Audition
Review of Takashi Miike's 1999 masterpiece, Audition (オーディション). To me, this is how cinema should be made, this is a fine example of Japanese horror going beyond ghosts and settling into something that might be far too real. This isn't conventional J-horror at all, in fact it's a fairly slow moving film, but the pay-off at the end is fantastic and this is my favorite movie. All in all, I think it's one film that viewers need to experience. Also, this episode now features me giving a score for each film I review (out of 1-10 scale, 10 being my fave film ever). I also give a seperate score for the DVD, taking into account the presentation and extra features provided. Next episode will probably be a film on the other end of the spectrum, which means I'll probably review a film that I think is garbage. What will it be? Tune in next time :)

Japanese Horror Anthology - Yamamba - Part 1/2
Yamamba / Yamaba The Yamamba of ancient Japanese lore involves a mountain spirit which makes prey of those wandering or lost in remote mountainous regions. The hideous demon generally takes the form of a harmless elderly woman. Those unfortunate enough to be deceived by this guise are said to be devoured by the demon. In this tale, two contemporary TV producers venture into a remote rural town in the hopes of doing a story on the local legend of a yamamba. Swan's Japanese Horror Reviews 50: THE BEST AND WORST OF J-HORROR
So we have at last reached the milestone 50th installment of my japanese horror review series! In this mega episode, I begin by introducing three films that were key to getting me into the genre, and then I go over my personal top 5 worst and best j-horror films. I also hand out some additional honors and awards including: Best Villian Goriest Film Best Appearance by Santa Claus Worst Performance Scariest Film As with any best/worst of, these are just my humble opinions. I'm sure everyone on here is going to have a totally different list, but life would be no fun if we all thought the same right? I encourage you to write in the comments and let me know your own best/worst films! In closing, thanks so much for watching these videos over the past 2 years. These reviews have come a long way since the first review video on the ring. I've also grown into a much better looking guy, if I do say so myself. That's neither here nor there however hah. Hopefully these videos have inspired some of you to go out and buy these dvds and support the great region one companies such as Tokyoshock and Tartan Asia Extreme. Gotta support the companies bringing these over to get more on the way! Thanks for watching everybody! rodger www.tokyoswan.blogspot.com

Swan's Japanese Horror Reviews 1: Ring series
Episode one: Ring series. This is my video review of the ring (ringu) movies. Ringu 1 and 2 were directed by Hideo Nakata, Rasen was directed by George Iida, and Ringu 0 was directed by Norio Tsuruta. Hopefully, this will be the first of many video reviews on region one Japanese Horror or j-horror as it's sometimes called. I'm thinking my next review will be on the Ju-on films released here, so please tell me what you think and I'll see you next time! ~Swan (note that Japanese names are given here in the more Western order of given name and then family name.)

S3 Special - J-Horror

This is one of my favorite songs by Japanese black metal band Sigh. I thought the song needed to be synched with bloody, twisted Japanese cinema. Now it is, in all its gory glory. "Hail, Horror, Hail!"

Sadako 3D theatrical trailer - J-horror series Ring
13 years after the original Ring movie, Sadako returns to the big screen in 3D! Akane is a high school teacher who hears a rumor from her students that there is actual footage on the Internet of someone's suicide. The footage is said to drive anyone who sees it to also commit suicide. Akane does not believe the rumor at first, but when one of her female students dies after viewing the footage, she and her boyfriend Takanori are fatefully drawn into the horror that has been created by the man who appears in the suicide footage, Kashiwada. Kashiwada's intention is to create chaos in the world by bringing back Sadako and the power of her curse. Now Akane has to fight against Sadako and Kashiwada to save the lives of herself and Takanori.

Japanese Horror Anthology - Peony Lamp - Part 1/2
Peony Lamp (Botan Dorou) This, of course, is the classic kwaidan tale of Shinzaburo's ghostly visit from a deceased lover. This tale has been recreated countless times and a full-length film release is available to Western audiences in Haunted Lantern. Personally speaking, the moral of this tale as I see it is simply this: Better to be the jolly priest with the large bottle of rice wine than the amorous Shinzaburo with his way-too-attached lover. Swan's Japanese Horror Reviews 6: Infection
Review of Masayuki Ochiai's 2004 Japanese Horror film Infection (Kansen). This is a very interesting J-horror film that is full of mystery and suspense, but isn't afraid to let loose on some shockingly gory scenes. Great for fans of the Ring and the Grudge. This film is a first in a series of six planned films called the "J-Horror Theater." Premonition (yogen) and Reincarnation (Rinne) were the second and third films to come out in this line. All three have been released here in the States by Lionsgate Films. As always, thanks for watching! Please subscribe for the latest reviews. The tokyo video blog will start in a few weeks as well!
