Meteorite Falls In Russian Urals Chelyabinsk region UFO? 2/15/2013
A series of explosions in the skies of Russia's Urals region, reportedly caused by a meteor shower, has sparked panic in three major cities. Witnesses said that houses shuddered, windows were blown out and cellphones stopped working. Atmospheric phenomena have been registered in the cities of Chelyabinsk, Yekaterinburg and Tyumen. In Chelyabinsk, witnesses said the explosion was so loud that it resembled an earthquake and thunder at the same time, and that there were huge trails of smoke across the sky. Others reported seeing burning objects fall to earth. Office buildings in downtown Chelyabinsk are being evacuated. The regional Emergency Ministry said the phenomenon was a meteorite shower, but locals have speculated that it was a military fighter jet crash or a missile explosion. "According to preliminary data, the flashes seen over the Urals were caused by [a] meteorite shower," the Emergency Ministry told Itar-Tass news agency. падение метеорита Челябинск 6

Chelyabinsk meteorite Urals Russia 02/15/13
Meteorite hits Russian Urals: Fireball explosion wreaks havoc, up to 1200 injured Russia's Urals region has been rocked by a meteorite explosion in the stratosphere. The impact wave damaged several buildings, and blew out thousands of windows amid frigid winter weather. Hundreds have sought medical attention for minor injuries. Around 1200 people have sought medical attention in Chelyabinsk alone because of the disaster, the region's governor Mikhail Yurevich told RIA Novosti. Over 110 of them have been hospitalized and two of them are in heavy condition. Among the injured there are 159 children, Emergency ministry reported. A 52-year-old woman who suffered spinal fracture will be transported to Moscow for treatment. Army units found three meteorite debris impact sites, two of which are in an area near Chebarkul Lake, west of Chelyabinsk. The third site was found some 80 kilometers further to the northwest, near the town of Zlatoust. One of the fragments that struck near Chebarkul left a crater six meters in diameter. Servicemembers from the tank brigade that found the crater have confirmed that background radiation levels at the site are normal.

Meteorite hits Russian Urals: Fireball explosion wreaks havoc, over 900 injured
People heading to work in Chelyabinsk heard what sounded like an explosion, saw a bright light and then felt a shockwave according to a Reuters correspondent in the industrial city 1500 km (950 miles) east of Moscow. A fireball blazed across the horizon, leaving a long white trail in its wake which could be seen as far as 200 km (125 miles) away in Yekaterinburg. Car alarms went off, windows shattered and mobile phone networks were interrupted. "I was driving to work, it was quite dark, but it suddenly became as bright as if it was day," said Viktor Prokofiev, 36, a resident of Yekaterinburg in the Urals Mountains. "I felt like I was blinded by headlights," he said. No fatalities were reported but President Vladimir Putin, who was due to host Finance Ministry officials from the Group of 20 nations in Moscow, and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev were informed. A local ministry official said such incidents were extremely rare and Friday's events might have been linked to an asteroid the size of an Olympic swimming pool due to pass Earth at a distance of 27520 km (17100 miles) but this was not confirmed. Russia's space agency Roscosmos said the meteorite was travelling at a speed of 30 km (19 miles) per second and that such events were hard to predict. The Interior Ministry said the meteorite explosion had caused a sonic boom. Russia's Emergencies Ministry said 514 people had sought medical help, mainly for light injuries caused by flying glass, and that 112 of those were kept ...

Meteorite Slams Russia Urals Region Injuring Hundreds UFO?Apocalypse Now? 2/15/2013
A meteor streaked across the sky over Russia's Ural Mountains on Friday morning, causing sharp explosions and reportedly injuring around 100 people. Fragments of the meteor fell in a thinly populated area of the Chelyabinsk region, the Emergency Ministry said in a statement. Interior Ministry spokesman Vadim Kolesnikov said 102 people had called for medical assistance following the incident, mostly for treatment of injuries from glass broken by the explosions. Kolsenikov also said about 600 square meters (6000 square feet) of a roof at a zinc factory had collapsed. Reports conflicted on what exactly happened in the clear skies. A spokeswoman for the Emergency Ministry, Irina Rossius, told The Associated Press that there was a meteor shower, but another ministry spokeswoman, Elena Smirnikh, was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying it was a single meteorite. Amateur video broadcast on Russian television showed an object speeding across the sky about 9:20 am local time (0320 GMT), leaving a thick white contrail and an intense flash.

Meteorite Crash In Russia's Ural Mountains Sparks UFO Fears Video
russia ural meteor | Explosions and bright flashes in the sky over several locations in Russia's Urals region has sparked fears of a UFO crash, according to RT news. The crash -- felt in Chelyabinsk, Tyumen and Sverdlovsk and elsewhere -- resembled an earthquake, witnesses report. The Associated Press confirmed that at least one meteorite has fallen in Chelyabinsk. There were conflicting reports. The Interfax news agency described the event as a meteor shower, a spokeswoman for Russia's Emergency Ministry, told the AP. But the Interfax news agency described the incident as a single meteorite. "It was definitely not a plane," an emergency official told Reuters. "We are gathering the bits of information and have no data on the casualties so far." The AP reports that there were no confirmed reports of injuries in the thinly populated region where the meteorite struck. However, the wire service cites unnamed sources that indicate some people at a school in the Ural Mountains had been hurt. RT quotes witnesses who say the blast and unusual spectacle overhead had some residents fearing a UFO. "My windows were not smashed, but I first thought that my house is being dismantled, then I thought it was a UFO, and my eventual thought was an earthquake," Bukreeva Olga wrote on Twitter, according to the news site.

✔7000 Ton Meteor Shockwave Felt In Russian Urals - Feb 15, 2013
Shockwave follows at 0:12 Backup channel...www.youtube.com Feb 15, 2013 Meteor Streaks Across Russian Urals, Leaves Nearly 1000 Injured MOSCOW — With a blinding flash and a booming shock wave, a meteor blazed across the western Siberian sky Friday and exploded with the force of 20 atomic bombs, injuring more than 1000 people as it blasted out windows and spread panic in a city of 1 million. While NASA estimated the meteor was only about the size of a bus and weighed an estimated 7000 tons, the fireball it produced was dramatic. Video shot by startled residents of the city of Chelyabinsk showed its streaming contrails as it arced toward the horizon just after sunrise, looking like something from a world-ending science-fiction movie. The largest recorded meteor strike in more than a century occurred hours before a 150-foot asteroid passed within about 17000 miles (28000 kilometers) of Earth. The European Space Agency said its experts had determined there was no connection between the asteroid and the Russian meteor -- just cosmic coincidence. The meteor above western Siberia entered the Earth's atmosphere about 9:20 am local time (10:20 pm EST Thursday) at a hypersonic speed of at least 33000 mph (54000 kph) and shattered into pieces about 30-50 kilometers (18 to 32 miles) high, the Russian Academy of Sciences said. NASA estimated its speed at about 40000 mph, said it exploded about 12 to 15 miles high, released 300 to 500 kilotons of energy and left a trail 300 miles long ...
