Numbers 31 - Vengeance on the Midianites
Numbers 31 Vengeance on the Midianites 1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites. After that, you will be gathered to your people." 3 So Moses said to the people, "Arm some of your men to go to war against the Midianites and to carry out the LORD's vengeance on them. 4 Send into battle a thousand men from each of the tribes of Israel." 5 So twelve thousand men armed for battle, a thousand from each tribe, were supplied from the clans of Israel. 6 Moses sent them into battle, a thousand from each tribe, along with Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, who took with him articles from the sanctuary and the trumpets for signaling. 7 They fought against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and killed every man. 8 Among their victims were Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba—the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword. 9 The Israelites captured the Midianite women and children and took all the Midianite herds, flocks and goods as plunder. 10 They burned all the towns where the Midianites had settled, as well as all their camps. 11 They took all the plunder and spoils, including the people and animals, 12 and brought the captives, spoils and plunder to Moses and Eleazar the priest and the Israelite assembly at their camp on the plains of Moab, by the Jordan across from Jericho. [a] 13 Moses, Eleazar the priest and all the leaders of the community went to meet them outside the camp. 14 Moses was angry with the ...

Judges 7 Gideon Defeats the Midianites
Judges 7 Gideon Defeats the Midianites 1 Early in the morning, Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) and all his men camped at the spring of Harod. The camp of Midian was north of them in the valley near the hill of Moreh. 2 The LORD said to Gideon, "You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her, 3 announce now to the people, 'Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.' " So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained. 4 But the LORD said to Gideon, "There are still too many men. Take them down to the water, and I will sift them for you there. If I say, 'This one shall go with you,' he shall go; but if I say, 'This one shall not go with you,' he shall not go." 5 So Gideon took the men down to the water. There the LORD told him, "Separate those who lap the water with their tongues like a dog from those who kneel down to drink." 6 Three hundred men lapped with their hands to their mouths. All the rest got down on their knees to drink. 7 The LORD said to Gideon, "With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the other men go, each to his own place." 8 So Gideon sent the rest of the Israelites to their tents but kept the three hundred, who took over the provisions and trumpets of the others. Now the camp of Midian lay below him in the valley. 9 During that night the LORD said to Gideon ...

"Genocide" and the Bible Part 28 Midianites and Numbers 31
Secondly, the accusation that these girls were for sex slave purposes contradicts what we know about the culture and about the event. 1. Most girls were married soon/immediately after they began menstruating in the ANE (circa 12 years of age), and since infant and child mortality was so high, the average age of the girls spared would have been around 5 years of age or slightly lower (life expectancy wasnt a straight line, with childhood risks so high). 2. Unlike the Greeks and Romans, the ANE was not very into using slaves/captives for sexual purposes 3. Even if we allow the age range to be older, to include girls capable of bearing children, the probability is that it was not sex-motivated, but population/economics-motivated, as Carol Meyers points out [The Roots of Restriction: Women in Early Israel, Biblical Archaeologist, vol 41): Third, the accusation that the Midianites were singled out for destruction because the Midianites worshiped a deity named Baal Peor is not at all present in the text (actually, NO reason is given in this passage). In fact, the reason for the warfare is explicitly given in 25.16ff as the unprovoked hostility and treachery of Moab/Midian ( The reasons are stated in this passage as (1) hostilities taken by the Midianites; and (2) deception of Israel by them, in the affair of Peor. Nothing at all is said about treating them as enemies because they worshipped a different god So, at least we should see that some of the accusation elements above ...

"Genocide" and the Bible Part 27 Midianites Numbers 31
What about Gods cruelty against the Midianites? The incident recorded in Numbers 31 is frequently mentioned as an illustration of Gods cruelty or His nature as a human fabrication of twisted minds. The passage is a troubling one, for many reasons, but there are many misconceptions about what actually happened in the text as well. Consider some of the statements people have sent into me about this event: Skeptic statement, Throughout time, mankind has been at war with itself. Frequently, these conflicts are over the possession of land, and often use religious decree as reasoning for war. Because of the atrocities prevalent in war, mankind has created rules of engagement to determine punishable war crimes. How ironic is it that these obvious criminal war time acts were not only perpetrated by the children of Israel, but were commanded or condoned by their God. Additionally, allowances were made for the Israelite men to keep attractive female captives for themselves for carnal purposes. These are some serious accusations to make against the God portrayed in the bible, and allegations that should disturb the hearts of all warm-blooded people. Right off the bat, though, there are several obvious historical errors in these brief statements, and several assumptions that have no warrant whatsoever in either the text itself, or in the historical background of the ANE. The passage will be difficult enough to our sensibilities as it is, but lets first weed out the chaff among these ...

MOSES FINDS GOD
It becomes clear in this film where the Judeo-Christian God comes from. Moses marries the daughter of Jethro, the Midianite priest who worships a volcano. In the film it becomes clear Moses is converted to this God. When he pops up to visit God as a burning bush - God, after telling Moses to remove his shoes, suggests he is the God of his ancestors. Which is untrue as he is just the Volcanic God of the Midianites, the God of Abraham was the Mesopotanian God, 'El' as in IsraEL, MichaEL, EmmanuEL. When Moses brings out the Israelites from Egypt he takes them to the Midianite Volcano (Exodus 18). There the Israelites are visited by the priest Jethro who says " Now you know that the Lord is greater than all other gods, for he saved you." Obviously believing like Moses in the existence of many Gods. He then tells Moses how to manage the Israelites: - "Moses' father-in-law replied, (Exodus 18:17 "What you are doing is not good. Listen now to me and I will give you some advice. You must be the people's representative before God. Teach them his decrees and instructions, and show them the way they are to live and how they are to behave. Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said." So the Israelites now follow the Midianite Volcanic God and follow the laws (Deuteronomy) that they received from the Midianite Priest.

FallenAngels Part 1
History of the fallen angels. A few including one girl visiting my channel asking a question why God in Numbers ordered the slaying of the Midianites because it was not "nice". Understanding the history of the fallen angels is part of the answer to her question. Read more: www.jewishencyclopedia.com Moabites Allaince w/ Midianites: Source: www.bible-history.com The Midianites where the children of Keturah and Abraham and dwelt among the Moabites. The Emims(meaning "terrors" in Hebrew) also were living in same region. Emims were a tribe of nephilim which are crossing of human and fallen angelic bloodlines and upon death are "familiar" or evil spirits upon the earth. Some of surrounding nations against Israel had interbred with these "giants" and these fallen angels. This is found in the case of the Philistines also known as Rephaim whom David slew the remaining giants including Goliath. The same were destroyed in the flood in Genesis 6 and their chaining in the bottomless pit(tartaros) is referenced in 2 Peter and Jude also quotes a passage from Enoch.

Conversations with a Crazy Christian: Midianite Slaughter (Episode 1)
In this series I ask a rather extravagant street-side evangelical fundamentalist Christian pointed questions from an atheist perspective. In this premier episode I ask about the Midianite slaughter, ordered by God and committed by the Israelites. See: Numbers 31. Specifically: 17 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. 18 But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves. It seems incredibly harsh, yet I can't get a good explanation of the Midianite crimes! --- Feel free to leave question suggestions for future episodes. Or other ways to get at this fun character!

The Holy Bible - Judges Chapter 6 (King James Version)
Judges Chapter 6: 1And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years. 2And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds. 3And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them; 4And they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass. 5For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it. 6And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD. 7And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites, 8That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage; 9And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land; 10And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose ...
