Hallstatt - Austria HD
[dt.] [en.] Hallstatt a small town in the Salzkammergut is located at the south-western shore of the Hallstätter See in upper Austria. Till the end of the 19.th Century Hallstatt could only be reached by ship or narrow paths. Nevertheless the place has a rich history. First finds date from around 5.000 BC The reason for the early settlement activities and the prosperity lays in the salt mining. The first brine line of the world to the small town Ebensee was built in the 19.th Century. Guided tours to the world´s oldest salt mine are available. The houses of the narrow village are located directly at the lake. Before the road has been built ...

Hallstatt Hallstättersee HD travel video
Hallstatt, Upper Austria is a lakeside village located at the south-western shore of the Hallstätter See in the austrian Salzkammergut region, southeast of Salzburg . The town lies on the national road linking Salzburg and Graz. Salt was a valuable resource, so the region was historically very wealthy. The village also gave its name to the early Iron Age Hallstatt Culture and is a World Heritage Site for Cultural Heritage. Hallstatt is a popular tourist attraction owing to its small-town appeal and can be toured on foot in ten minutes. The Hallstatt culture was the predominant Central European culture from the 8th to 6th centuries BC (European Early Iron Age), developing out of the Urnfield culture of the 12th century BC (Late Bronze Age) and followed in much of Central Europe by the La Tène culture. By the 6th century BC, the Halstatt culture extended for some 1000 km, from the Champagne-Ardenne in the west, through the Upper Rhine and the upper Danube, as far as the Vienna Basin and the Danubian Lowland in the east, from the Main, Bohemia and the Little Carpathians in the north, to the Swiss plateau, the Salzkammergut and to Lower Styria. The culture is commonly linked to Proto-Celtic and Celtic populations in its western zone and with (pre-)Illyrians in its eastern zone. This secluded and utterly captivating landscape counts as one of the first places of human settlement due to the rich sources of natural salt, which have been mined for thousands of years. It is ...

HALLSTATT Austria
Hallstatt is located on the shores of a sleepy Austrian lake Hallstatter See , surrounded by high hills and the Dachstein Mountain Range. Similar to a fjord, Hallstatt Lake extends in front of the picturesque village that was one of the earliest and most unique settlements in this region. Due to the early discovery of large salt deposits in the surrounding mountains, the village has a proud history that dates back a thousand years and archaeology has revealed that this area was inhabited from around 5000 BC Long before Christianity came to Salzkammergut and prior to any churches being built, an independent prehistoric culture evolved. The village contains a rich variety of historic buildings and its churches contain precious works of art such as a Late Gothic altar created by Leonhard Astl. The old marketplace and fountain is crowned by a trinity column that dates back to 1744. The welcoming facades of the dwellings have graced this atmospheric village since the 16th century and the market probably dates back to the 14th century. In 1891, Lake Street played a vital role for the village's busy commercial traffic and the impressive Countryside and Pre-History Museum displays the history of salt mining in the area and its importance to the village. In 1846, the Salinen civil servant, Johann Georg Ramsauer, made a sensational discovery when he discovered a prehistoric burial ground in the village. During 17 years of excavation, a total of 20000 objects were discovered in 980 ...

Hallstatt, Salt Mine, 5Finger Lookout in Austria 2009
Hallstatt, Austria has been occupied since the iron age; 7000 years ago people found the salt mines, which gave them an opportunity to settle an area which they would make into a trade center soon after. This rich cultural history is the basis for Hallstatt's inclusion as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Travelers interested in lakeside archaeology will have a lot to discover. Hallstatt has several museums, the main archaeological museum in Hallstatt center--and you can take archaeological tours of the salt mine.

Hallstatt - Auf den Spuren der Kelten - HD
[dt.] [en.] Hallstatt, a picturesque place in the Salzkammergut in Austria has a long history. In 1846 Johann Georg Ramsauer discovered a large prehistoric cemetery with over 1000 graves on the Salzberg. The settlement traces reach back to the Neolithic. The name Hallstatt Culture, a period of the older Iron Age, goes back to the village of Hallstatt and the archaeological finds. At that time the salt was „the white gold "and made the mine a famous place. Already the Celts exploited salt mine in Hallstatt and the production of salt continue today in the Hallstätter Salzwelten.

Austria Travel: The Salzkammergut: Drive to Hallstatt
My last day in Austria (May 8, 2008) had arrived - or so I thought. Early in the morning I said a sad goodbye to my brother and sister-in-law and started my drive towards the City of Salzburg, from where I was going to fly to London. I drove on the highway through the high mountains of Upper Styria and exited at Liezen to link up with one of Austria's most picturesque areas: the Salzkammergut, also known as the location for many of the scenes from the world famous movie "Sound of Music". I drove past the imposing limestone mountain of Grimming through the village of Bad Aussee to one of Austria's most well-known mountain villages: Hallstatt, settled since pre-historic times, is located on the shores of the lake of the same name and patched against steep mountains that are known for their salt deposits. Salt has been mined here since pre-historic times, and many civilizations have left their traces in this region. Images of Hallstatt are famous throughout the world. I stopped off in the picturesque village of St. Wolfgang, located on another one of the beautiful Alpine lakes that dot the region. Driving past another popular resort town called St. Gilgen I made my way towards Salzburg, Mozart's birth town and one of Austria's most famous tourist destinations. I had about 3 hours to explore Salzburg, so I took a walk in the old city centre and hiked up to the Mönchsberg which features the largest fortress castle in Central Europe, the imposing Castle of Hohensalzburg ...

Hallstatt Train and Boat Ride In HD
Hallstatt, Austria. A small village of about 1000 people. First settled over 7000 years ago as a salt mine in the mountain behind the village was begun and eventually led to great wealth for the area of the years. The houses seem to be built one on top of the other and there's so little room that the cemetery has to be emptied ever 10 years to make room. The removed bones were decorated with names and moved to a special display building.

Hallstatt Bonehouse [Beinhaus], Austria
The small town of Hallstatt, Austria, precariously perching on the side of a mountain provides one of the most gorgeous scenic landscapes anywhere in the World. However, along with the strikingly picturesque view Hallstatt also offers an eerie Bone Chapel [Beinhaus] [Karner] originally built in the 12th century to accommodate for lack of cemetery space and the need to recycle graves by digging up the remains after twenty years and transferring them to the Bone House. The rows and rows of roughly 600 sculls are labeled with names and dates of birth and death and beautifully painted in different styles with ivy, roses, black crosses, flowers and even other things, such as serpents.

Hallstatt, Austria Impression 奥地利哈尔施塔特印象
Hallstatt, Upper Austria is a village in the Salzkammergut, a region in Austria. It is located near the Lake Hallstättersee. The village also gave its name to the early Iron Age Hallstatt culture and is a World Heritage Site for Cultural Heritage. To reach Hallstatt you will first need to catch 2 hours train... from Linz (or any of the station along the way). The train will stop at a small train station located on the eastern side of Lake Hallstatt, and from there you will need to catch a short boat ride across the lake in order to reach Hallstatt village, which is located on the western side of the lake. Nowadays there is a tunnel connecting the village to the outside world by road, but it is still much more interesting to reach there the old fashion way, ie first by train then by boat. It was raining when we visited the place, but it is still no doubt one of the most unique and beautiful places we have visited over the years. Highly recommended.

Hallstatt-Dachstein / Salzkammergut Cultural Landscape (UNESCO/NHK)
Human activity in the magnificent natural landscape of the Salzkammergut began in prehistoric times, with the salt deposits being exploited as early as the 2nd millennium BC. This resource formed the basis of the area's prosperity up to the middle of the 20th century, a prosperity that is reflected in the fine architecture of the town of Hallstatt.
