Economic Collapse Update 081012 Shipping Industry Collapse warns of Global Economic Collapse!
Economists / Politicians / Media personalities keep on quoting GROWTH numbers; for example, they tell us that China will experience 7-8% growth this year. In a 15 Trillion dollar Economy that would equate to almost $100 billion dollars of Economic growth in just one year! However the numbers that matter, such as their power and energy consumption data, and more importantly the shipping data reveal a completely different story! If every nation that matters has been slowing down for the past 5 years, where has this growth been coming from? It is far more logical to conclude that the Global Economy is Receding, is in a RECESSION, it is not growing. The facts on the ground are loudly screaming that the Global Economy is Collapsing not growing! Given the Economic disaster that is Europe, the biggest consumer of Chinese goods, and the disaster that is Japan, with it's manufacturing in the toilet, and the disaster that is the US where the retail sector is nowhere near 2007 levels, how can there have been growth in any Economy? Though the numbers that defy logic may claim there is growth, the numbers that matter such as the Baltic Dry Index which is a measure of the shipping industry reveal that things are getting worse, much worse, not better. The BDI has slid 55% this year alone, and that shows clearly that international trade is grinding to a halt. Shiploads of Chinese goods are no longer making their way to European shores, or to American ones. And the ships that do make it ...

Mississippi River Is Drying Up
FAIR USE NOTICE: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says this past July was the hottest ever for the US since record-keeping began. www.todaysthv.com "It looks like a coastline out there," said Reynold Minsky, president of the 5th Louisiana Levee District board. "There are more beaches on the river than there are in Florida." www.shreveporttimes.com The worst US drought in 50 years is making the mighty Mississippi River dry up and could curb shipping there altogether. www.newser.com The Mississippi river is drying up and some shipping companies are worried that the drought of 1988 may be repeated, a time when the river dried up so much that barge traffic came to a standstill. In 1988 the shipping industry lost $1 billion, a number that would be far higher in 2012 and could be reached in as little as three days. www.inquisitr.com

Iran's complaint against US, EU sanctions
The years now and specially the past few months most of the news about Iran broadcasted by western media has been peppered with words like sanctions, economic strife, nuclear this and nuclear that, all the vocabulary associated with grave concern. The economic, political and even cultural pressure imposed on Iran by the west is under pretext of pressuring it into halting its nuclear energy program. The latest round of sanctions has targeted Iran's banks, energy and shipping industries and since they were imposed all eyes have been on Iran to see what results the pressure will yield. But Iran says the accusations against its nuclear energy program are baseless. To back that claim the International Atomic Energy Agency has not reported any deviations in the program either. The Iranian government's reaction to the sanctions sends the message loud and clear that as before Tehran plans on withstanding the pressure of sanctions. Iran is adamant that the sanctions violate international law and various treaties. Iran's presidential centre for International Legal Affairs is preparing to file a lawsuit against the US and European Union accusing them of imposing sanctions that are not supported by the UN charter. This episode of the program takes a look at Iran's legal case against the West's sanctions imposed on the country. Watch this video on our website: www.presstv.com

Young, and Training for a Good Job -- at Sea
This is the VOA Special English Education Report, from voaspecialenglish.com | http Many new college graduates in the United States have trouble finding a job in the weak economy. But not graduates from the California Maritime Academy. The academy is the only school of its kind on the West Coast. Students attend classes on the university campus in northern California. But they also gain experience by going to sea in a floating classroom, the training ship Golden Bear. Two hundred eighty-eight cadets recently sailed on a two-month international training cruise. The ship travels south to the Panama Canal. Along the way, it visits countries in Central America and the Caribbean.Vasile Tudoran is a mechanical engineering student at the California Maritime Academy. He spends much of his time working deep in the heart of the ship. He says he is not worried about finding a job.Robert Jackson is one of his teachers. He says the majority of the academy's students have between one and two job offers before they complete their studies. He says most of those job offers are between 60 and 120 thousand dollars a year. In addition to working on ships, he says, engineering graduates from the academy also get jobs with power companies and satellite companies. Instructor Bill Schmid says the situation for marine transportation students is not as bright as it was before the economic downturn, but it is recovering. He says most academy graduates are employed in the industry, if they want to ...

Freak Wave (BBC Documentary)
The world's oceans claim on average one ship a week, often in mysterious circumstances. With little evidence to go on, investigators usually point at human error or poor maintenance but an alarming series of disappearances and near-sinkings, including world-class vessels with unblemished track records, has prompted the search for a more sinister cause and renewed belief in a maritime myth: the wall of water. Waves the height of an office block. Waves twice as large as any that ships are designed to ride over. These are not tsunamis or tidal waves, but huge breaking walls of water that come out of the blue. Suspicions these were fact not fiction were roused in 1978, by the cargo ship München. She was a state-of-the-art cargo ship. The December storms predicted when she set out to cross the Atlantic did not concern her German crew. The voyage was perfectly routine until at 3am on 12 December she sent out a garbled mayday message from the mid-Atlantic. Rescue attempts began immediately with over a hundred ships combing the ocean. The ship was never found. She went down with all 27 hands. An exhaustive search found just a few bits of wreckage, including an unlaunched lifeboat that bore a vital clue. It had been stowed 20m above the water line yet one of its attachment pins had twisted as though hit by an extreme force. The Maritime Court concluded that bad weather had caused an unusual event. Other seafarers could not help but consider the possibility of a mythical freak wave ...

This is a personal project that would not have been possible without the support of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Thanks to the entire team for their generous access during training exercises and patrols this Summer. Since the Service began in 1973, it has carried out more than 21,000 missions ranging from urgent patient transfers to dangerous search and rescue missions.
This film is 100% 'real', but there are some new techniques for me here, such as using time lapse to create the illusion of forward movement for the helicopter ocean scenes. These flight sequences would not be possible without the skill and patience of Chief Pilot Peter Yates. Thanks also to Trevor Cracknell (for getting wet!) and Family.

Bangladesh's shipbuilding industry booming
Bangladesh serves as the last port of call for ageing ships throughout the world. But alongside some of the world's biggest ship breakers, there is a boom in shipbuilding in the country. The global economic crisis has meant many shipping companies have cancelled their big orders, so the yards of Bangladesh are building smaller and cheaper ships instead. Al Jazeera's Nicolas Haque reports from the southern port city of Chittagong.

Iran's ship building industry-Iran Today-10-11-2011
www.presstv.com 3000 kilometers of Iran's border meet the sea and since long before Columbus, Iranians have been riding the waves in war and peace time. But in modern times, Iran's ship building is a relatively new industry. The country is battling to acquire the technology and expertise needed to get a foot in the global ship building market, but for now it's an out of pocket endeavor. As an oil rich nation Iran has been obliged, until quite recently, to rely on outside help when it comes to transporting its oil. And offshore oil projects also demand industrial might that Iran has yet to fully develop. So although the bills are mostly flowing in at this point, and returns for Iran's ship building industry are slight, Tehran is supporting its expenditure, with the future in mind. In the last decade Iran has built and launched three ocean liners, so for this edition of the show we flew 1300 kilometers, from the capital to Iran's port town of Bandar Abbass to stand on the deck of one of these sea monsters.

Shipping Slows Down - World
March 2010 No other industry has benefited more from globalisation than the shipping industry. Yet in the wake of the recession, ship owners, shipyards and crews are all finding themselves struggling to survive. We have been stuck here with no food and no gasoline. We cannot send money to our families." Francis is a sailor from Ghana. For months, he has been stranded on a rusty tanker in the port of Las Palmas. When the owners went bankrupt, the crew was left hanging with no means of getting home. Situations like these are common in ports all over the world. A ship usually has several owners; banks, pension funds and private individuals, and everyone washes their hands of it.

Hitman: Absolution - Walkthrough (Part 17) - Mission: Dexter Industries (Dead End)
Hitman: Absolution Walkthrough - PART II - [DEXTER INDUSTRIES] - DEAD END - Old ruined mill. A back door into Dexter Industries. Heavily guarded by factory security. ▪ Infiltration Dexter Industries. They probably employ half of Hope. This town is bought and paid for, and Blake Dexter was only too happy to write the check. Somewhere inside this factory, Victoria is being kept against her will. I need to move fast. ◉ Disable Primary Security System Old mill up ahead. According to Lenny, a rarely used entry point to the factory. The entire facility is protected by two high-end security systems. One primary, one backup. The guard station is a likely place to start. ◉ Disable Backup Security System One down. One to go. The backup security system is likely located at the second guard station. Find and disable. ◉ Locate Mill Entrance Security systems disabled. I shall avoid hostile detection and locate the mill entrance. - OLD MILL - ◉ Evade the Guards Old mill, used by Dexter security as a guard station. Narrow space makes confrontation risky and unpredictable. I must keep a low profile and progress through the mill unnoticed. - DESCENT - Steep cliff facing Dexter industries main compound. Cliffside honeycombed with old mining tunnels. No doubt crawling with factory security. ◉ Descend to the Compound The cliffside seems honeycombed with tunnels. Medium level security. Probably small patrols with light armor and weaponry. Advance and locate ground level exit. - FACTORY ...
