On the way to the himalayan black shaheen
On the way of the himalayan black shaheen in north India. A moulted tiercel over three years and a juvenil falcon. "Shaheen" means in old persian "the shah is this one", that means in fact" this is the king of the falcons." Falconry was mostly practised by muslims and one of the most important hawk market which has today disappeared was in Amristar, the holy town of the Sikhs people near the Pakistanies border. The tradition of falconry is also a traditional Sikh way of hunting. Today, the last falconer in India is M. Osman Khan who has written the wonderful book of "Falconry in the land of the sun" published by Western Sporting USA. I have met Osman Khan and his father Prince Azim in December 1976, for him I will always stay that young guy "thin as a stick", I will be always gratefull for the kindness of his reception with his father and wife during this Christmas time. That is one of my best souvenirs, we were at these good times all youngs and full of energy. Osman Khan is a last descendant of the royal family of Afghanistan and falconry has been his life and the life of all his family. I will advise all the falconers over the world to buy his wonderfull book on falconry "falconry in the land of the sun " The memoirs of an Afgan falconer Published by western sporting USA , and to give him a visit in India. Osman Khan unfortunatly past away today on the 12th of January 2013 ,and I am very sad ,i knew him since 1971 , he was a great friend of Dt Salim Ali the famous ...

Connecting Dots: Prioritizing Communication On Climate Science In The Himalayan Region
In the series of Mountain Voice project the Climate Himalaya team interviewed Dr. David Molden, Director General of International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD, Nepal) and discussed about the climate related issues in Himalayan region and about various scientific communication and policy making processes. Climate Himalaya: Barring exceptions, it is business as usual across the mountains. The prevailing political economy hasn't been as responsive to what techno-scientific arguments on Climate change is all about. Why can't science convince the politics? Dr. David Molden: We might argue that policies and practices have not moved fast enough to keep pace with climate change and other kind of changes, that is a good argument, I believe. I also believe that policy needs to be more responsive, but, on the other hand I also believe that there has been some shifts in the mountains, for example people themselves migrate or try to adapt locally to changing situations. So, I believe for local people it's not business as usual and we need to step-up our efforts to help changes happen. We take IPCC for an example that has definitely made a dent on politics and politicians that is one good example. I do also agree that scientist can be much better and more proactive in communicating the messages across. The first thing is that we have to be good at addressing the right kind of issue, a lot of times science is not addressing right kind of issues. Secondly to make ...

45 Days in the Himalayas - A Time Lapse Film
Imagine living in a tent at 5700M above sea level for weeks on end. Your goal is to ascend the 6th highest mountain in the world. You've recently evacuated your climbing partner who battled pulmonary edema. While trying to stay warm in your little yellow North Face tent, all that you hear is the silence of the Himalayan skies...and the incessant clicking of your DSLR cameras!
'45 Days in the Himalayas' was shot this past October in Nepal and Tibet.

It is difficult for people understand what it is like to shoot high above the clouds in these low oxygen environments until they experience it for themselves.
At 1:57 you can see the climbers attempting the 8201M summit at 3am in sub-zero temperatures. Yes, those little floating lights are people!
In the end, I remained alone with my Sherpa climbing partner and stood on top of the 6th highest mountain on Earth. We were the only one's to make the summit that day. My oxygen bottle failed and I struggled for 7 hours before realizing I had a defective bottle. Relentless, I carried on until we reached the top at 8201M above sea level. Glorious sight of Mt. Everest from the top just 20 km away.

The final timelapse of the setting moon is of the The Nangpa La, a traditional trade route between Tibet and Nepal. My tent was situated across from the pass.

Nepali Trails with Sandman Titanium. First Details
Riding, adventure and surprise in Nepal with Sandman Bikes.
This is the result of the first half of our biking adventure in Nepal.
Special thanks to Mads from Himalayan Trails and my girlfriend Isabel Santolaria. During the expedition I had some problems and there they were helping me with all the changes I had to come across.
Apart from the sponsors, thanks a lot to: Dawa Sherpa for some of the amazing shots in Sinsare Danda Ridge and Dorchi Sherpa for making my bike get to me on time. And, of course, to the porter that helped me carrying the equipment I needed at night to get a good sleep.
