Men making a fishing net in Arunachal
Arunachal Pradesh is a state of India. Located in northeast India, Arunachal Pradesh borders the states of Assam and Nagaland to the south, and shares international borders with Bhutan in the west, Myanmar in the east and the People's Republic of China (PRC) in the north. Itanagar is the capital of the state. Arunachal Pradesh means "land of the dawn-lit mountains". Literally it means "land of the rising sun" (Sanskrit: Arun: Sun, Pradesh: state, province or region) in reference to its position as the easternmost state of India. Like other parts of Northeast India, a majority of the people native to the state are of Tibeto-Burman origin. It is situated between latitude 26° 30' N and 29° 30 ' N and longitude 91° 30' E and 97° 30' E. Itanagar is the capital of Arunachal Pradesh and located at an altitude of 530 meters above MSL. It is named after Itafort meaning fort of bricks built in 14th century A.D.
A large and increasing number of migrants have reached Arunachal Pradesh from many other parts of India, although no reliable population count of the migrant population has been conducted, and percentage estimates of total population accordingly vary widely. Part of the Ledo Burma Road, which was a lifeline to China during World War II, passes through the eastern part of the state. The northern border of Arunachal Pradesh follows the McMahon Line, a border delineated in the Simla Accord that was signed by the United Kingdom and Tibet in 1914 but not by China (since Tibet was not Chinese-controlled at that time). China claims the northern portion of Arunachal Pradesh as part of Tibet.
Arunachal Pradesh attained its statehood on 20th February 1987. It is situated in the North-Eastern part of India with 83743 sq. kms area and has a long international border with Bhutan to the west (160 km), China to the north and north-east (1,080 km) and Myanmar to the east (440 km). It stretches from snow-capped mountains in the north to the plains of Brahmaputra valley in the south. Arunachal is the largest state area-wise in the north-east region, even larger than Assam which is the most populous.

A River's Story - The Quest for the Brahmaputra
A River's Story - The Quest for the Brahmaputra, 'The Quest for the Brahmaputra' is a journey along the course of Brahmaputra, the largest river in India. Originating from Tibet as river Tsang-Po, Brahmaputra travels through the hills and plateaus of Tibet, entering the plains of Assam and finally merges with the Bay of Bengal through Bangladesh. Changing its name six times throughout its journey, the Brahmaputra is equivalent to Navarasa, the nine emotions; sometimes calm and silent, as if in a meditative mood, sometimes destructive like a monster. The film portrays the culture and livelihoods that have flourished along the river. Over half a million people are dependent on the river, which also has religious importance in their lives 'The Quest for the Brahmaputra' is a quest that ends with the silent answer from a fisherman, when asked about their dependence even though the river is so destructive.

Killing the Brahmaputra river & Guwahati city of Assam (India) in installments
Killing the Brahmaputra & Guwahati city silently in installments by building the world's largest dam ( will be completed & fully functional by July 2012) -- Brahmaputra, known as the Tsangpo in China, is a trans-boundary river flowing into China, India and Bangladesh. It originates in the Jima Yangzong glacier near Mount Kailash in Tibet where it is called the Tsangpo Yarlung. From its origin in southwestern Tibet as the Yarlung Tsangpo River, it flows across southern Tibet to break through the Himalayas in great gorges and into Arunachal Pradesh where it is known as Dihang. Construction of a building the world's largest dam, with 26 turbines, expected to generate 40 million kilowatts per hour of hydroelectricity on the Yarlung Zangbo marks a turning point for Tibet & China is likely to complete the work on the dam by July 2012 after which the water will flow through the dam. THE NEW DAM WOULD BE 1.5 TIMES THE SIZE OF THREE GORGES DAM -- CURRENTLY THE WORLD'S BIGGEST. If diversion of the Brahmaputra water by China happened, this could have an adverse ecological impact on his state. The Zangmu hydroelectric power station is being built on the middle reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo (known as the Brahmaputra when it reaches India) between the counties of Sangri and Gyaca. Several well-known Chinese hydropower firms have already made their way into Tibet. The backer of the Zangmu project, the Tibet Generating Company, has already built a residential area on the open spaces alongside the river at Zangmu and a flourishing town is taking shape, with a supermarket better-stocked than those in the county's main town. The Zangmu dam is located in the southern Tibetan county of Gyaca, which has a population of around 17,000. "The economy here is going to be among the fastest-growing in Tibet," said businessman Li Hua, who has already invested in a three-star hotel here a five-store building that is now the tallest in the area.
Reportedly, China had previously denied that they were constructing a dam on the Brahmaputra River, even after the contract was awarded to China's Gezhouba (group) corporation, one of China's biggest engineering and construction companies in April 2009 and it was in April 2010 that Yang Jiechi, Chinese foreign minister, officially revealed the fact about construction of the dam. It has been reported that Indian intelligence agencies have noted some 24 new hydro projects along the Brahmaputra river and its tributaries on the Chinese side. The committee of secretaries under Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar is looking into the issue of diversion of Brahmaputra waters and the hydro-power project at Zangmu, about 540 km upstream from where the Brahmaputra enters India. But Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde says, "I have not been communicated by any quarter that China was constructing a dam on the Brahmaputra. So there is no point to react to it". This shows discordant notes within the government because Krishna has assured Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in response to a letter written to him that China has assured India about how the project at Zangmu would not reduce the flow of water of the river Brahmaputra to the lower reaches. Gogoi has expressed apprehension that the construction of the dam at Zangmu would create problems for Assam. It is high time India and China did a joint study to protect the river instead of competing to exploit and mutilate it in phases. IF BRAHMAPUTRA RIVER DIES THAN GUWAHATI CITY OF ASSAM (INDIA) WILL BE A DEAD CITY IN NO TIME.
ITANAGAR, Feb 29: The Siang (Brahmaputra) river originating in Tibet was suddenly found to have almost dried up at a town in Arunachal Pradesh, a state government spokesman said tonight. People of century-old Pasighat town in East Siang district found that the water level of the river receded so much this evening that it almost dried, The political advisor to Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, expressed apprehension that China could have diverted the water of the river for testing of their new dam, which is known as Yarlong Tsangpo in Tibet. According to latest information available as on 05.03.2012, parts of China are facing severe water crisis, hence it would not be safe to believe China. Unfortunately, India is hardly using the water of Brahmaputra to stake claim under the provisions of the international water user's rights to prevent China from diverting water of the Brahmaputra river. So nothing can stop China from diverting its water. At present China is building 28 dam projects on the Brahmaputra river which may prove disastrous for N. E. India which will dry up the Brahmaputra river during the dry season & it would create havoc during the rainy season. Every year w.e.f. June 2012 Assam will be flooded with water & Majuli island may lose out to nature. During winter season Assam will cry for water as most part of Assam will dry up. Train Crossing the Brahmaputra River at Sunset (Feb. 24, 2013)
A good dose of zoom enabled me to capture a Guwahati-bound train on the Saraighat bridge, though I had to work hard for a steady shot. After the crossing, I decide to focus on a boat crossing the river against the backdrop of the setting sun. This can be seen after the 1.27 mark.

China to construct 3 more dams on Brahmaputra
China has approved construction of three more dams on Brahmaputra river in Tibet in addition to the one being built, and much to the disquiet of India, it has not been informed about the plans so far. A document approved by the Chinese cabinet recently mentioned three dams to be built at Dagu, Jiacha and Jiexu on Brahmaputra, Indian officials in Beijing said.
The document listing projects to be completed in China's 12th five year plan made a passing reference to the three dams without any details, they said. India has not been informed about the move so far, they said. Asked about the plans to build the dams, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Hong Lei told a media briefing in Bejing that "China has always taken a responsible attitude towards the development of cross border rivers".

Brahmaputra river at three different places in Assam - from highest to the lowest downstream
In this video I am trying to show the Brahmaputra River in Assam at three different places, from the highest to the lowest i.e from BURHI DIHING RIVER ( a large tributary of the Brahmaputra in Upper Assam), BRAHMAPUTRA RIVER AT DIBRUGARH TOWN & AT GUWAHATI CITY. Dihing or Burhi Dihing is a large tributary of the Brahmaputra in Upper Assam. The river originates in the Eastern Himalayas (the Patkai Mountain Range) in Arunachal Pradesh and flows through Tinsukia (Tinicukeeya) and Dibrugarh Districts in Assam to its confluence with the Brahmaputra at Dihingmukh. The Dihing has created number of oxbow lakes in the area. The Disam is a tributary of the Dihing in its southern bank. Ledo, Margherita, Digboi, Duliajan and Naharkatia (Nahorkotiya) are the small towns in its valley. Dihing is the one of the most important contributor to the Brahmaputra river. The Brahmaputra (Sanskrit: ब्रह्मपुत्र; Assamese: ব্ৰহ্মপুত্ৰ নদ; Brôhmôputrô), also called Tsangpo-Brahmaputra, is atransboundary river and one of the major rivers of Asia. With its origin from Talung Tso Lake in southwestern Tibet as the Yarlung Tsangpo River, it flows across southern Tibet to break through the Himalayas in great gorges (including the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon) and into Arunachal Pradesh(India) where it is known as Dihang or Siang. It flows southwest through the Assam Valley as Brahmaputra and south through Bangladesh as the Jamuna (not to be mistaken with Yamuna of India). In the vast Ganges Delta it merges with thePadma, the main distributary of the Ganges, then the Meghna, before emptying into the Bay of Bengal.
During this year 2012 the Brahmaputra Dyke is renovated for the safety of Dibrugarh Town & the newly renovated Dyke will be 15 feet wide. New Stone Boulders had already been placed at the old Dyke for renovation as the old Brahmaputra river Dyke is 50 years old & need urgent renovation.
Between Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur districts the river divides into two channels—the northern Kherkutia channel and the southern Brahmaputra channel. The two channels join again about 100 kilometres (62 mi) downstream forming the Majuli island, At Guwahati, near the ancient pilgrimage centre of Hajo, the Brahmaputra cuts through the rocks of the Shillong Plateau, and is at its narrowest at 1 kilometre (1,100 yd) bank-to-bank. Due to the river's narrow width, the Battle of Saraighat was fought here in March 1671. The first rail-cum-road bridge across the Brahmaputra was opened to traffic in April 1962 at Saraighat.
The waters of the River Brahmaputra are shared by China, India, and Bangladesh. In the 1990s and 2000s, there was repeated speculation about China building a dam at the Great Bend, with a view to divert the waters to the north of the country. This was denied by the Chinese government for many years. At the Kathmandu Workshop of Strategic Foresight Group in August 2009 on Water Security in the Himalayan Region, which on a rare occasion brought together leading hydrologists from the Basin countries, the Chinese scientists argued that it was not feasible for China to undertake such a diversion. However on 22 April 2010, China confirmed that it was indeed building the Zangmu Dam on the Brahmaputra.
