First lady of Nigeria; Dame Patience Jonathan is back in Nigeria
Transcript of Mrs Jonathan's interview It is wonderful, first of all seven million people, that show you that wherever there are good ones there must always be a bad one. But amongst the Nigerians, there are only those few that I feel that they might be talking what they feel, not what God has planned. Because God has a plan for all of us and God has said it all that when two or three are gathered in His name, that He will be in their midst and Nigerians has gathered and prayed for me and God is there and answered. And I thank God for that, but the same time, I will use this opportunity to tell those few ones that are saying em' anybody that goes to the villa or Aso Rock that the person will die. They mention Abacha, they mentioned Stella Obasanjo, they mentioned Yar'dua and other people but those people why didn't they mention those ones that went there with their families and succeeded but they still come out alive and God save them, we should remember that Aso Rock is the seat of power.

Thousands displaced by floods in Nigeria
The people in this region are no strangers to rain. But this has been the heaviest rainfall in 40 years. Many blame the government for their suffering and say the authorities were not prepared to evacuate people, provide shelter and other emergency services - despite a warning that there would be major flooding this year. Al Jazeera's Yvonne Ndege reports from Rivers State, Nigeria.

Nigerian Facebook serial killers
The Lagos Command of the Nigerian Police Force on Wednesday paraded two suspects in the murder of Cynthia Akuzogwu Udoka, daughter of a retired General, who they met on Facebook and persuaded her to come to Lagos, from Jos, the Plateau state capital. One of the suspects, Ezekiel Nnechuwu Olisa Eloka, 23, told the police that they killed Cynthia because they believed she had a lot of money. But after taking her life, they did not find any significant amount of cash. Both Eloka and Echezona Nwabufor, confirmed that they met the victim on Facebook and invited her to come to Lagos to buy goods at cheap prices. Cynthia, they claim was their sixth victim.

New smartphone market thrives in Nigeria
The smartphone market is fiercely competitive worldwide. While Apple has been making headlines in Europe and America, Research in Motion, the company behind Blackberry, is looking elsewhere. In Nigeria, there are four million people using smartphones, and half of those phones are BlackBerry's. In the next four years, that number is expected to hit 25 million. Nigeria's problem is leadership -- Ekeh
A legal practitioner and public affairs commentator, George Ekeh on Monday said the major problem Nigeria is faced with is that of committed and selfless leaders. Analysing the Independence Day speech of President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Ekeh said the 1 October speeches of successive Nigerian presidents is becoming a ritual with a disconnect from the reality on ground in the country. Mr Ekeh, who was a guest on Channels Television's breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, said the solution to the problem of leadership in Nigeria should start from electoral reforms.

Nigerian sex workers in Larissa, Greece.
Nigerian girls appeared on the streets of Athens during the Olympic Games of 2004. They never left. Nobody knew where they came from, nor did anybody care.
Most of them arrived transiting through Italy and France.
The EU’s invisible borders have made it easy for traffickers to move girls around. And Nigeria has its own powerful –and highly lucrative– criminal ring. Although it may cost 1000 Euros to transport girls to their destination cities, the latter will be forced to pay back their traffickers up to 80,000 Euros. And girls are kept from rebelling by the strong hold of voodoo oaths –and threats to their families.
Larissa is a city with a population of 200.000. It lies between the two major cities of Greece, Athens and Thessaloniki.
It is a major agricultural centre and a national transportation hub.
I met Sonia, a 22 years old Nigerian, back in 2008. At that time she used to work as a prostitute in the streets of Athens for 15-30 Euros per customer.
She had no passport or any residence permit. She had to run when the police was raiding the historical centre of Athens, where she usually worked, because as she used to say: I’ m double illegal.
The last two years a series of town-planning projects aimed at revamping the city’s run-down historic center. Athens’s Mayor stressed that thriving crime in the area – including the trade in drugs and prostitution – posed a risk to public health and safety.
As a result of that, ‘cleaning up’ operations by the police took place. The illegal immigrants were targeted.
It’ s been extremely difficult for the Nigerians to work in the streets since then.
Many girls were deported back to their countries and others had to look for work outside the capital city.
Sonia along with two other Nigerian women, Valentina and Amanda, decided to look for work in the city of Larissa.
Girls were told that police checks were not so strict in the countryside. They also knew some other Nigerians that had been working already in Larissa.
A cheap hotel in the city centre of Larissa is where Sonia stays. She shares a room with two more Nigerian girls. Twenty more girls are spread in other rooms of the same building.
I spent three days with them, trying to reveal through their daily life and their habits, some aspects of their personality.
I intentionally avoided following them at the bars where they work because I didn’t want the cliché photo approach of sex workers with customers, etc.
I gave them a voice, through the video recording, to explain how they came to Greece at first place as well as talking about their past life (Valentina with her children’s dvd from London).
Sonia insisted, as the other girls too, that they work without a pimp and that not all the girls are victims of trafficking.
They said that they were told and they believed that Europe was a promised land; where you can one way or another make a fortune easily.
Following them during their daytime walks in Larissa and sharing some of their free time with them in the hotel some conclusions were obvious: The girls lead a life apart, like most of the migrant workers, not having integrated at all in the local society. They spend most of their time watching Nigerian TV series and listening to African music.
Greeks in the countryside are not used to see a lot of black people. Their being aware of the fact that the African girls are in their hometown to work as prostitutes makes them behave in a funny way, mostly by staring at them persistently.
They live a ‘normal’ life, mainly listening to music, watching TV, cooking, shopping.
Their dream is to get married with a local Greek. This would allow them stop working at the bars as well as having the opportunity of becoming legal.

Nigeria's questionable new banknote
Nigeria's new 5000-naira banknote, worth five times as much as the previous largest, has earned scorn from money changers well aware than at least 100 million citizens earn less than 160 naira per day. Likewise, economists question how the introduction of a new note dovetails with government plans to begin making Nigeria a cashless society next year. But the central bank says the country's booming economy and middle class, in addition to bank costs for handling so many small notes, make the new 5000-naira bill a good idea. Yvonne Ndege reports from Lagos.

Port Harcourt Killings: There is no security in Nigeria - Mother of Chiadika Biringa
According to Mrs. Chinwe Biringa, Chiadika's mother the police claimed that they were at the scene of the incident but couldn't stop the perpetrators from going ahead with their dastard acts because they were overwhelmed by the crowd. She said if the police wanted to do their jobs, they would because to her there is no security in the country at all as Nigerians are living by the Grace of God all around the country as such can happen to anyone, anywhere. And to buttress her fact, she gave an account of how the JTF dispersed the crowd with gunshots to get access to the scene of the incident before they dead bodies were taken away.
