Western Cape province Finance, Economic Development with Alan Winde
(www.abndigital.com) The Garden Route is sometimes called 'the Riviera of Africa' for its beauty and attraction to the fabulously wealthy, but in truth many of the Western Cape's poorest people are struggling to eke out a living in the region during these tough economic times. Joining us now from Cape Town is Alan Winde, provincial minister for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism in South Africa's Western Cape province.

The Overberg in South Africa's Western Cape Province
On the way from the Cape to the Overberg. A mountain range lies inbetween, the Hottentots Holland Mountains. In the olden days it was difficult to get "OVER THE BERG". But nowadays the Overberg can easily be reached via the Sir Lowry's Pass, completed in 1830. Once arrived on top, the scenery changes. In front of us lies a high plateau, softly ondulating. With endless wheat fields and pastures with sheep and cattle. We are in the Overberg. The main attraction for visitors however: a magnificent coastline - with quiet bays and coves and wide sandy beaches. Cape Agulhas, southernmost point of Africa, is also part of the Overberg coast. A juwel is the seaside resort of Arniston with the quaint fishermen's hamlet of Kassiesbaai. Early in the morning the fishermen launch their colourful boats. In the afternoon they return from the sea with their catches, always a fascinating event. Next to the village: The Waenhuiskrans Nature Reserve with its huge sanddunes - ideal for coastal walks. Most popular town on the Overberg Coast is Hermanus, the "whale capital of the world". Every year between July and November hundreds of Southern Right Whales enter the calm waters of Walker Bay for breeding. The Whale Crier of Hermanus blows his kelp horn, when whales have been sighted. Then everybody looks out onto the sea. What makes Hermanus and the neighboring village of De Kelders so special: The marine mammals come within a few metres of the cliffs and can be watched at close range.

INSPIRE Northern Cape HD
This Short Documentary will give you an insight into the INSPIRE Programme implemented by the Northern Cape Provincial Government. The role of information society development is critical to both economic and social development in both South Africa as well as globally. The ability of a country to effectively integrate itself into the global economy depends on how well it develops its capacity to handle, absorb and utilise information technology. Improved access to information also has an impact on the awareness, education, and social and cultural development of the public. In South Africa there is a need for technology development and also for well defined regional information society development strategies, capacity building and human resource development. In 2001 a cooperation agreement between South Africa and Finland was established. Emanating from the President's State of the Nation Address, the PNC on ISAD was formed. The PNC on ISAD has developed a National Information Society and Development (ISAD) Framework which has been approved by National Cabinet. This framework will guide the provinces in developing their provincial information society strategies and development models. The PNC on ISAD selected Limpopo and Northern-Cape provinces as early adopters for Information Society Development. The Finnish government committed itself to assist Limpopo and Northern-Cape provinces with the development and implementation of the provincial information society strategies and ...

Cape Wools SA - The Story of Wool
South Africa is a vast and beautiful country with a rich history of sheep and wool farming. This long history has established woolgrowers who have a keen appreciation of how to care for their animals and the environment. As a result, the industry consistently generates a high quality, environmentally sound product for international markets. The first Merino sheep arrived at the Cape in 1789, and the sheep and wool industry on a commercial basis was soon established. During the whole of its colonial period, the Cape province remained the most important wool producing area in Southern Africa and although the sheep industry subsequently spread rapidly throughout virtually the whole of the country, 'Cape Wool' has become the international generic trade term for all wool produced on the sub-continent. www.capewools.co.za Tel: +27 41 4844301
