Absurdism
This was a Research project done on Absurdism, Albert Camus, his book the Myth of Sisyphus, and mentions some common themes of Existentialism. The original length is 11 and a half minutes. The full video, written research paper, and credits to original sources for images should be posted on my professor's site opensourcebuddism.org relatively soon. The music tracks are from the sound track of the video game Poison Pink. Composer's of that soundtrack are Takashi Okamoto,Keiko Tasaka, Yuki Nakagawa, Yuta Okamoto, Kazuma Katagiri, Yuichiro Sato, and Junko Kuzumaki. I do not have access to which tracks I used, so I do not know which composers deserve the credit.

The Absurdist Hero Stands
A short film written, directed and edited by Nuru Rimington Mkali. This is the first film to be completed collaboratively by the DOGDAY committee. CREDITS: The Absurdist Hero: Boris Furlong The Narrator: David Furlong Camera: Damien Bent Sound Recordist: Aurora Shannon Lighting: Mahdi Mozaffari Script Translation: Christine Martin Music: Chris Norton and Pete Haslam Produced by: ...but is it meat? films SYNOPOSIS: The Absurdist Hero awoke to a day much like any other. The days that pass like bowling balls through molasses, and depression through the minds of men. Seconds counted away by the beating of your heart, and minutes tallied by the smoking of cigarettes. But something had to give. And finally, finally, it has. What a life to lead, where the closest thing to excitement is a mental breakdown. Or is it something more? Something...beautiful?

A lesson in Absurdist Theatre
Northern Arizona University Theatre presents The Bald Soprano and The Lesson. I talked to the cast of both shows about what this play has to do with real life, and what it was like to work on such a strange show. Theatre of the absurd can be frustrating to understand so I also had a chance to sit down with the award winning playwright, Tina Howe, to talk about theatre of the absurd, and what aspiring playwrights can expect in the real world of theatre. The shows are an... interesting and... bizarre... experience, and would be difficult for me to explain, so **go see them yourself!**

What made Albert Camus an Absurdist
For IB English p,3. A video investigation as to how WWII might have prompted Albert Camus to become an absurdist. The main point I took away from absurdism was not that life was ridiculous or humorous, but that the end result was all the same, death and nothingness. Thus absurdism shows that life is a joke because it tricks humans into believing there is something more. Albert Camus, as an absurdist, still believed life was worth living, however, simply for the beauty that could be found in it. As with all philosophies and beliefs, whether or not you agree with it, it can be noted that there are some valid ideas - take time to enjoy the beauty of life instead of fussing over the unknown. Note: I do not support or endorse absurdism, this video and the comments are merely an intellectual foray into how one of the foremost absurdist authors came into his views. The statements in the film regarding WWII were found on wikipedia, and not meant to be offensive. Some statements (not the statistics) are exaggerated in order to show how depressed Camus might have become over the war (all speculation). The clips used are from the Italian film adaption of the stranger and various clips of occupied France during WWII. The song is a cover of Dust in the Wind by Madeline Siano. The haiku is not original, but I do not currently have knowledge of its source. The video was created by Elissa Niccum. Thanks for watching,

Jello Puddin: An absurdist film
This is a symbolic film I made for my Time Studio class with Eric McMaster. Spoiler Alert! I'm going to explain my thoughts in making this... . . . So when I blindfold myself and ride my bike, it's supposed to be like I'm going on this journey through life without really analyzing or understanding where I am going... It's a struggle that I accept without question. As the film progresses, the sounds and stress of people "squawking like birds" makes me frustrated to the point where I seek answers, so I take the blindfold off, only to realize I am back where I started. This causes the struggle to be meaningless, and therefore the search for meaning (taking the blindfold off) absurd. This causes me confusion, as a serious of non sequitur confuses the viewer. There is no meaning behind these clips, and yet the viewer tries to find meaning in them. This act that takes place with the viewer causes an instance of absurdity that reflects how I see things. Finally, I accept the absurdity and go back to enjoy life for it's meaningless. Only this time, I am unblindfolded, with open eyes to see there is no meaning in the struggle.

Absurdism and Chinese Buddhism
by Ian Gilderson through Professor Rev. Dr. James Kenneth Powell II, opensourcebuddhism.org This piece investigates the philosophical premise that "life is absurd" and compares that with the sometimes whimsical approach of Chan Buddhism. Though both traditions see the humor in our existence, it is Chan Buddhism that seeks a soteriology or salvation from pain and ignorance.

Teaching Tips : Absurdism in Drama
Absurdism in drama is identified in meaningless dialogue, a fantasy setting and a chaotic group of characters that usually don't relate to one another. Identify absurdism in a play, keeping in mind that it follows an idea rather than a storyline, with tips from an educator in this free video on general education. Expert: Laura Turner Bio: Laura Turner received her BA in English from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., graduating magna cum laude with honors. Her plays have been seen and heard from Alaska to Tennessee. Filmmaker: Todd Green

Zimoun : Sound Sculptures & Installations, Sound Architectrues
Compilation Video V.2.9 / Last update: December 4, 2011
Using simple and functional components, Zimoun builds architecturally-minded platforms of sound. Exploring mechanical rhythm and flow in prepared systems, his installations incorporate commonplace industrial objects. In an obsessive display of simple and functional materials, these works articulate a tension between the orderly patterns of Modernism and the chaotic forces of life. Carrying an emotional depth, the acoustic hum of natural phenomena in Zimoun's minimalist constructions effortlessly reverberates.

«The sound sculptures and installations of Zimoun are graceful, mechanized works of playful poetry, their structural simplicity opens like an industrial bloom to reveal a complex and intricate series of relationships, an ongoing interplay between the «artificial» and the «organic». It‘s an artistic research of simple and elegant systems to generate and study complex behaviors in sound and motion. Zimoun creates sound pieces from basic components, often using multiples of the same prepared mechanical elements to examine the creation and degeneration of patterns.» Tim Beck
«Zimoun is best compared to a watchmaker of a self-reproducing time constructing his own gauging station.» Radjo Monk
«The clean, elegant sound sculptures combine visual, sonic, and spatial elements in an organically balanced entirely artwork. Using simple and well- conceived mechanical systems, Zimouns‘s work transforms and activates the space.» Jury Prix Ars Electronica 2010
«Zimoun creates complex kinetic sound sculptures by arranging industrially produced parts according to seemingly simple rules. Using motors, wires, ventilators, etc.., he creates closed systems that develop their own behavior and rules similarly to artificial creatures. Once running, they are left to themselves and go through an indeterminable process of (de)generation.
These quasi autonomous creatures exist in an absolutely synthetic sphere of lifeless matter. However, within the precise, determinist systems creative categorioes suddenly reappear, such as deviation, refusal and transcience out of which complex patterns of behavior evolve.» Node10
«It is a poetic and humorous absurdity we find in Zimoun’s work, which opens up a wide, refreshing and enriching space for discoveries, associations and a multitude of approaches.» Nina Terry
«The components used in Zimoun’s work are simple, functional and raw, whereas only aesthetically high-level and purposefully chosen elements and materials are used in minimalist fashion. Through radical reduction, Zimoun creates works of art which allow for a plethora of associations without being pinned down to a specific direction. Radical abstraction functions rather like a code in the background of things, thus elegantly avoiding an insinuation of direct, concrete attribution. Thanks to the abundance of mechanical activity, the range of perception, possibilities and interpretations is wide open.» Amanda Neumann
«Indeed, one of the refreshing elements of this work is the immediacy with which one can understand the sound-making process, where each micro-event is present, visible, and concrete. Yet at the same time the resulting complexity of the total system, conjured before your eyes, defies any attempt to dissect it. You might find yourself feeling there is a «prime mover» at work behind the scenes, but in fact it is just the characteristic reaction of materials behaving together and in unison with the space of their activity. A magic of the real.» Xymara

///A Film directed and animated by MUSCLEBEAVER///
This animation we did was planned and animated for the prologue of a documentary.
(That explains the absurd, unfinished seeming, ending. That is where the actual documentary starts.... )
The briefing was to show an evolution of computer games.
The documentary itself is about different people, based here in germany, showing their everyday life, and their addiction to the same specific, famous MMORPG (massive multiplayer online role playing game):"Wo.."
Every game character in this prologue was reinterpreted, redrawn (...one pixel at a time), and animated frame by frame.

The idea is based on a technique called tilt-shift, combined with time-lapse (developed by Keith Loutit). It makes reality appear as a miniature model moving with a stop-motion flow. The thought is to create a visually interesting expression that give the audience something out of the ordinary, while at the same time providing a good overview of events. We would shoot from a high angle using specially developed lenses with a short depth of field. The fact that the world appears to be miniature makes the viewer think ”is it for real or not”. It is hard to tear your eyes from the images, something that works well for our purpose.
A gigantic hand will appear in the middle of events helping the workers to get the house ready for summer. It will light the barbeque with a magnifying glass for example. The idea is to create a visually absurd situation using displacement of scale between the people in frame and the giant hand. It is meant to underline the contrast of small and big, where the hand symbolizes the consumers ability to effect the environment and in the extension his or her own environment. Through time-lapse we’ll reinforce the ”before and after” scenario as you’ll be able to see small changes appear quickly. The film will start in a winter worn backyard and in 30 seconds evolve to a wonderful summer barbeque.

This was was a first attempt at some fight choreography and is more of a ""behind the scenes" but we got distracted and somehow turned it into a comedy so we went along with it. Yes i'm aware the sounds aren't realistic and the hits are dramatic, there is no plot or structured characters and it's only edited roughly but it was just for laughs, hope you enjoy! :) Enjoyed what you saw?
