Mystery Surrounds Death of Explorer Meriwether Lewis 200 Years Later
American explorer Meriwether Lewis is best known for his efforts in the early 1800s to chart the Louisiana Purchase territory. His expedition with William Clark paved the way for the westward expansion of the United States. After the journey, President Thomas Jefferson appointed Lewis as Governor of the Louisiana Territory. While on a trip from St. Louis to Washington DC in 1809, Lewis died under circumstances that, to this day some 200 years later, remain a mystery. VOA's Kane Farabaugh has more from Tennessee.

Meriwether Lewis: Bringing Sexy Back
A tribute to Captain Meriwether Lewis. Soldier, explorer, scientist, patriot, and leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition; Meriwether Lewis simply rocks! Any man that can safely lead 30-40 men to the Pacific Ocean and back through rough terrain, Indians, harsh winters, near starvation, disease, and sheer physical exhaustion has my seal of approval. Bozeman Airport Medallions - Meriwether Lewis Today
I was asked by Jim Dolan, a Bozman Montana Artist, who creates welded sculptures (www.jimdolanart.com to help with a project he's doing for the Bozeman Airport. I'm doing 6 medallions of Lewis and Clark, Sacajawea, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and Albert Gallatine. Merriwether Lewis, and William clark, along with Sacajawea, made up the "Corps of Discovery Expedition" (1804--1806). It was the first transcontinental expedition to the Pacific Coast by the United States. Commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson. Their objects were both scientific and commercial -- to study the area's plants, animal life, and geography, and to discover how the region could be exploited economically. Part of that expedition was to find the headwaters of the Missouri River. Three rivers formed the headwaters of the Missouri River and they were named after President Jefferson, Madison, and Gallatin in July of 1805. Those headwaters are just 45 miles north of where I live. It's kinda cool.

Untold - A song about Meriwether Lewis
This video was created as a culminating project by Laura B. a Conserve Semester School student during the fall of 2011 (CS 3). The song gives insights into the silent struggles of Meriwether Lewis. Here are the lyrics: Untold Seldom few know the truth Behind stories of heroes and journeys To places unknown Merely figures in history humanity lost Known for triumphs Their actions alone One man stands out, the rest Of the best seem to pale when compared To this explorer late Famed conqueror of vast open plains, Rocky mountains, and rivers Where we'd search for our fates Darkness lurked in the back of his mind Terrorizing what light he could find Day after day, he would carry this weight As it threatened to consume him Joy was found when this troubled young man Had a purpose, a focus Existence worthwhile Thirst for knowledge, desire to prove himself Led his mind west Out into the wild Darkness lurked in the back of his mind Terrorizing what light he could find Day after day, he would carry this weight As it threatened to consume him There he found enough beauty, adventure, Connections it'd seem He'd found peace from his illness But even with assignment to write From his most valued friend His quill often was still Darkness lurked in the back of his mind Terrorizing what light he could find Day after day, he would carry this weight As it threatened to consume him Once triumphant, this shell of a man Lost his way once returned His desires ignored From rejection to high ...

#42 I Was Named After Meriwether Lewis - Boaz Power TV
____ boazpower.com ____(September 2, 2002) When I was in college at the University of Tulsa, in 1968, I was hired as a disc jockey at KRMG Radio, a popular 50000-watt top-40 radio station. It was housed on the 23rd floor of Liberty Towers, an apartment complex overlooking the Arkansas River. I hosted an evening program from 6 to 8 pm called The Quiet Zone beautiful music to segue from a busy day. The program director of the station at the time was Chuck Adams. In addition to his programming duties, he was the incredibly popular morning drive time disc jockey. When Chuck hired me he stated that the name Boaz Rauchwerger just wouldnt do on his station - too difficult, too foreign. For some reason, the Lewis and Clark expedition came to his mind. I know, he said. Well name you after Meriwether Lewis of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. So, I became David Lewis. I guess Chuck figured my tenure at the station would be an expedition. Lets fast-forward 34 years. The name Meriwether Lewis came back into my mind in 2002 when I saw the incredible National Geographic IMAX documentary, The Lewis and Clark Expedition. It was playing at the Reuben H. Fleet Space Theatre in San Diegos beautiful Balboa Park. The IMAX image is ten times larger than the conventional 35mm frame and three times bigger than the standard 70mm frame. The sheer size of an IMAX film frame, combined with the unique IMAX projection technology, is the key to the extraordinary sharpness and clarity of an IMAX film ...
