MAKNA Getting to know Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the lungs, producing a growth called a tumour. Cancerous tumours, called malignant tumours, can spread to invade and damage nearby tissues and organs. Eventually, it may spread through the lymph channels or bloodstream to form new tumors in other parts of the body. Presently, lung cancer is the second cause of cancer deaths in Malaysia. In fact, 95% of lung cancer patients die within 5 years of diagnosis. 90% of lung cancer is a result of cigarette smoking. The occurrence of lung cancer is also high among non-smokers who are exposed to second-hand smoke. Tobacco smoke contains some 4000 different chemicals, of which many are extremely damaging to cells. Over time, these cells can turn cancerous. The more a person smokes, the higher the risk of getting cancer - not just lung cancer, but mouth, throat, esophagus, larynx, bladder, kidney, cervical or pancreatic cancer. There is also increasing evidence that second-hand smoke contributes to lung cancer in non-smokers. Workers who are exposed to high levels of radon, a radioactive gas, also have an increased risk of developing lung cancer. Other occupational exposures that have been associated with lung cancer include processing of steel, nickel, chrome, coal gas and asbestos. Lung cancer usually does not have any symptoms when it first develops. Doctors sometimes only discover lung cancer after an individual has a chest X-ray for another medical reason. The most ...

Girl with lung cancer gets married 5 days before dying
Katie Kirkpatrick's story is a powerful reminder that we can still find joy in the midst of suffering tragedy by focusing on and celebrating the present moment. On Valentine's Day, 2002, Katie Kirkpatrick, then a freshman at Rochester College (a small Christian college in Rochester Hills, Michigan), was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Undaunted, Katie strove to keep up with her studies, but she suffered another setback in 2003 when she was diagnosed with an inoperable lung tumor wrapped around her pulmonary artery. Nonetheless, in 2004 the resilient Katie took part in champion cyclist Lance Armstrong's Ride for the Roses cancer fundraiser. On January 15, 2005, twenty-one-year-old Katie—the girl "with a contagious smile and unrelenting optimism" who had been battling cancer for three years—married twenty-three-year-old Lapeer County sheriff's deputy Nick Goodwin, her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, at Church of Christ in Hazel Park, Michigan. Photos were taken by Romain Blanquart. Background music: Marry Me by Train P/s: I don't know who has made this video clip, but I think I should share it to everyone.

While this is very personal and hard for me, I wanted to post it. My dad went from a strong healthy man, to this in a matter of months after a short fight against lung cancer. If you smoke, I KNOW first hand how hard it is to quit, but you dont want to go through this, or have your loved ones watch you go through it.

An NHS Choices guide to lung cancer (sign language)
Get help now to stop smoking: www.nhs.uk This sign language video provides an overview of lung cancer, including causes, symptoms and prevention. Please note: there is no audio track featured in this video. What is lung cancer? Lung cancer is one of the most common and serious types of cancer. The lungs are a pair of sponge-shaped organs in the centre of the chest. They have two main purposes: to transfer oxygen into the blood when you breathe in to expel carbon dioxide out of the blood when you breathe out Cancer that begins in the lungs is known as primary lung cancer. Cancer that begins in another part of the body before spreading to the lungs is known as secondary lung cancer. We will be focusing on primary lung cancer information. How common is lung cancer? Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in England and Wales, with an estimated 31000 new cases diagnosed every year. Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer-related death in both men and women. During 2007, there were 29660 deaths in England and Wales due to lung cancer. Lung cancer primarily affects older people. Cases are rare in people who are under 40 years old, but the rates of lung cancer rise sharply with age. The most common age range that lung cancer is diagnosed is 70-74. What are the symptoms of lung cancer? The most common initial symptoms of lung cancer include: a persistent cough, a sudden change in a cough that you have had for a long time, unexplained weight loss, breathlessness, chest ...

euronews science - Spanish doctors take aim at Lung cancer
www.euronews.com The Catalan Institute of Oncology in Barcelona, Spain has recently presented the results of a new technique for treating lung cancer, one of the most widespread cancers, especially in men. It is ultra- precise radiotherapy, able to target a very high dose of radiation with maximum accuracy even in very small lung tumors, without damaging the surrounding healthy tissues. The main advantage of this technique is that is synchronized with the breath. The lung is normally very difficult to treat with radiotherapy because it moves when breathing. "First of all, we have the advantage that the patient is not operated on. And then, instead of seven weeks continuously, the treatment is done in a few, short sessions, and it is over at the most in two weeks," says the head of Oncology at Bellvitige hospital, Dr. Ferran Guedea. Scientists plan to use this technique in patients that cannot be treated surgically, because of their age or the increased risk caused by other pathologies. "In the past, only 30 percent of the patients treated with conventional techniques gained an extra 2 years. Now we obtain a 70-80 percent survival rate," says Dr. Arturo Navarro. The new technique has already been tested in more than 70 patients since 2008 and the results seem encouraging. "When they told him that he had this illness, then the doctor got to work, and well.... now it is as if he never had anything," said one delighted wife who had feared she was about to lose her husband ...

Secondhand Smoke and Lung Cancer
I just wanted to share some recent research on the topic of second hand smoke and lung cancer in people who have never smoked. It was a topic of interest to me at AACR and I had a chance to meet one of the authors of the 2009 paper. Int J Cancer. 2004 Mar;109(1):125-31. Secondhand smoke exposure in adulthood and risk of lung cancer among never smokers: a pooled analysis of two large studies. onlinelibrary.wiley.com Clin Cancer Res. 2009 Sep 15;15(18):5626-45. Lung cancer in never smokers: clinical epidemiology and environmental risk factors. clincancerres.aacrjournals.org or www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov There's an error in the video. I refer to one of the papers (CCR) as being published in 2011, when it was actually published in 2009. The author's manuscript was published online in 2011, two years after the print version.

Faber Drive - G-Get Up and Dance
At age fourteen, Faber’s dad bought him a drum kit which Faber promised to practice on every day. “Coming from a family of seven kids, this was a huge deal,” he remembers, “seeing as how my dad could barely even afford to feed us.” Faber may not have kept his promise, but that’s because he put down the drum sticks to become frontman and founding member of Faber Drive, one of Canada’s hottest young bands. After beating out more than 500 other artists from across Canada to take first place in a radio competition, Faber Drive started opening for notable acts such as Nickelback, Simple Plan and Hedley. With the release of their pop-punk infused debut album Seven Second Surgery, Faber Drive hit #1 on Much Music, saw 3 top 10 radio singles and was nominated for the Juno award for Best New Artist in 2008.
However, the Faber Drive that appears on its sophomore album can'T keEp A SecrEt is a band that has progressed beyond the Juno nominees of 2008. Where Seven Second Surgery laid the ground work for the Vancouver-based band’s career, can'T keEp A SecrEt now builds and evolves, deftly bringing bright colors, edgy tones, and more emotion into the fold and crossing the borders between Faber Drive’s punk rock roots into electro-pop mixed with epic balladry.
“We wanted to take a risk with can’T keEp A SecrEt and move forward without forgetting our original sound or our dedicated fans,” explains bassist Krikit. “We wanted to write songs that would stand the test of time, and we wanted to have more control and coproduce with several different producers.” To that end, can'T keEp A SecrEt is a who’s who of the Vancouver music biz A-game, including Dave Genn (Matthew Good/Hedley/Marianas Trench), Dave “Rave” Ogilvie (Marilyn Manson/Nine Inch Nails), Brian Howes (Daughtry/Hinder/Hedley) and the insurgent likes of Josh Ramsay (Marianas Trench), Colin “Crocker” Friesen, and Jeff Johnson.
Faber comments, “We don’t have a lot of ego. There’s a lot more that you and I can accomplish together than I can do alone. If you look at all the greats, its all about working together; Lennon and McCartney, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Bono and the Edge.”
Still Faber Drive is guilty of undue modesty. can'T keEp A SecrEt is bonded by the coherent force of a band ambitious enough to challenge itself and possessing the confidence and poise to actually pull it off. The first single “G-Get Up and Dance” was written and produced by the band in Faber’s barn, with Rave brought in as a coproducer and mixer in the final stages, helping launch the song to a platinum-selling iTunes grand slam in only 2 months.
On the opposite pole, album closer “By Your Side” is both beautiful and melancholy, beneath a vocal performance from Faber that hits you like a punch in the gut. “It’s a little hard for me to listen to sometimes,” reveals the singer, who penned the song late one night while thinking about his father, who passed in 1995 of stomach and lung cancer. “It’s basically about how someone important in your life will always be a part of you, even once they’ve left this world.” Producer Dave Genn heard the demo and immediately fell in love, while also manning the boards for two somewhat more rambunctious numbers:
“Never Coming Down,” barreling into view on a thumping backbeat and keening U2 guitars, with a chorus of amped-up whoa-ohs. “When you’re young, you don’t really have a place to go,” Krikit comments on the lyrical content, “You get your license and you end up driving around all the time. That’s your freedom and that’s your place to go.”
And “Our Last Goodbye”, the perfect pop punk throwdown, which cites the influence of old favorites like touring partners MxPx, and Green Day -- who also happen to turn up in album opener “The Payoff”, referenced alongside Oprah, Queen, and Rick James. Faber is quick to admit that FD gets a little “goofy behind closed doors”, and “The Payoff” somehow walks the line between tongue-in-cheek and triumph, celebrating the band’s success with an irresistible sing along pop-rock anthem.
Faber was also in a nostalgic mood when he hacked out the song “Forever,” composing the number as he pulled the graveyard shift on a cross Canada tour with Simple Plan. When band decided to record two songs with Josh Ramsay, the resident Marianas Trench songwriter they chose “Forever,” and the second single from can’T keEp A SecrEt, “Give Him Up.” “Give Him Up” is doused in super-fat bass synths and galloping percussion and takes some lyrical direction from American Hi-Fi’s “Flavor of the Week.”
“Usually what happens is you’re writing a song and it reminds you of another song, so you draw on that for inspiration,” Faber admits. Likewise, the Jeff Johnson-helmed “I’ll Be There” derives its message from Bill Withers’ classic “Lean On Me.” “We wa

Sacred Marriage 3: Becoming a God-Centered Spouse
Introduce Sermon with Video of Couple running to each other.
Marriage Was Designed By God To Please Him
God uses our marriage and spouse to conform us to the likeness of Jesus Christ
God uses our marriage to energize and give purpose to our lives and ministry
Marriage Is Two Stumbling Sinners Becoming Holy
Marriage Is Two Stumbling Sinners Falling Toward God
Psalms 94:18 (NCV) I said, "I am about to fall," but, Lord, your love kept me safe.
Proverbs 30:18-19 (NCV) "There are three things that are too hard for me, really four I don't understand: the way an eagle flies in the sky, the way a snake slides over a rock, the way a ship sails on the sea, and the way a man and a woman fall in love.
Helen Rowland states: “When a girl marries, she exchanges the attentions of all the other men she knew for the inattention of just one man.”
I remember the first time I ever laid eyes on Lydia. I was in charge of a freshman reception and was chatting with the incoming freshmen. It was outside, late August, and I was naturally checking out the incoming girls. I turned around and noticed this shy gal with the sweetest smile and expression. I went over to talk with her and her friends, but there was just something about her that grabbed my heart. She had the sweetest spirit of any girl I had ever met.
Well, it wasn’t but a couple months and we were engaged, and marriage came within nine months of our meeting. (Just a coincidence)
We were flying back from our honeymoon and this guy next to me asked if my trip was business or pleasure. I said pleasure, I’m on my honeymoon. He looked at me, mystified, and said, where’s your wife? I said, a couple rows back, cuz they couldn’t get our seats together. We were still at the gate and he said, I’ll be happy to change seats. I said, “Naw, that’s ok, we’ve been together all week”
Hopefully you can remember those days when you excitedly ran to meet your future wife or husband. You may have even met them at the door wrapped in Saran Wrap, or with a sexy nightie. But soon those days melt away to kids and diapers and headaches. If you’re lucky the kids still come to the door to excitedly greet you. But after they get older, hopefully your dog comes and greets you, wagging his tale. But once he gets too old, you are pretty much on your own.
Studies show that married couples spend an average of just 27 minutes a week actively communicating.
I’m not talking about, Honey, what do you want for dinner? You respond “Ugh” They say OK. That doesn’t count.
These same studies show that most couples talk the most the year before a divorce.
Most of us fall in love, and if we are not careful, we let trials, selfishness, neglect, anger, problems lead us to fall out of love.
This morning, we need to see how it’s ok to stumble, it’s ok to fight, it ok to have struggles in your marriage, as long as you are falling the right way. Falls are inevitable, but we can take some steps that will enable us to control the direction we fall.
Like on the trail ride that you take down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. You don’t ride a horse, because when they get spooked they leap forward. You ride mules, which are sure-footed and always back up when they are spooked. They don’t go over the ledge.
Just as Lydia and I fell in love rather quickly, the danger is always there that we fall out of love. We learned that love is not a passive emotion. God intends us to actively engage in love, to be purposeful with our love, just as God actively uses marriage to accomplish His purpose for our lives.
God wants our marriage to be much more than polite “civil” arrangements. He wants us to be dynamically involved with Him in allowing this marriage to make us more like Jesus Christ.
If you have stopped moving toward your spouse, you have stopped moving toward God. The opposite of agape love isn’t hate, it is apathy. If you are not purposefully moving toward your spouse, you do not love your spouse. To make matters worse, if you have stopped moving toward your spouse, you do not love God.
DIFFICULT FOR MEN
THIS ACTIVE MOVING TOWARD YOUR SPOUSE IS MORE DIFFICULT FOR MEN.
1. Men Are Less Communicative
a. We think warm and fuzzy thoughts about our wife
b. We have trouble expressing those thoughts
c. Men do not realize the damage they do by simply staying quiet
2. Men View Independence As Sign Of Strength And Maturity
a. We must be willing to stand alone
b. God is always moving toward people
c. To flee relationship is an act of cowardice
i. Easier to get someone young
ii. Maturing relationship challenges his authority and power
iii. We sulk when we don’t get our way.
iv. We can’t take the “give and take” of a real relationship, so we pour ourselves into our work and play.
God calls men to centrally move toward your wife. This moving toward your wife is what will mold you into the image of Christ.

EGFR for Lung Cancer in Kolkata: Suraksha Diagnostics
EGFR for lung cancer in Kolkata? www.surakshanet.com Lung cancer begins when cells in the lung change and grow uncontrollably to form a mass called a tumor. Tumor can be benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous). EGFR ie Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor is a protein on the surface of cells that is found on cancer cells. EGFR test is actually mutation analysis to detect whether tumor contains mutated EGFR. Growth signals enter the cell via EGFR and are turned into growth commands by KRAS and BRAF (KRAS and BRAF are proteins). Mutated EGFR causes increased activities of EGFR followed by EGFR signaling resulting in cell proliferation, tumor growth and inhibition of cell death. EGFR-targeted drugs block growth signals from EGFR. Without the growth signal, KRAS and BRAF can't produce growth commands. This can help stop or slow tumor growth. However mutations can cause KRAS and BRAF to produce growth commands independent of EGFR. Hence patients with mutations in KRAS and BRAF will not respond to anti-EGFR therapies. This kind of targeted therapy increases (a) Time to recurrence (TTR) (b) Progression free survival (PFS) (c) Overall survival (OS) and decreases (a) Death rate (b) Morbidity and mortality. Suraksha Diagnostic is the only lab in the eastern part of India where you can get EGFR, KRAS and BRAF tests done under one roof. Suraksha is just a call away.
