U.S. state Georgia Senate uses 'East Sea' name in resolution
The U.S. state of Georgia has taken a meaningful step toward calling the body of water between Korea and Japan "East Sea." The Georgia state Senate unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday in which it refers to the water by the Korean name "East Sea," not the Japanese name of "Sea of Japan." The non-binding resolution was put forward by Republican state Senator David Shafer. This comes as the U.S. state of Virginia awaits its lower house's decision on whether or not to require public schools in Virginia to call the water BOTH the "East Sea" and the "Sea of Japan." Korea argues the name "Sea of Japan" reflects Japan's imperialistic past and that at the very least, both names should be used.- published: 29 Jan 2014

Matt Laughridge for Georgia State Senate - Values FULL Interview
Matt Laughridge for Georgia State Senate - Values FULL Interview
Fellow Conservatives, As a local business owner, dozens of working families count on me each week. I know what good jobs mean to our citizens, and their ability to provide for their families and secure the future of their children. Economic development and job creation will always be the primary focus of my public service to you. In order to create jobs, we must improve the essential elements of our infrastructure providing businesses the means to grow and succeed. We must reward innovation and creativity, encouraging businesses to invest in Georgia. A well-educated workforce is one of the primary concerns of businesses looking to relocate. This is why I will be a strong advocate supporting and improving public education. We must prepare our children for the challenges, opportunities and jobs of the future. We must also provide our teachers with the tools they need to teach. Students learn in different ways, but they all can learn, and we should not require teachers to teach the test or to standards dictated by others, and we must have more local control. I will lead the fight to cut wasteful spending, unnecessary regulations and red tape. Transparency and accountability should become the new normal, and I will champion the cause. When I graduated from college, I returned because I knew right here was where I belonged. As your next state senator, I will work hard every day to accomplish these goals, and my door will always be open to you. I ask for your support and your vote on December 3rd!- published: 21 Nov 2013
