To most foreigners, Serbia's second largest city - Novi Sad is synonymous with one thing and one thing only, the annual Exit Festival. While Exit is undoubtedly one of Europe's foremost music events - both in terms of the level and diversity of the artists it attracts, as well as its truly unique venue at Petrovaradin Fortress - the city and surrounding area have more to offer than arguably anywhere else in Serbia or even the wider region. Novi Sad's position at one of the continent's true crossroads and history as a multinational commercial and transit centre has left it endowed with historical and cultural sights that even much larger cities have difficulty matching. It is located in the southern part of Pannonian Plain, on the border of the Bačka and Srem regions, on the banks of the Danube river and Danube-Tisa-Danube Canal, facing the northern slopes of Fruška Gora mountain. The name Novi Sad means "New Plantation" (noun) in Serbian. Its Latin name, stemming from establishment of city rights, is "Neoplanta". The official names of Novi Sad used by the local administration are: Serbian: Нови Сад (Novi Sad), Hungarian: Újvidék, Slovak: Nový Sad, Rusyn: Нови Сад (transliterated: Novi Sad) During the city's long history, it has maintained its multi-cultural identity, with Serbs, Hungarians and Germans being the main ethnic groups. Today, Novi Sad is an industrial and financial centre of the Serbian economy, as well as a major cultural hub.

Great Stuff is very proud to welcome the 1605 techno master UMEK for a proper single release. With this track the Slovenian DJ/producer produced a tribute to the city of Novi Sad, Balkan's capital of electronic music and Serbian home of the legendary EXIT festival. One of Europe's biggest open-air festivals started as a fuck-you to then repressive regime. Similar to Woodstock, the roots of Exit lie in pacifism and anti-establishemt movements. Later on the festival became an annual event, attended by young people from all over the world and hosting some of world's biggest artists such as Carl Cox, David Guetta, Massive Attack, Fatboy Slim, Moby and of course Umek :) With the help of Italian and Dutch techno heros Uto Karem and Anton Pieete and their remixes, this release should do damage until EXT 2011.

Novi Sad (Serbian Cyrillic: Нови Сад) is the second largest city in Serbia, the administrative seat of the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina, and the administrative center of the South Bačka District. The urban area of Novi Sad has a population of 221854, while its municipal area has a population of 335701. It is located in the southern part of Pannonian Plain, on the border of the Bačka and Srem regions, on the banks of the Danube river and Danube-Tisa-Danube Canal, facing the northern slopes of Fruška Gora mountain. The city was founded in 1694, when Serb merchants formed a colony across the Danube from the Petrovaradin fortress, a Habsburg strategic military post. In the 18th and 19th centuries, it became an important trading and manufacturing centre, as well as a centre of Serbian culture of that period, earning the nickname Serbian Athens.The city was heavily devastated in the 1848 Revolution, but it was subsequently restored. Today, Novi Sad is an industrial and financial centre of the Serbian economy, as well as a major cultural hub.

"Paesaggio Composto (Composed Landscape) #3" is the third version of a video series born in 2008. "Paesaggio Composto" is a game of the view. It moves in a landscape that changes continuously, that reveals new looks, that regenerates new points of view.
VIDEO: "Paesaggio Composto #3" is created compositing 70-80 analogic photographs and moved in a tridimensional space with After Effects.
PHOTOGRAPHS: they belong to my collection of urban and natural landscape pictures. They are taken in Barcelona, Bilbao, San Sebastian, Berlin, Warsaw, Lerici, Florence, Rome, Perugia, Gubbio and Marina di Camerota. I used a Holga with 120 slide film. I modified them with Photoshop.
SOUND: This is the first time I use sounds in "Paesaggio Composto". Normally I show the video as a window, as a pure image. I manipulated real urban and natural sounds.
DURATION: 5'51". The video is a loop.
For Vimeo users is recommended to choose the loop option on the player.

Last week we had unseen problems with the Danube being frozen. Ice blocks created a lot of damage to all the rafts and boats on the banks.
Airworx crew saw this as a good opportunity to test out our new oktokopter as well as capture a rare glimpse of a harsh, but beautiful winter that we were lucky enough to experience in Novi Sad, Serbia. Enjoy!
