Busting is a 1974 film directed by Peter Hyams, starring Elliott Gould and Robert Blake as Los Angeles police detectives.
The film is episodic, depicting the two detectives teaming on several different cases, with varying degrees of success. The main focus of the movie centers on them trying to bust one main criminal, an LA crime king-pin named "Rizzo" (Allen Garfield).
The film is extremely cynical, strongly implying that crime does pay ... and that the biggest criminals in society are corrupt politicians and businessmen who will never be punished for their crimes. The film ends with an unusual soundtrack flash-forward. While we see Gould attempting to arrest a powerful figure who will ultimately walk free, we also hear something which hasn't happened yet: Gould's character quitting the police force and applying for a civilian job.
Busting is similar to the movie Freebie and the Bean, although the latter was more comedic, and was actually delayed in release so as not to specifically compete with Busting. Busting did not do as well at the box office as the later Freebie and the Bean, arguably due to its harder, more cynical style / tone.

[Chorus:]
If this Life has anything to gain at all
I count it lost if I can't hear you, feel you, 'cause I need you.
Can't Walk this Earth Alone.
I recognize I am not my own, so before I fall
I need to hear you, feel you, as I live to make my boasting you alone.
[Verse 1:]
With every breath I take, with every heart beat,
Sunrise and the moon lights in the dark street.
Every glance, every dance, every note of a song.
It's all a gift undeserved that I shouldn't have known.
Every day that I lie, every moment I covet
I'm deserving to die, I'm just earning your judgment.
I, without the cross there's only condemnation.
If Jesus wasn't executed there's no celebration.
So in times that are good, in times that are bad
For any times that I've had it all I will be glad.
And I will boast in the cross. I boast in my pains.
I will boast in the sonshine, boast in his reign.
What's my life if it's not praising you.
Another dollar in my bank account of vain pursuit. I do.
That count my life as any value or presence at all.
Let me finish my race, let me answer my call.
[Chorus]
[Verse 2:]
Tomorrow's never promised, but it is we swear.
Think we holding our own, just a fist full of air.
God has never been obligated to give us life.
If we fall for our rights, we be in hell tonight.
Mere sinners own nothing but a fierce hand.
We never loved him we pushed away his pierced hands.
I rejected his love, grace, kindness, and mercy.
Dying of thirst, yet, willing to die thirsty.
Eternally worthy, how could I live for less?
Patiently you turn my heart away from selfishness.
I volunteer for your sanctifying surgery.
I know the spirits purging me of everything that's hurting me.
Remove the vale from my darkened eyes.
So now every morning I open your word and see the Son rise.
I hope in nothin, boast in nothin, only in your suffering.
I live to show your glory, dying to tell your story.
[Chorus]
[Bridge:]
Glory was solely meant for you.
Doing what no one else could do.
With All I have to give, (With all I have to Give)
I'll use my life, I'll use my lips. (My Lips Yaaa)
I'll only glory in your Word. What gift to me I don't deserve.
I'll live in such a way that it reflects to you, my Praise.
Start with your fingers
They finger the change
That carries me home in our evening
You're bee stung there...
Press your palm to your snow-coated thought cage
That carries me over your thinking
You're bee stung there...
Between the tall buildings
Are snow-coated alleys
Between us is nothing but grace
Snow rides the wind down
And drives past the window
Falling all over your face
I fly out the window
And then ride the wind down
You fit me into my place
You're bee stung here...
Start with your eyes
When they eye me in twilight
Picking up pieces of mine
Tie me up with the twine in you eyelight
String me from heaven to time
You bee stung me...
Between the tall buildings
Are snow-coated alleys
Between us is nothing but grace
Help me up when you hear me behind you
Falling all over the place
If you're not busy being born, you must be busy dying
Standing up is hard to do when you live a life of lying
If you're not being born, you must be busy dying
Learn to stand up on your own, it's time you best start trying
If you're not busy being born, you must be busy dying
When the truth knocks at your door, your consequence is crying
If you're not being born, you must be busy dying
When the truth done got you down, then get on with your dying
Dying
Dying
Dying
Crippled sunshine dogleg blues and all dogs have their day
Sing old tunes and wash these blues it's calm beneath these waves
Mor important how we take our fate than what it is...
How we live
Busy Dying
Busy Dying
All this time I watch you die
I let you down you waste my time
??????????????????
??????????????????
Don't you wanna drink the wine you'll find it dying on the vine
I don't know they say you never die,
I don't know they say you never die,
Kiss me just like a bee sting.
Kiss me just like a bee sting.
I don't know they say you never die,
I couldn't help but notice
The reasons you gave before you left
They seemed all out of focus
A stammering attempt to cause a death
Blood red lips were beestung
I couldn't help but notice
You'd talk behind your hands and play it down
Their time ran out in August
Inebriated groupings on the ground
Blood red lips were beestung
Cleavage set to burst
Kiss with mouths half open
Don't think that you're the first
Drunk just past concussion
Their judgement was so blurred it seemed ok
The subject of discussion
It was going to end up like this anyway
With a screen come siren
Cleavage set to burst
Kiss with mouths half open
Smother her with lust
Blood red lips were beestung
Cleavage set to burst
Silken skin was scented
Don't think that you're the first
Couldn't help but notice
The reasons before you left
Fall from a flat and special height
And it's alright, alright
Land on my feet and walk destructive lines
And it's alright, alright
This might be the first time I've said these things all
out of line
It holds my tongue but keeps in time
It's like a beesting to keep you inside
You should know that sweetness of the sting to need you
I keep the need to your bleed your light
It's like a beesting to keep you inside
On the bottom, but I have found my path to climb
And it's alright, alright
And your all that I have felt in a very long time
And it's alright, alright
This might be the first time I've said these things all
out of line
It holds my tongue but keeps in time
It's like a beesting to keep you inside
You should know that sweetness of the sting to need you
I keep the need to your bleed your light
It's like a beesting to keep you inside
Time will know, time will know
Something ‘bout the way you look
Just like an open book,
I know there’s venom in your veins
And then when you attack, I keep on coming back,
Like I’m addicted to the pain
It’s a little attraction,
a deadly reaction,
I know this poisin is part of your game.
CHORUS:
Oooh your like a bee sting to the brain,
Got me once, got me twice, now here we go again
Ho ho hooo your just a toxin I can’t drink
Your like a bee sting to the brain.
Your like a drug I crave,it keeps me high for days,
It clouds my judgement and my mind…
Bu then when I come down, I’m seein’ clearer now,
But I start itchin’ for your time
Once an infection now lethal injection,
Now I’m getting weaker I’m seeing the signs,
CHORUS:
Sure to grasp spinning head, think I’m not staright,
Swellin’ up and turnin’ red, will I be the same?
CHORUS:
Oooh your like a bee sting to the brain,
Got me once, got me twice, now here we go again
Ho ho hooo your just a toxin I can’t drink
Your like a bee sting to the brain.
You get to do as you please
Why is my life for you to tease
I'm trying to cut this chord
Trust is a luxury I can't afford
Thank you for making me feel my pain
Opening my eyes to see I'm truly insane
I breathe out while all breathe in
Is your beginning my end
If I'm the monster waiting to be
It doesn't give you free integrity
I stay up late at night thinking
About what you said
What right do you have to play
With my head
I try hard not to hear your voice
Same room, no choice
Another chance to fail
Is wisdom just another name for hell
I still hear the words you speak
Enter the shadow of the weak
Uncertain, the blur in my eyes
I search the truth, it's all lies
