Nevertheless both her determination and her shapely figure impress Sal Satori, the organizer, so much that he gives her a job as a carnival dancer. He becomes her friend and, before long, her great love. However, being a hootchie-kootchie dancer is not Jeanne's dream: she wants to be an actress. That is why Jeanne takes advantage of the Satori company being in New York to consult a renowned drama teacher, Mrs. Neilson. The latter thinks she CAN act and she is proved right since the audience of the first play Jeanne is in responds favorably. But Jeanne will only feel wholly satisfied when she acquires star status. She soon obtains the part which will lead her to stardom by stealing it from Elsie Desmond, an aging actress who planned a comeback through it. In desperation, Elsie commits suicide. Although feeling somewhat guilty, Jeanne openly relishes her triumph, which upsets her companion who does not understand her attitude. Sal ends up leaving her, a commotion she will never get over. She starts drinking and taking drugs and begins a slow descent into hell...

40th Giro del Trentino Melinda: Astana's sports director Slongo before stage-3
Astana Pro Team's
Sports Director Paolo Slongo comments the stage-2 results: "
Apart from
Fuglsang, all the team came from a three-week training camp and we were looking forward a feedback.
Actually, Fugslang himself could be considered our leader here, even if Scarponi and
Nibali can still pursue the overall win"

With fellow Soviet émigré,

Quadraphonic Sound'.
The resulting 'stereo recording' served as the base, the narrative and the driving force for Victor's cinematic idea to show a day in the life of Israel, the country which was just going through a healing process, nursing the wounds inflicted by one of the recent threats to its existence -- the
Yom Kippur War.
With almost no budget Victor, his
Director of Photography Valery Galperin and I,
Production Assistant, criss-crossed Israel over eleven long days and nights.
At the time (
1975), I was at the very beginning of my professional career, and honoured to be trusted to work alongside much more experienced colleagues.
During the filming, all three of us lived together, at a large, but rather dilapidated, flat in Tel-Aviv.
The first shoot was planned near
Azor, just outside Tel-Aviv, at a graveyard for the damaged
Soviet tanks and armoured personnel cars, captured during the
Yom-Kippur War. For this shoot I was charged with the task... of bringing a saucer, which, in accordance with the long-established tradition, Victor wanted to break 'for good luck'.
Unfortunately, I grabbed the first available plate, which I saw at our kitchen -- unbreakable Pyrex...
As, much to my chagrin, Victor was unsuccessfully trying to break it, I realised that my cinema career was about to finish before it even started
. In the unbearable heat of the
Israeli khamsin, cold sweat ran down my spine...
'
Let's have one last go', I meekly suggested to Victor. We joined our hands and together threw the saucer against the body of the Soviet tank. The tank did withstand our assault; the plate did not. The very next second we were showered with hundreds of tiny glass shards, as the saucer had finally met its fate hitting the rusting armoured body of the military trophy.
At that moment, even before the camera started rolling, I realised that this was going to be one of my life's favourite movies...
