Capitol Records Story (1952) 10th Anniversary LP with song clips (Dave Dexter, Jr. narr.)
The special 10-inch anniversary LP “Capitol Cavalcade” was an entertaining 30-minute review of Capitol Records’ first decade, briefly covering the label’s 1942 formation by Johnny Mercer (with the assistance of Glenn Wallichs and Buddy DeSylva) but devoted mostly to introducing and playing audio clips of Capitol’s most popular hit singles. The label’s A&R; chief Dave Dexter, Jr. narrates.
Artists sampled include Mercer himself, Nat Cole, Kay Starr, Stan Kenton, Jo Stafford, Ella Mae Morse, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Margaret Whiting, Pee Wee Hunt, Betty Hutton, Tex Williams, Peggy Lee, Les Paul & Mary Ford, Freddie Slack, the Pied Pipers, and others.
