KMBC-TV (virtual channel 9) is a television station affiliated with the ABC television network, located in Kansas City, Missouri. KMBC-TV is owned by Hearst Television and its studios are located on Winchester Ave. near Swope Park in Kansas City, Missouri. The station's 343 metres (1,125 ft) high guyed mast broadcast tower built in 1988 is at 5701 E. 22nd Street in eastern Kansas City on a hill above the Blue River.

The station broadcasts its digital signal on UHF channel 29, mapping to its former analog channel assignment of 9 via PSIP. On cable, KMBC can be seen in standard definition on channel 12 on Time Warner Cable and Surewest, and in high definition on channel 1012 on Time Warner and digital channel 610 on Surewest. It also serves as an alternate ABC affiliate for St. Joseph, available over-the-air in most of the market and on local satellite providers and select cable systems such as Suddenlink; this is despite the presence of KQTV (channel 2), which is the market's official ABC affiliate and is carried alongside KMBC on some cable systems in the market.

Jay McShann (January 12, 1916 – December 7, 2006) was an American Grammy Award-nominated jump blues, mainstream jazz, and swing bandleader, pianist and singer.

During the 1940s, McShann was at the forefront of blues and hard bop jazz musicians mainly from Kansas City. He assembled his own big band, with musicians that included some of the most influential artists of their time, including Charlie Parker, Bernard Anderson, Ben Webster and Walter Brown. His kind of music became known as "the Kansas City sound"

McShann died on December 7, 2006, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City. Jay McShann was survived by his companion of more than 30 years, Thelma Adams (known as Marianne McShann), and three daughters - Linda McShann Gerber, Jayne McShann Lewis, and Pam McShann.

Nicknamed Hootie, McShann was born James Columbus McShann in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Musically, his education came from Earl Hines' late-night broadcasts from Chicago's Grand Terrace Cafe: "When 'Fatha' [Hines] went off the air, I went to bed". He began working as a professional musician in 1931, performing around Tulsa, Oklahoma and neighboring Arkansas.

Larry Maceo Moore (born June 1, 1975 in San Diego, California) is an American football player in the National Football League who currently is a free agent. Moore was a two-year starter at Brigham Young University earning first team All-WAC honors as a junior and senior. In 1997, he spent time with the Washington Redskins and the Seattle Seahawks. He then played for the Indianapolis Colts before returning to the Redskins. He became Washington's starting center in 2002 in all 16 games, replacing Cory Raymer. But in 2003, he started only 8 of 16 games. Then he 2004 he lost his starting job to the man he previously replaced, Cory Raymer.
