Where Does Grounded Electricity Actually Go?
Grounding is one of the most confusing and misunderstood aspects of the grid.
Errata:
At 10:40, the meter is set to resistance (not voltage). Since current is constant, it is also an indication of differences in voltage, but the script should have been a little clearer.
Current doesn’t flow to the ground; it flows through the ground and back up. If there is electricity moving into the ground from an energized conductor, go back to the source of that conductor and see what’s happening. For the grid, it’s probably a transformer or electrical generator, in either case, a simple coil of wire. And, the electrical current flowing out of the coil has to be equal to the electrical current flowing into it, whether that current is coming from one of the other phases, a neutral line, or an electrod...

Earthing Systems vs Electrical Grounding - Difference between Earthing and Grounding
Earthing Systems vs Electrical Grounding - Difference between Earthing and Grounding
Earthing vs Grounding - Difference between Earthing and Grounding
One of the most misunderstood and confused concept is difference between Grounding and Earthing.
There is no major difference between earthing and Grounding, both means Connecting an electrical circuit or device to the Earth. This serves various purposes like to drain away unwanted currents, to provide a reference voltage for circuits needing one, to lead lightning away from delicate equipment. Even though there is a micro difference between Grounding and Earthing.

=============================
In this video, we’re going to discuss the commonly used, but often misunderstood term, Ground.
There are lots of different names for Ground…
There’s Earth, Earth Ground, Neutral, Common Ground, Analog Ground, Digital Ground, and Instrument Ground… just to name a few. And then you have terms like Ground Loops…
Quite often, Ground means different things to different people. For example, Ground to an electrician might mean something different than Ground to electronic engineers.
There are lots of reasons for grounding.
Proper grounding is a critical safety measure in all electrical systems and installations.
We ground the exposed part of electrical equipment so that internal wiring failures don’t raise the voltage potential of these exposed parts to dangerous levels.
Let’s look at some of the different perceptions of the ground.
It’s probably safe to say that Earth and Earth Ground are the same things.
Earth ground is the reference point in an electrical circuit that is a direct and physical connection to the earth. Earth Ground is the ground that you walk on.
Earth Ground is true zero volts. It is the true zero reference for any and every electricity discussion.
You don’t have to go far to see evidence of earth ground.
You might be able to spot a copper rod in the ground with a heavy wire attached to it.
This Earth Ground wire runs to your power panel and ultimately connects to all the Ground terminals of every receptacle in your house.
Notice that we’ve used an electrical symbol for Earth Ground.
The symbols used to indicate ground terminals are found in the International Electrotechnical Commission document IEC 60417 Graphical Symbols for Use on Equipment.
Symbol 5017 is the symbol for Earth Ground.
Every electrical circuit needs to be complete for the current to flow. In many applications, the common ground becomes the return path. For example, your car chassis is a common ground for the return current to the battery’s negative terminal.
Sometimes you’ll see the Earth Ground symbol used incorrectly on electronic schematics. The intention is to symbolize a Common Ground and it may not be connected to Earth Ground.
If ground points are not connected to Earth Ground but are connected to a Common Ground, it would be more appropriate to use the symbol IEC 60417 5020. This symbol suggests the points are connected to a frame or chassis terminal.
This brings up an interesting question…
Are all the components at the common ground potential connected at one point on the frame or chassis, or are they connected to the chassis at multiple locations?
Unfortunately, the schematic does not provide that answer. The schematic does not provide any clue as to physical connections. Industrial schematic drawings will indicate ground points and often provide more detail but physical connection points are still a mystery.
This brings us to a term called Ground Loops.
A Ground Loop is an unwanted electrical current path that can cause havoc in equipment or process control systems by introducing unwanted electrical noise.
These undesired Ground Loops are created when two supposedly connected points are not at the same electrical potential. That’s when Ohm’s Law takes over and creates an electrical current flow between two points.
Ground loops can be avoided if all devices are grounded together at one point. This type of grounded is referred to as Star Point grounding.
Unfortunately, in large industrial plants, multiple-point grounding is the reality, and the possibility of ground loops is high.
With so many connections referenced to the ground within a facility, the chances of needing more than one ground point are great.

The previous version of this video had an error in it that was too big to fix with an annotation, and so it was removed, fixed, enhanced and reuploaded. The error was a silly one on my part where I had the fault go to ground, silly because I should have realized that wasn't what happens since I knew about the ground being connected to the neutral bar in the breaker panel. A big thanks to all who brought it up in the comments to the previous version.
Thanks to Matthias Wandel (https://www.youtube.com/user/Matthiaswandel) for allowing me to photograph his breaker panel and thanks to Todd Harrison (https://www.youtube.com/user/toddrharrison) for checking over this new version of the video before I released it.

In this video you will learn what is electrical earthing, how to earth control panel and electrical motor etc. What are benefits of earthing and what will be result if you don’t earth any control panel, we will show with animations and videos any body with little background of electronics or electrical will be easily able to understand these concepts after watching this. You will see videos from industry how electrical earthing is in practical for control panels and motors. There is big surprise if you watch this video till the end.
Lets start with what is Electrical earthing.
To connect the metallic Parts of an Electric appliance or installations such as electrical control panels or electrical motors to the earth (ground) is called Earthing or Grounding.
Earthing can be said as the connection of the neutral point of a power supply system to the earth so as to avoid or minimize danger during discharge of electrical energy
To understand why it’s important lets understand it with simple example.
Normally we got three wires of power connections in any control panel i.e. Hot, natural and ground. Let’s suppose if hot (Live) wire of control panel gets damage and it will touch the metal case of control panel. Case is now connected to hot wire. Now if any field worker touches panel, he will get get strong electrical shock. This is because current have path that’s via human body to ground

Now if you got another arrangement, where ground wire is connected to electrical control panel case. Ground wire will offer very low resistance path to flow of current, current will flow from panel to ground via earth wire instead of human body which have more resistance compare to ground wire. Please note current always flow to least resistance path ,as we connect live(hot) wire via breaker, In such cases current will increase due to least resistance on that path and it trip the breaker that will discounted power. Now if field engineer or tech touches such panel, he will be protected as human body have more resistance as compare to other path of offered by ground wire.
