Qualcomm Investing $120 Million in Sharp
Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) announcing it will be making an investment in Sharp Corp. of about $120 million in a deal to utilize both company's resources. Sharp said Tuesday that both companies will be working together to develop next-generation displays that will compete in the commercial market. The deal would help the struggling Aquos television maker, who issued a warning last month about its ability to keep operating after forecasting a record 450 billion yen loss for the year through March. With the investment, Qualcomm will most likely become Sharp's biggest shareholder with an over 2.5% stake in the company and help the company stay afloat for a little while longer.

Japanese Companies Suspend Operation in China amid Anti-Japan Protest
Several Japanese businesses have shut down their plants and stores in China this week in the wake of the widespread protests since the weekend. Canon suspended operation at three of its four plants on Monday. Panasonic also followed the same course, shutting down three plants in Guangdong province after its plant in Qingdao was set on fire by anti-Japan protesters on Saturday. Japanese apparel retailer, Uniqlo, closes 19 outlets around the country on Tuesday. It had already closed seven stores on Monday. In addition to the temporary operations shut down, the escalating tension over the Diaoyu, or Senkaku Islands also affected business plans. Japanese electronics maker Sharp Corp. had planned a large-scale celebration to commemorate its 100th anniversary on September 8th in Shanghai, but senior executives called a stop to those plans. The territorial dispute between China and Japan puts at risk billions of dollars in investments. It could also hurt trade ties, causing mutual disruption for Asia's two largest economies. What to Watch: December 4, 2012
From Fnno.com, this is the Financial News Network. Here's a few things to watch for in the financial world today December 4. Darden Restaurants (NYSE:DRI) lower in early trading Tuesday after missing on their recent earnings guidance for the second quarter. The restaurant conglomerate, owner of chains like Olive Garden and Red Lobster, said it now sees earnings in the range of 26 to 27 cents per share, well below the 47 cents analysts were expecting. Chairman and CEO Clarence Otis says these disappointing results show the company needs a different approach when promoting their brands and will make necessary changes going into the end of the year. Some of the obstacles that have prevented better earnings guidance include a 5 cent negative impact due to closing costs after the purchase of Yard House, USA and a 1 cent negative impact from Hurricane Sandy. What's In The News: January 8, 2013
From Fnno.com, This is the financial news network. Here's what's in the news for Tuesday January 8, 2013. The Wall Street Journal reports India proposed major curbs on the import of technology products ranging from laptops to Wi-Fi devices to computer-network equipment. The proposed regulations would create a "Buy India" mandate requiring a large percentage of tech goods sold in the country to be manufactured there. The Wall Street Journal also reports Japanese car companies (TM, NSANY, HMC) are regaining their confidence in the Chinese market, setting strong growth targets for 2013 after last year's sales were disrupted by cross-border tensions. Reuters reports Sharp Corp. (PINK:SHCAY) is considering new ways to shore up its finances but is not talking with Intel Corp. (NASDAQ:INTC) now about any investment, according to a senior Sharp executive. Finally, Bloomberg reports GM (NYSE:GM) will likely maintain its position in the US after its market share fell to the lowest since 1924. GM may end this year with a 17.9% US market share, in line with where it finished 2012, according to a survey of five analysts by Bloomberg.
