Baltimore Orioles pitcher Wei Yen Chen confirmed that he will not represent Taiwan in the World Baseball Classic as he prepared for his second MLB season.
Wei Yen Chen, Baltimore Orioles:
"I learned a lot of lessons during my first year and I gained a lot of experiences last season. I hope these experiences will help me and I hope it will be a really good year for the Orioles and for me."
Wei Yen Chen, Baltimore Orioles:
"Firstly, I want to help the team win. I also want to lower my earned run average and extend my innings, pitch more innings. Of course I want to get more wins and less losses. And I just want to get healthy this year."
Wei Yen Chen, Baltimore Orioles:
"No I'm not going to play in the World Baseball Classic. It was a really hard decision for me because I really want to help the Taiwanese team. But in the last few years I started to feel soreness on my knee late in the season. This is my second spring training so I have really try to get strong in my preparation and prepare hard for the start of the season."

ValleyCats 6, Lake Monsters 0
Burlington, VT -- Recently signed rookie Preston Tucker belted his first professional home run and drove in five runs Friday night to lead the Tri-City ValleyCats to a 6-0 win over Vermont at Centennial Field.
Tucker was a 7th round draft pick of the Houston Astros out of the University of Florida last month.
Tri-City righthander Aaron West, a 17th rounder from the University of Washington, pitched seven innings of two hit baseball. He didn't walk a batter and struck out seven.
West (4-0) lowers his earned run average to 0.88 this season in the New York-Penn League.

Winnipeg Goldeyes vs.Wichita Wingnuts - August 10, 2012
Josh Lowey is the ace of the Wichita Wingnuts staff. Last night he out-dueled the Ace of the Winnipeg Goldeyes staff.
Lowey, who came into the game with a record of 12-3 and an earned run average of just 2.94, held the Goldeyes to only three runs on two hits over seven complete innings as the Wingnuts evened the series in Winnipeg at a win apiece with an 8-3 win.
A crowd of 6,096 watched a wild one at Shaw Park as Goldeyes manager Rick Forney was ejected in the sixth inning for arguing with first base umpire Steve Linton.
Meanwhile, the Wingnuts tagged Goldeyes starter Ace Walker for seven runs on nine hits and relievers Alex Jones and Griffin Bailey for a run on six hits. The 15-hit attack, combined with three Goldeyes errors, was enough to put a halt to Winnipeg's four-game winning streak.
With the loss, Winnipeg fell to 46-32 on the season and dropped five games behind Fargo in the race for first in the American Association's North Division.
Wichita scored a run in the first, four in the fourth and three more in the sixth and that was plenty. The Wingnuts No. 8 hitter, third baseman Steve Carillo, did the most damage going two-for-four with a run scored and three RBI.
Winnipeg, meanwhile, scratched out a run in the third without a hit as Josh Mazzola walked, Kyle Day walked, Amos Ramon laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners up 90 feet and then Price Kendall drove home Mazzola with a sacrifice fly.
The Goldeyes scored two more in the fourth to make the score 5-3 as Yurendell de Caster was hit by a pitch, Jon Weber walked, Luis Alen doubled home de Caster and Weber scored on a ground out by Mazzola.
But that was it. Despite a leadoff double by Amos Ramon in the eighth, Lowey was just too good on this night.
Lowey (13-3, 3.00 ERA) got the win for Wichita while Walker (6-4, 3.60 ERA) suffered the loss for the Goldeyes. Walker lasted 5.1 innings, giving up six earned runs.

Lamar gets timely hitting in 6-4 win over Southeastern La.
BEAUMONT -- Junior shortstop Aaron Olivas hit a fourth inning inside the park grand slam to give the Cardinals the lead, and Garret Autrey added a two-run single an inning later, to lead the Cardinals to a 6-4 Southland Conference win over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday afternoon at Vincent-Beck Stadium. With the Cardinals trailing 2-0, Olivas stepped to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded. Olivas hit a ball to left center that got through Lion center fielder Harry Slade and rolled all the way to the wall. Olivas scampered all the way around to follow his three teammates home and give Lamar a 4-2 lead. After SLU cut into the lead with a run in the top of the fifth inning, Lamar added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the inning. Seth Dornak led off with a single and Brad Picha walked with one out to put runners on first and second. Jeff Abt, who finished with a pair of hits, then singled to short to load the bases. After pinch hitter Zach Luevanos struck out, Autrey stepped to the plate with two outs. As Olivas had done one inning earlier, Autrey came through in the clutch with a single to right center that plated two runs and gave the Cards a 6-3 lead."We got two really big hits today and that was the difference in the game," said LU head coach Jim Gilligan. "Olivas and Autrey both came up big when we needed them."Lamar snapped a five-game losing streak to improve to 9-17 overall and 2-9 in Southland play. The Cardinals and Lions (20-8 overall, 7-4 in the SLC) will play the tiebreaker Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. from Vincent-Beck Stadium.Three Lamar pitchers combined for the win despite the fact that SLU finished with twice as many hits as the Cardinals (14-7). Collin Chapman started and worked three innings, allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts.John Gilligan got the win for Lamar in relief to even his record at 2-2 on the year. Gilligan worked 1.2 innings, giving up just the single SLU run in the fifth on five hits. Machon Trimm earned his first save of the season by working the final 4.1 innings. Trimm allowed just four hits and one earned run."Trimm did a great job along with John and Collin," said Gilligan. "Their combined effort was enough for us to get the win and that was one we really needed."The Lions opened the scoring in the third inning with a pair of runs off Chapman. Brock Hebert, who was 3-for-5 in the game, hit an RBI triple that drove in Michael Rutland and got the Lions on the board. Jonathan Pace, who also had three hits, drove Hebert home with a single past short.SLU's final run came in the ninth inning as the Lions looked like they had a chance for a big inning. The first three batters reached base, but SLU would only score one run as Jacob Fisher singled home a run with two outs. Trimm got pinch hitter Sam Roberson to fly out to center field to end the game.Lion starter Jordan Hymel took the loss after giving up four runs in four innings of work. Hymel (4-2) entered the game with a 1.80 earned run average, but that number jumped to 3.00 after his struggles Saturday. Reliever Joseph Koon surrendered the other two runs in the game.Dornak match Abt with two hits for the Cardinals, raising his batting average to a team-leading .311.

I am Second® - Clayton Kershaw
http://www.iamsecond.com
He's the youngest to win a Cy Young Award since 1985. He's been compared to Sandy Koufax, the great Los Angeles Dodgers Hall of Famer. He had the most strikeouts, the best Earned Run Average, and won the most games of any pitcher in the league. On the mound he is the epitome of discipline, accuracy and control.
Yet Clayton's journey to success in baseball has included many personal moments way out of his control. Family issues, finances, sports teams, and more. All beyond his control. Still, this young man has already learned valuable lessons on how to manage a high stress environment. Here he shares wisdom beyond his years and a passion for the needs of others that only God can impart.
