EX Cop Christopher Dorner Wanted in Murder of basketball coach, fiance IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) -- Eyewitness News has learned a former LAPD officer has been named a suspect in the double-murder of a Cal State Fullerton basketball coach and her USC security guard fiancé in Irvine. Keith Lawrence, 27, and Monica Quan, 28, were found fatally shot in Lawrence's car in the parking lot of their apartment complex in Irvine Sunday. In a news conference Wednesday night, Irvine Police identified the suspect as Christopher Jordan Dorner, a former LAPD officer and Navy reservist. Dorner's whereabouts were unknown. His last known address was on Sharon Drive in La Palma. He is believed to be driving a blue Nissan Titan pickup truck, California license plate 7X03191. He is considered armed and dangerous. Dorner, 33, is described as an African-American man standing 6 feet tall, weighing 270 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. If seen, call 911. Police said Dorner wrote a multi-page manifesto in which he implicated himself. Authorities said Dorner appears to have murdered Quan in an act of revenge against her father, Randy Quan, a former LAPD officer who retired and became an attorney. Court documents obtained by Eyewitness News show that in August 2007, Dorner made a complaint against his field training officer accusing her of kicking a suspect. However, the LAPD Board of Rights found Dorner's complaint to be false and terminated his employment for making a false statement. The ...

May 1998 For the last time this century the Indian city of Haridwar in the foothills of the Himalayas was the setting for the mother of all festivals. Haridwar is one of the seven most important sites in the world for devout Hindus. Here the River Ganges enters the plains of India. For this year's Kumbh Mela bathing festival a staggering 7 million Hindus have arrived. After three months of dancing, the characterful Bath of the Saddhus, the reclusive Hindu holy men, takes Place. According to Hindu mythology, the waters of the Ganges turn into the nectar of immortal life during this auspicious time. To bathe is to gain immortality, and millions do. The atmosphere of the scene is like a rave, whistles blowing, crowds everywhere. But with their thick dreadlocks and ash-covered bodyguards (nargas), the Saddhus steal the show. This year's festivities took Place without violence - proving India's Holy men can show more restraint than its politicians. Produced by ABC Australia Distributed by Journeyman Pictures

Thousands of Tunisians have attended the funeral of opposition leader Chokri Belaid, who was killed on Wednesday by a gunman who fled on a motorcycle. There were minor clashes as his coffin was carried through Tunis, but the event was largely peaceful. Sporadic protests and clashes have been reported all around Tunisia, and many workers are observing a general strike. Unions say the Islamist-led government is to blame for the killing, an accusation it denies. Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali has tried to defuse tensions by announcing he would form a non-partisan, technocratic government. His governing Ennahda party has rejected this. But Mr Jebali on Friday told reporters he would go ahead with his plan, saying a technocratic government would not require the approval of the constituent assembly. 'Stealing the revolution' Some 3000 people initially gathered outside the building in the Djebel Jelloud suburb of Tunis where Mr Belaid's flower-covered coffin lay. www.euronews.com Dozens of people turned up to pay their respects to Chokri Belaid, the Tunisian opposition politician shot dead outside his Tunis home on Wednesday. Belaid was a leading member of the leftist Popular Front coalition. His assassination has left the country in shock and intensified a political crisis around the dominant political party Ennahda. Belaid's sister said: "I blame Ennahda, party president Rached Ghannouchi and Interior minister Ali Larayedh personally for my brother's killing. "They were the only ones threatening him, he didn't have any other enemies. We accuse no other political party, only them." Ennahda is the majority member of the ruling coalition. A moderate Islamist party, it has a few radical factions but has denied having any hand in his killing. Mohammed Habib Marzouki, party member and adviser to the Tunsian prime minister said: "Ennahda has no reason to attack a political adversary. But if the judiciary finds otherwise and shows those accusations are valid, then the law should be applied." Belaid's killing has sparked widespread protests and the country's main labour union has called a nationwide general strike for Friday.
