"what do people here think of the theory that the language of the Huns could have been related to the dene-yeniseian language family?" A great question from VikingSkippen!
This hypothesis is certainly fascinating. In fact, let's discuss this today!
By "Huns", in the field of Eurasian studies we mean this in strict reference to the people who contributed to the fall of Rome in the 5th century--Attilla and co. It is certainly possible that Yeniseian speakers were among this confederation. The core language of this confederation, however, may well have been influenced by Satem IE languages, judging from the few words that were recorded. On the other hand, many proper names seem to have been Turkic or Para-Turkic. See http://www.kroraina.com/huns/mh/mh_6.html
However, in popular parlance "Huns" can also refer to the pre-Mongol peoples, known formally as Xiongnu, who fought against Qin and Han-dynasty China. It is quite possible that there were Yeniseian speakers in their ranks. The "Dingling" Xiongnu tribe, for example, of Eastern Siberia may have represented an intermediate stage between Yeniseian and Na-Dene. Compare "Ding" with Ket de'ng "people" and "Ling" with Tlingit lhin "man":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dingling
Another, even more interesting, possibility is that Yeniseic speakers may have even presided over a short-lived Chinese dynasty! The Later Zhao dynasty ruled most of northern China (as far south as the Yellow river, maybe even further) between 319-351. The emperors of this state were of the Jie ethnicity, which in Middle Chinese would've been something like [kiat] according to Pulleybank. Doesn't that sound like "Ket"?
And yes, it was Pulleybank who suggested that the Huns may have spoken a Yeniseic language.

Though the Huns are popularly imagined as mere bloodthirsty wild men, every detail of Hun battle was a finely ordered drill.
The Aztecs are one of the great Central American people who, through force, rose to become a major nation. Their warfare was heavily stylised but remarkably effective.
Huns starts at 00:10
The Huns were a nomadic people or peoples, who are known to have lived in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia between the 1st Century AD and the 7th Century.
Aztec starts at 23:41
The Aztec people were certain ethnic groups of central Mexico, particularly those groups who spoke the Nahuatl language and who dominated large parts of Mesoamerica from the 14th to 16th centuries.
Much of what we know of ancient history is the history of militaries: their conquests, their movements, and their technological innovations. There are many reasons for this. Kingdoms and empires, the central units of control in the ancient world, could only be maintained through military force. Due to limited agricultural ability, there were relatively few areas that could support large communities, so fighting was common.
Weapons and armor, designed to be sturdy, tended to last longer than other artifacts, and thus a great deal of surviving artifacts recovered tend to fall in this category as they are more likely to survive. Weapons and armor were also mass-produced to a scale that makes them quite plentiful throughout history, and thus more likely to be found in archaeological digs.

I've tried to put in all the words in here, but unfortunatelly it was too long so youtube didn't accept that! But here is the sources for my teaching, [Elnitsky L.A., 1977, 4]. The Turkish scientist Bahaeddin Ögel, [Ogel, 1981, 11]. [Seferoglu, Mudarrisoglu, 1986, 25-26]. [ Gumilev L.N., 1974, 5 ]. L.N.Gumilev's summary. [Latyshev V.V., 1893, I, 186]. (Geography Book 3 Chapter 5 - Translator’s note). [ Latyshev V.V., 1893, I, 232]. (The Ecclesiastical History of Philostorgius Book 9, Ch. 17 - Translator’s note) [Latyshev V.V., 1893, I, 741]. [Latyshev V.V., 1893, I, 800], [Karalkin P.I., 1978, 39-40]. [Kafesoglu I., 1992, 115]. [Ser-Odjav H., 1971, 15; Suhbaatar G., 1976, 123]. [Kafesoglu I., 1992, 112], [Bichurin N.J., 1950; Aristov N.A., 1896, 290]. [Aristov N.A., 1896, 292-293]. [Abul-Gazi, 1906, 10]. [Ashmarin N.I., 1902, 56].
The Türkic-speaking of the Huns is usually proved by individual words recorded in the sources. The name Balamber of the leader of the Huns is of a Türkic origin from a word balam "my child", the second part bir is "give, deliver" or ber "only". In the name all the consonants are sonorous; if the Hunnish language was like a Chuvash-type, there would be palatalized consonants instead. The name Attila (possibly Atty+Ille) consist of parts atty (atly) "deserving", or "with a horse", and ille "possessing a country". In Türkic tradition the great personalities were renamed, and the secondary name semantically should have reflected his social status.

The name Attila (possibly Atty+Ille) consist of parts atty (atly) "deserving", or "with a horse", and ille "possessing a country". In Türkic tradition the great personalities were renamed, and the secondary name semantically should have reflected his social status.

In which John Green teaches you about what westerners call the middle ages and the lives of the aristocracy...in Japan. The Heian period in Japan lasted from 794CE to 1185CE, and it was an interesting time in Japan. Rather than being known for a thriving economy, or particularly interesting politics, the most important things to come out of the Heian period were largely cultural. There was a flourishing of art and literature in the period, and a lot of that culture was created by women. The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu was the classic piece of literature of the day, and it gave a detailed look into the way the Aristocrats of the Heian period lived. While this doesn't give a lot of insight into the lives of daily people, it can be very valuable, and the idea of approaching history from a cultural perspective is a refreshing change from the usual military or political history that survives from so many eras.
