A national symbol is a symbol of any entity considering itself and manifesting itself to the world as a national community: the sovereign states but also nations and countries in a state of colonial or other dependence, (con)federal integration, or even an ethnocultural community considered a 'nationality' despite having no political autonomy.
National symbols intend to unite people by creating visual, verbal, or iconic representations of the national people, values, goals, or history.
These symbols are often rallied around as part of celebrations of patriotism or aspiring nationalism (such as independence, autonomy or separation movements) and are designed to be inclusive and representative of all the people of the national community.

On the 40th anniversary of the dedication of the Buffalo River as America's first national river, this special edition of Exploring Arkansas will take you on a john-boat float trip down the middle portion of the river where two unique rock formations can be explored -- the "Nars"and Skull Bluff. Program concludes with a hike along one of Arkansas's premier hiking trails -- the Goat Trail which meanders along 500 foot-tall Big Bluff in the Buffalo's upper portion. Twin Falls is one of the most beautiful, scenic, waterfalls in the Ozarks. The official name is Twin Falls, but when we were there, three falls were running. Directions: If your coming from Jasper senic Hwy 7, turn left on 74 towards Ponca. Go approximately 4 miles and turn right onto Kyle's Landing / Camp Orr Boy Scout Camp. Take gravel road until you see a sign that says, "Camp Orr Boy Scout Camp". Turn right, follow the road for approximately three miles to the bottom of the mountain where you will see a sign for "Twin Falls". This road is steep so be careful. Park across from the sign and just a short hike you'll be there. Also watch out for snakes as we saw a small copperhead on the way out. If you miss the "Camp Orr Boy Scouts" turn you will end up at Kyle's landin...

This is a 7 day backpacking trip we did in late September, early October, of 2015. We start by going down the Lamar River, camping 2 nights along the way. Day 3 we head up Mist Creek, camping in the meadows below the pass. Day 4 we go over the pass, drop down into Pelican Valley, and head up to Wapiti Lake. We spend 2 nights at the lake, and explore Hot Springs Basing Group and Rainbow Springs on day 5. Day 6 we head down Broad Creek towards Joseph's Coat. We intended to camp there for 2 nights, but non stop rain caused us to hike out a day early, on day 7. We had great weather the first few days, but it rained the last 3 days of the trip.
