Sharrif Floyd (born May 28, 1992) is an American football defensive tackle. He currently attends the University of Florida in his junior year.

High school career[link]

Floyd attended George Washington High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he totaled over 50 tackles, two sacks and seven tackles for losses during his junior season despite being bothered by an ACL tear for part of the season. He received an invitation to the annual U.S. Army All-American Combine in January 2009, but initially could not afford the travel costs to San Antonio, Texas. With help from special-education students, Floyd baked brownies and sold them at school for weeks to raise the money.^[1] He was able to make the trip and earned First-Team All-Combine honors. After his senior season at Washington, he was named High School All-American by USA Today, Parade, and EA Sports.

Regarded as a five-star recruit by Rivals.com, Floyd was listed as the No. 1 defensive tackle prospect in the class of 2010.^[2] He chose Florida over Ohio Sate, Boston College, North Carolina, South Carolina, Miami, USC and Penn State.^[3]

Devon Alexander (born February 10, 1987) is a professional American boxer. Nicknamed "Alexander the Great," he is the former WBC and IBF Light Welterweight champion.

Biography[link]

Alexander grew up in the Hyde Park neighborhood of north St. Louis, in an area described as downtrodden, rough, gang- and drug-infested.^[1] Alexander joined the boxing gym that Kevin Cunningham, a former police officer turned trainer, founded in the basement of an old police station.^[2]

Thirty kids joined the boxing program of Cunningham, who had hoped to keep the kids out of trouble. A stablemate of Alexander's, Cory Spinks would become welterweight champion. .^[3]

Amateur career[link]

Alexander had an outstanding amateur career, compiling a record of 300-10 under the tutelage of Cunningham. He was a four-time Silver Gloves champion from ages 10–14; three-time PAL national champion; Junior Golden Gloves and Junior Olympics national champion; 2003 United States national champion in the 19-and-under division; and 2004 United States light welterweight national champion. Alexander made it to the final round of the 2004 Olympic trials, where he battled Rock Allen to a draw and was knocked down once before losing on a tie-breaker.^[4]

Professional career[link]

At age 17, Alexander made his professional debut, defeating Vincent Torres by first round technical knockout in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan.^[4] He was victorious in his second pro fight against Karl Hunter before on February 5, 2005, Alexander defeated Donovan Castaneda by unanimous decision in front of 22,370 spectators, the second-largest crowd in history to witness a boxing event in an indoor arena at the Savvis Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Alexander’s mentor, Cory Spinks, headlined the card opposing Zab Judah.^[5]

Alexander won his next five fights before on July 8, 2006, at the Savvis Center in St. Louis, Missouri, Alexander defeated Tyler Ziolkowski by first round technical knockout to win the WBC Youth welterweight title, but was himself knocked down once in the fight.^[5]

On January 6, 2007, Alexander defeated Maximinio Cuevas by fourth round technical knockout at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. In his next fight, Alexander fought Scott Ball on March 2, 2007, at the Belterra Casino Resort & Spa in Belterra, Indiana. Alexander was down in the second round himself but broke Ball's jaw in round six and dropped him twice in round seven en route to a technical knockout victory.^[5]

He won his next two fights against Marcus Luck and Cory Peterson before he went up against former WBO junior welterweight champion DeMarcus Corley on January 19, 2008, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Alexander easily defeated Corley by unanimous decision to claim the vacant WBC Continental Americas junior welterweight title.^[6]

On August 1, 2009, Alexander defeated Junior Witter by eighth round due to RTD 8 to claim the vacant WBC light welterweight championship. Witter gave up on his stool claiming that he had re-injured his left hand. Alexander was hurt by a right hand in round 2, All three judges had Alexander ahead at the time of the stoppage 79-73, 79-73, 80-72.

Alexander was next scheduled to face two-time champion Juan Urango of Colombia in a title unification bout. The 6 March 2010 bout was held at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut and was televised on HBO's "Boxing After Dark" telecast.^[2] To train for the fight, Alexander used a Las Vegas house lent by promoter Don King as training base.^[3] Devon Alexander defeated Juan Urango by TKO in round 8. Alexander threw an uppercut which dropped Urango. Urango made the count but Alexander resumed his attack and threw a hook to Urango's temple which again dropped him. Urango stood up but was clearly dazed, resulting in a stoppage by the referee. Urango, who suffered his first KO defeat, called out Timothy Bradley after the fight, but a fight was never made because Bradley just moved up to welterweight.

In his next fight he faced Andreas Kotelnik, the former WBA Light Welterweight champion, in his hometown of St. Louis Missouri on 7 August in front of members of the St. Louis Rams, Evander Holyfield and Floyd Mayweather.^[7] Alexander won the fight by a controversial unanimous decision with all judges scoring the fight 116-112.

On October 22, 2010, Alexander was stripped of the IBF Junior Welterweight title for not fighting the no. 1 contender, Kaizer Mabuza.

Bradley vs. Alexander[link]

Alexander's next fight, on January 29, 2011, took place against Timothy Bradley, which he lost via 10th round TD after an unintentional head-butt forced a stop to the bout.^[8]

Alexander vs. Matthysse[link]

On June 25, 2011, Alexander beat Lucas Matthysse in a disputed split decision. The fight seemed like a clear win for Matthysse, who knocked down Alexander in the fourth round and landed harder shots. The home state judges in Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri, however, scored the fight 96-93 and 95-94 for Alexander and 96-93 for Matthysse.

Alexander vs. Maidana[link]

On February 25, 2012 Alexander moved up to welterweight and put on a dominating performance against highly regarded and hard charging Marcos Maidana. Alexander landed the right hook at will, catching Maidana with his left hand down throughout the contest. Maidana was seemingly surprised by both the speed and power Alexander displayed at his first fight at welterweight. Only one of the three judges had Maidana winning a round.

Ishe Oluwa Kamau Bhoduri Ali "Sugar Shay" Smith (b. July 22, 1978, Las Vegas) is a professional boxer, and was a competitor on the first season of the reality TV show The Contender.

Ishe Smith is a devoted Christian who wears Psalm 27 on the back of his trunks, along with it being on his trunks Ishe also has it tattooed on his neck. Smith and ex-wife Latoya divorced in 2008, they share custody of their 3 children, Ishe Smith Jr, Ajani Smith, and Noelani Smith. "Ishe Oluwa" in the Yoruba language means "Work of God."

Pre-Contender[link]

Ishe Smith was a strong prospect early in his career, primarily as a good counter-puncher with excellent defensive skills. He won his first fourteen fights prior to the Contender, facing generally strong opposition early in his career. He faced future fellow Contender Alfonso Gomez in his fourth pro fight(Alfonso's second pro fight) and won via a controversial unanimous decision(due to a low blow penalty against Gomez that was poorly called) in a four round fight back in 2001. He also beat another future Contender Season 2 alum, Norberto Bravo by unanimous decision later in the same year. Most notably, he dominated a fellow hot prospect at the time, David "King" Estrada, beating him by a wide unanimous decision in 2003. And in 2004, he won his first belts(WBC Continental Welterweight title, WBO NABO Welterweight title, and USBA Welterweight title), beating former world champion Randall Bailey by a controversial unanimous decision in 2004. In a very economical punching fight from both men, Smith scored a knockdown in the second round and showed better defense, but Bailey was a bit more active throughout, particularly in the last three rounds with an effective jab. There was little to separate the two men in terms of scoring the fight, but Smith won by scores of 116-111, 117-110, and 114-113. He cried in joy following the match.

The Contender[link]

Ishe took a chance and signed on to do The Contender, and was roommates with former adversary Alfonso Gomez. On the show, he was placed on the West Coast team and fought his rival Ahmed Khaddour in the third episode's fight, a bout which was steel-tipped by the pair's frosty relationship. Smith won by unanimous decision against Ahmed in a tough fight. Smith also did not enamour himself to Anthony Bonsante, who he criticized for fighting someone he was not meant to in Brent Cooper - despite the bout having no bearing on Smith's standing in the competition.

When Juan de la Rosa was medically disqualified at the end of the first round fight, certain other boxers bought back Khaddour, a tactic employed to get under Smith's skin. After Brinkley criticized him for speaking his mind too often, Brinkley selected him to fight Sergio Mora, the tournament's eventual winner - which he lost to by split decision. He then faced his nemesis Bonsante in a Fan Favorite Fight, and despite suffering many illegal moves from a desperate Bonsante, won by a wide unanimous decision.

Post Contender[link]

Since The Contender, he has criticized the show's management company for trying to force him to fight Jesse Brinkley at a severe weight disadvantage for a relatively small fight purse. A natural welterweight, Smith feels that he should be allowed to drop back down to a lower weight class and fight more rounds against opponents outside The Contender in preparation for an eventual title shot or be allowed out of the show's management contract as Contender contestants Ahmed Khaddour and Jimmy Lange, among others, have been.

Ishe Smith won his arbitration trial earlier this year and got out of the Contender promotions to sign a contract with Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions. Ishe Smith has been under Bernard Hopkins' guidance since he joined Golden Boy Promotions. He had stated that he is very happy with the Golden Boy Promotions.

He was featured on a June 7 fight card promoted by Bernard Hopkins on ESPN Friday Night Fight, where he dominated his opponent Patrick Thompson through 10 rounds to get a unanimous decision. He fought at 154 lbs, in the junior middleweight division, which is considered a division with a ton of opportunities for young prospects at this time.

Smith fought Sechew Powell, a junior middleweight contender on February 17, 2007, and lost a unanimous decision, potentially halting his hopes of landing a title shot. Smith lost the fight despite scoring a knock down. After the decision was announced, many of Powell's own hometown fans booed the decision. The reason for the boos were because the judges gave Powell eight out of ten rounds and many viewers of the fight, both live and television, felt the fight was much closer and could have gone either way by one point.^{[citation needed]} The fight was also very slow as neither man wanted to let his hands go much, so the booing may have been for the lackluster nature of the fight as both men had talked a lot of trash to each other beforehand.

Ishe Smith lost a razor close decision to Joel Julio on April 30, 2008. Julio outworked Smith in the early rounds of the fight, but Ishe came on strong in the 2nd half of the fight to make it interesting. Julio went on to lose his next two fights, one by TKO.

Ishe returned to the ring on August 1, 2008, winning by unanimous decision over the previously undefeated Pawel Wolak, Smith called that a do or die, must win situation, and he delivered, outboxing the somewhat plodding Wolak in one of his most consistent performances. He followed that with a workmanlike unanimous decision win over Chris Gray in a stay busy fight.

What could be called one of his best performances was a UD lost to Danny Jacobs on August 22, 2009, it was a fight where Smith had his moments and definitely was crowd pleasing. Smith moved up to Middleweight to challenge Jacobs. Smith has vowed to go back to Jr Middleweight and make a run at the title. However, his next fight has been set for July 16, 2010 against explosive southpaw Middleweight prospect Fernando Guerrero in Memphis, Tennessee.

On July 16, 2010, Ishe fought rising Middleweight prospect Fernando Guerrero in Memphis, Tennessee on ShoBox in a ten round competitive action affair. For the first half of the fight, Guerrero seemed to have a slight edge, as he outlanded and outworked Ishe while Ishe invested in a lot of body shots, some being low, resulting in him losing a point. The tide turned heavily in Ishe's favor though in Round 8, as Ishe was able to drop Guerrero with a strong right hand at the end of the round. Ishe had a very strong Round 9 and a good Round 10, though Guerrero had his moments in the final round as well. Though it appeared the scores could have gone either way by the end of the fight and Ishe closed strong, Guerrero won 96-93, 95-93, and a surprising score of 97-91. Ishe declared afterwards that he would like to return to Light Middleweight to make a run and/or get a fight with Julio Caesar Chavez Jr.

Golden Boy Promotions[link]

After Golden Boy Promotions signed numerous other fighters including many former and current champions, Ishe Smith had become idle because Golden Boy Promotions are holding cards to feature more known names than Ishe Smith. Smith was frustrated by this and made a statement saying that he is considering joining the UFC, because he is in a desperate need of a fight.

Broner turned professional on 31 May 2008 and scored three consecutive first round knockouts against Allante Davis, David Warren Huffman and Ramon Flores. In Broner's fourth fight he faced Terrance Jett at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on the undercard of the Ricky Hatton vs Paulie Malignaggi fight. Broner defeated Jett with a stoppage in the sixth round. In Broner's fifth professional fight and final of 2008, he faced Scott Furney on the undercard of Oscar De La Hoya vs Manny Pacquiao fight. Broner stopped Furney in the first round bringing his record to 5(5)-0-0.

In January 2009 he was forced to go the distance with Jose Alfredo Lugo, at the Staples Center on the undercard of Shane Mosley vs Antonio Margarito. Broner returned to the ring in March scoring a unanimous decision over Eric Ricker. Three weeks later Broner stopped Angel Rodriguez in the fourth round. In his eighth fight Broner stepped up to eight rounds in a hard fought fight with Fernando Quintero, pulling out a majority decision. In June at the Staples Center Broner met Australian William Kickett, scoring a sixth round knockout. On the Juan Díaz vs Paul Malignaggi undercard in Houston Broner make short work of Edgar Portillo, victory coming via stoppage in the first round. Broner defeated Henry White Jr via KO in September and finished his busy year against Tommy Atencio. Broner stopped Atencio in the first round, for the sixth time in thirteen fights. Broner then had a fourth round stoppage victory over Roberto Acevedo. Broner fought 4 more times in 2010 against Rafael Lora, Carlos Claudio, Guillermo Sanchez, and Ilido Julio, stopping all of them.

Broner vs. Ponce De Leon[link]

Broner took his first major step up in competition in a disputed decision against Daniel Ponce De Leon on March 5, 2011. Broner started off the fight slow, having trouble getting through Ponce De Leon's tight guard and unable to figure him out the first 4 rounds of the fight. As the fight progressed into the middle rounds, Broner found his timing and was able to open up more on Ponce De Leon, seemingly controlling the pace and action of the middle rounds. The late rounds in the fight were close, with both fighters having their moments, and none really standing out or winning the majority of the late rounds. Broner was awarded the Unanimous Decision victory by the scores of 96-94, 96-94, and 99-91, with a large portion of analysts and commentators thinking the fight should have been scored a draw. The compubox stats had Ponce De Leon landing 127 of 592 (21%) on total punches, to 126 of 351 (36%) for Broner. In power punches, compubox had Ponce De Leon landing 119 of 392 (30%), to 101 of 243 (42%) for Broner. After the fight, Ponce De Leon said he definitely would like a rematch with Broner at some point.

Broner's next fight was on HBO's Boxing After Dark show from Guadalajara, Mexico, Adrien Broner took on Top 10 Super Featherweight contender Jason Litzau in a fight scheduled for ten rounds. Broner landed combos on the ropes late in the first, with a straight right, left hook and then a right uppercut hurting the Minnesotan badly. He crumpled, and the ref leaped in, seeing he was out. The official end came at 2:58 of the first round.

Having no luck in getting Ricky Burns, the former WBO super featherweight champion, to fight him on November 26, 2011,^[3] Broner fought contender Vicente Martin Rodriguez on the undercard of the Saul Alvarez vs. Kermit Cintron fight card on HBO as part of a double header.^[4] He defeated Rodriguez by knockout in the third round, to win the vacant WBO Super Featherweight World title.

Broner made a successful first defense of his WBO belt against Top 10 Super Featherweight contender and mandatory challenger Eloy Perez on a Feb. 25, 2012 HBO-televised card.^[5] with a knockout victory. Broner controlled and pace and action from start to finish, beating Perez to the punch and walking him down with ease. The fight ended when Broner landed a straight hand on Perez, followed by another right hand as Perez was going down.

Broner's next fight will be on July 21, 2012 at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, against Super Featherweight contender Vicente Escobedo. The fight will be aired on HBO's Boxing After Dark.
