Popular versions include eight-ball and nine-ball. An obsolete term for pool is six-pocket. There are hundreds of pool games. Some of the more well known include eight-ball, nine-ball, ten-ball, straight pool, one-pocket and bank pool. There are also hybrid games combining aspects of both pool and carom billiards, such as American four-ball billiards, cowboy pool and bottle pool. As a competitive sport, pool is governed internationally by the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA), which has multi-national, regional affiliates comprising the All Africa Pool Association (AAPA), Asian Pocket Billiard Union (APBU, including the Middle East), Billiard Congress of America (BCA, Canada and the US), Confederation Panamerica of Billiards (CPB, Latin America and Caribbean), European Pocket Billiard Federation (EPBF, including Russia and the Near East), and Oceania Pocket Billiard Association (OPBA, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific islands) The WPA represents pool in the World Confederation of Billiard Sports, which in turn represents all forms of cue sports (including carom billiards and snooker) in the International Olympic Committee.

Wu Jia-qing 吴珈庆 vs Jeffery Ignacio | L16 | All Japan Champioanship 10-ball 2014 吴珈庆_vs_ジェフリー・イグナシオ 2014日本公开赛 Add Raymund Faraon to the list of Pinoy cueists who have captured major tournaments abroad. On Monday night Faraon defeated local bet Naoyuki Oi 11-8 in the final match to win the 47th All-Japan Championship in Amagasaki, Japan. No information on how much the victory is worth could be found, but according to cue sports website AZBilliards.com last year’s champion, Ko Pin Yi of Chinese Taipei took home US$ 28,000 when he lifted the trophy. In previous years, Filipinos Efren Reyes, Francisco Bustamante, and Nikoy Lining have triumphed in this storied event, which is one of the longest-running pocket billiards competitions on the planet. The 26-year old made it through the qualifying stage to top a world-class field. In the round of 32 he stunned Dennis Orcollo 11-4 before upending Taiwan-born Japanese pro Lo Li Wen in the round of 16, 11-7. ALSO READ: The case for Baldwin as Gilas coach. Faraon’s quarterfinal victim was countryman Johann Chua, who fell by another 11-7 scoreline. Faraon then dumper former world 9 Ball finalist Li He Wen of China, 11-7 in the semis before edging past Oi. Other Filipinos who reached the last 32 were Ramil Gallego, Warren Kiamco, Carlo Biado, Lining, Jeffrey De Luna and Jeffrey Ignacio. Other notables who also participated were defending champ Ko, Mika Immonen of Finland, Chinese Taipei ace Chang Jung Lin, Taiwanese-born China player Wu Jia Qing (Wu Chia Ching), and Satoshi Kawabata of Japan. You can view the final bracket here. The title continues a solid year for the Faraon, who finished in the last 16 of the world 9 Ball championship, falling to eventual finalist Elmer Haya of the Philippines. Faraon, from Sipocot, Camarines Sur, is now based in Dubai and studied in Lyceum College of Subic Bay in Olongapo. The All-Japan Championship is considered to be very prestigious in the world of pool. It is also steeped in history and tradition, being one of the few tournaments that requires players to wear a long-sleeved shirt, vest, and bowtie while playing. The tournament has, however, caught up to the times by changing its playing discipline to 10 Ball from 9 Ball. The womens’ tournament was won by Chinese Taipei’s Wu Zhiting. The next big tournament for the Pinoy pros is the Manny Pacquiao-sponsored Philippine Open 10 Ball championship in General Santos City from December 8 to 17. That competition will feature a singles event with a US$50,000 purse and a doubles tournament with a kitty of US$100,000. In Pacquiao’s last tournament a few months back Thorsten Hohmann won the singles event while Ignacio and De Luna ruled the doubles competition. pool billiard billiards 9-ball 10-ball 8-ball shot ball cue stroke great magic straight cut jump luck lucky spin draw follow break table pocket world pool championship tournament genipool genipool14 wu chia ching

The Philippines is the host country of the 2011 World Ten Ball Championship of the World Pool-Billiard Association. It will be the fifth time that Manila will host a major WPA world pool championship. The championship will be played in the main hall of the World Trade Center in the Manila Bay Area in Metro Manila. The site is located close to the Mall of Asia and various hotels and attractions in Manila. The WTBC Prize Fund totals $250,000. Ten-ball is a modern pool game. It is a rotation game very similar to nine-ball, but more difficult, using ten balls instead of nine, and with the 10 ball instead of the 9 as the "money ball". Ten-ball is preferred over nine-ball by some professionals as a more challenging discipline than nine-ball, because it is slightly harder to pocket any balls on the break shot with the more crowded rack, the initial shooter cannot instantly win the game by pocketing the 10 on the break, all shots must be called, and performing a string of break-and-runs on successive racks is statistically more difficult to achieve. Although the game has existed for a long time, its popularity has risen in recent years as a result of concerns that nine-ball has suffered as a result of flaws in its fundamental structure (particularly the ease with which players can often make balls from the break). The World Pool-billiard Association (WPA) World Standardized Rules for ten-ball are very similar to those for nine-ball, but with key changes to ensure the difficulty of the game and its marketability as an alternative to nine-ball.

Taipei Times 2015-04-11Ronald Antonio "Ronnie" O'Sullivan (born 5 December 1975) is an English professional snooker player known for his rapid playing style, and is nicknamed "The Rocket". He has been World Champion on four occasions (2001, 2004, 2008 and 2012) and, with career earnings of over £6 million is second after Stephen Hendry on snooker's all-time prize-money list. O'Sullivan has been the world's no. 1 player on five occasions, and has won a total of 24 ranking titles. He is second, again behind Hendry, on the list of players making the most competitive century breaks, with a total of 678. O'Sullivan has compiled 11 maximum breaks in professional competition, a record which he shares with Hendry. He also holds the record for the fastest maximum break, at 5 minutes 20 seconds.
O'Sullivan is considered by many fans, critics and professionals, including fellow multiple-World Championship winners Hendry and Steve Davis, as the most naturally talented player in the history of the game. He has, however, been involved in a number of controversial incidents during his career.
