Phytic acid in soy
Does soy have phytic acid? Should we care? Soy does have high levels of phytic acid which reduces our ability to absorb the minerals in the soy. With many beans, soaking and cooking removes the phytic acid, but soy is an exception. Check out the food science research on the topic. www.phyticacid.org

How To Soak Oats & Quinoa
Jini Patel Thompson shows you how to soak grains like oats and quinoa (actually a chenopod) - to de-activate the phytic acid (which blocks mineral absorption) and make them easier to digest. Learn how to soak your oatmeal to make a porridge that cooks only 5 minutes! Lots more good stuff on my blog (and free reports, teleseminars, podcasts) at: www.ListenToYourGut.com

Brother Will speaking on health!!
Bro Will lecturing on how eating too much processed food can affect one's health. One thing i will disagree with Bro Will on, is that raw almonds are better than roasted. Raw almonds have phytic acid, which leeches Calcium and essential minerals from the bones; which could cause tooth decay. When Almonds are roasted, phytic acid is diminished. Phytic acid is also present in a lot of grains such as wholewheat. The body is your temple; look after it and it will look after you. Without good health you stifle your vitality, mobility, spirituality, potential wealth and happiness. Our bodies are severely toxic, and with a toxic body follows a toxic mind. Processed sugar is more toxic, addictive and damaging than Marijuana which they class as a drug; and is found in virtually every food item on supermarket shelves. .Something is not right with the food industry!!

Development of low phytate maize through marker assisted breeding
This video gives information about Marker assisted selection for developing the low phytate maize. It focuses mainly on what is meant by phytic acid and in which form it is stored in the seed ie phytate. It also tells about the need of developing low phytate maize and how this phytate make the micronutrients like Fe, Zn and Mg unavailable to non ruminant animals. The well adopted inbred UMI 285 and UMI 395 and low phytate donor parent EC 659418 are used to develop F1 and backcross generations. Overall procedure for introgression of lpa2 loci using backcross is demonstrated.SSR markers used for foreground and background marker selection are also demonstrated. Phytic acid and inorganic phosphorus determination differentiates low phytate and high phytate line.

Grainless Granola with berries
Recipe: 16 cups assorted nuts (soaked in water for 12-24 hours) 6 red apples 1/4 cup cinnamon 1 cup sunflower or pumpkin seeds (soaked in water for 12-24 hours) 1 cup honey (optional) 4 cups assorted dry fruit ( i used blue and cran berries) Dehydrator Obviously this makes quite a bit of granola, a little more than a gallon. Just cut recipe in half if it's too much. Grainless granola. It is pretty much vegan raw, except for the honey and sunflower seeds. I soak the nuts to take out some of the phytic acid. Phytic acid will inhibit nutrient absorption . I do use a dehydrator to "cook" it.

Grow Your OWN Sprouts for a Delicious Nutritious Sandwich
To avoid the late in the month conundrum of being fresh vege-less, I recently decided to grow my own sprouts. I bout a 3 tray sprouter which passes water from one tray to the next siphoning off what's not useful to the sprouts and what would slow the seeds sprouting. So hopefully I'll still have bunches of fresh veges at the end of this month. Incidentally sprouts are better protein than seeds as the seeds shed their phytic acid upon sprouting. Phytic acid can prevent nutrient absorption thus harsh growth. I helped my xgf put together an Amazon store and I helped her place lots of sprout related items and lots of seeds for sprouting in there. If you care to help her out while shopping for sprouts you can follow this link. astore.amazon.com Thanks, Dan
