Ned Thomas Beatty (born July 6, 1937) is an American actor who has appeared in more than 100 films and has been nominated for an Academy Award, two Emmy Awards, an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain and a Golden Globe Award; he won a Drama Desk Award.

These nominations stemmed from his performances in films and television series like Network (1976), Friendly Fire (1979), Last Train Home (1990), Hear My Song (1991), the adaptation film "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" (2004) and Toy Story 3 (2010).

He has had great commercial success in memorable roles such as the executive Bobby Trippe in Deliverance (1972), Tennessee lawyer Delbert Reese in Nashville (1975), general attorney Dardis in All the President's Men (1976), Bob Sweet in Silver Streak, the priest Edwards in Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977), Lex Luthor's henchman Otis in Superman (1978) and Superman II (1980), Bates' right hand man Sydney Morehouse in The Toy (1982), twice characters Borisov and Pavel Petrovic in The Fourth Protocol (1987), TV presenter Ernest Weller in Repossessed (1990), Rudy Ruettiger's father in Rudy (1993), detective McNair in Just Cause (1995), Ray and Claude's warden/employer Dexter Wilkins in Life (1999), the simple sheriff in Where the Red Fern Grows (2003), the corrupt Senator Charles F. Early life[link]

Beatty was born in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of Margaret Fortney (née Lennis) and Charles William Beatty.^[1] He has a sister, Mary Margaret. Before Beatty became an actor, in 1947, he began singing in gospel and barbershop quartets, in St. Matthews, Kentucky, as well as at his local church. He received a scholarship to sing in the a cappella choir at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky; he attended but did not graduate.^[2]

In 1956, he made his stage debut at age 19, appearing in Wilderness Road, an outdoor-historical pageant located in Berea, Kentucky and he worked in the Louisville area through the mid-1960s, at the Clarksville Little Theater (Indiana) and the recently founded Actors Theater of Louisville. His time at the latter included a run as Willy Loman in Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, in 1966.

In 1972, Beatty made his film debut with the role of Bobby Trippe in the hit thriller Deliverance (1972), starring Jon Voight and Burt Reynolds. One of the most memorable scenes of the film involved Beatty's weak-willed, flaccid character being ordered to strip at gunpoint, humiliated for being overweight and sodomized by the smaller but stronger and more aggressive mountain man.

In the same year, Beatty appeared in a western starring Paul Newman, The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972). In 1973, Beatty made a comedy film based on a novel by Terrence Lore Smith The Thief Who Came to Dinner (1973); The Last American Hero (1973), opposite Jeff Bridges and White Lightning (1973). He also appeared in an episode of the TV series The Waltons (1973). In 1974, he appeared in the television miniseries The Execution of Private Slovik (1974), based on a novel of William Bradford Huie, directed by Lamont Johnson and starring Martin Sheen. In 1975, he made W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings (1975), once again with Burt Reynolds; Robert Altman's Nashville (1975), portraying the overweight Tennessee lawyer Delbert Reese and he also appeared as Colonel Hollister in the 1975 M*A*S*H episode "Dear Peg".

Beatty received his first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor category for Network (1976). He was one of two primary actors in the film – along with William Holden – to not win an Oscar. The other three acting awards were swept by Network performers: Best Actor for Peter Finch, Best Actress for Faye Dunaway, and Best Supporting Actress for Beatrice Straight.

In 1976, he appeared in Alan J. Pakula's film All the President's Men (1976), opposite Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman; a comedy film The Big Bus (1976); Silver Streak (1976), with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor (in which his character is shot dead) and Mikey and Nicky (1976), portraying Kinney. In 1977, Beatty returned to work with John Boorman in the horror film Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977), starring Linda Blair. In 1978, Beatty appeared in Gray Lady Down (1978), portraying overweight Mickey and was cast by Richard Donner to portray Lex Luthor's overweight henchman Otis in Superman: The Movie (1978), with Christopher Reeve and Gene Hackman, as he would in the 1980 sequel, directed by Richard Lester.

Once again, Beatty received a second nomination for Emmy Award for 'Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Special' for the television series Friendly Fire (1979).

By the end of the 1970s, Beatty was seen in two films, Flannery O'Connor's novel Wise Blood (1979) and 1941 (1979), with Dan Aykroyd.

In 1980s, Beatty appeared in Ronald Neame's 1980 American film Hopscotch (1980). In 1981, Beatty appeared in the comedy/science fiction film The Incredible Shrinking Woman, directed by Joel Schumacher and starring by Lily Tomlin. In 1982, Beatty return to work with Richard Donner and Richard Pryor in the comedy The Toy (1982). In 1983, Beatty worked with Burt Reynolds again in Stroker Ace (1983).

In the middle of 1980s, Beatty appeared in the comedy film Restless Natives (1985), directed by Michael Hoffman and starring Vincent Friell.

In 1987, Beatty appeared in the 1987 American neo-noir crime film The Big Easy (1987) directed by Jim McBride and starring by Dennis Quaid and continued with The Fourth Protocol (1987), opposite Michael Caine and Pierce Brosnan. Entering in the 1990s, Beatty got it the third nomination for an Emmy Award for 'Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Special' category in Last Train Home (1990) and appeared in the 1991 British film, Hear My Song (1991), which he portrayed Irish tenor Josef Locke, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor - Motion Picture.

In 1990, Beatty worked again with Linda Blair in Repossessed (1990) and appeared in the Marvel Comics American hero Captain America (1990). In 1992, he portrayed Dr. Boyle in Prelude to a Kiss (1992); opposite Meg Ryan and Alec Baldwin. In 1993, Beatty appeared in the 1993 biopic Rudy (1994); portraying Rudy Reuttiger's father, with Sean Astin. By the middle of the 1990s, Beatty made the 1994 science fiction film Replikator (1994), directed by Philip Jackson and Radioland Murders (1994), portraying General Walt Whalen. In the beginning of 2000s, Beatty was a member of the original cast of the television police drama reunion film Homicide: The Movie (2000), reprising his role of Detective Stanley Bolander. In 2002, he appeared in Peter Hewitt's film Thunderpants (2002), and in 2003, Beatty portrayed a simple sheriff in Where the Red Fern Grows (2003).

Beatty has also had a career as a stage actor, including a run in the London production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Brendan Fraser and Frances O'Connor, which won a Drama Desk Award.

In the middle of 2000s, Beatty appeared in the television film The Wool Cap (2004), with William H. Macy, and in 2005, an American independent film directed and written by Ali Selim, Sweet Land (2005).

In March 2006, Beatty received the RiverRun International Film Festival's "Master of Cinema" Award (the highest honor of the festival), in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

In 2010, Beatty starred in the thriller The Killer Inside Me (2010), which was part of the Sundance Film Festival,^[3] and voiced the main antagonist Lots-O'-Huggin' Bear in Toy Story 3 (2010). In 2011, Beatty worked with actor Johnny Depp and director Gore Verbinski in the computer-animated film Rango (2011), again, playing the role of the antagonist and appear in the film Rampart (2011), opposite Woody Harrelson, which is set in 1999 Los Angeles.

In 1959, Beatty married Walta Chandler, with whom he has four children: Douglas Beatty, Charles Beatty, Lennis Beatty, and Walter Beatty. They divorced in 1968. In 1971, he married his second wife, the actress Belinda Rowley, with whom he had two children: John Beatty and Blossom Beatty. He married his third wife, Dorothy Adams "Tinker" Lindsey, on June 28, 1979, and with her he had two more children: Thomas Beatty in 1980 and Dorothy Beatty in 1983. He married his fourth wife, Sandra Johnson, on November 20, 1999.

Beatty resides in California. He also maintains a residence in Karlstad, Minnesota, his wife's hometown.

Josef Locke was the stage name of Joseph McLaughlin (23 March 1917 – 15 October 1999), an Irish tenor. He was successful in the United Kingdom and Ireland in the 1940s and 1950s.

Born in Derry, he was the son of a butcher and cattle dealer, and one of nine children. He started singing in local churches in the Bogside at the age of seven, and as a teenager added two years to his age to enlist in the Irish Guards, later serving abroad with the Palestine Police Force, before returning in the late 1930s to join the Royal Ulster Constabulary.

Known as The Singing Bobby, he became a local celebrity before starting to work the UK variety circuit, where he played 19 seasons in the northern English seaside resort of Blackpool. The renowned Irish tenor John McCormack (1884–1945) advised him that his voice was better suited to a lighter repertoire than the operatic one he had in mind, and urged him to find an agent—thus he found the noted impresario Jack Hylton (1892–1965) who booked him, but couldn't fit his full name on the bill, thus Joseph McLaughlin became Josef Locke.

He made his first radio broadcast in 1949, and subsequently appeared on TV programmes such as Rooftop Rendezvous, Top of the Town, All-star Bill and The Frankie Howerd Show. He was signed to the Columbia label in 1947, and his first releases were the two Italian songs "Santa Lucia" and "Come Back to Sorrento".

In 1947, too, Locke released "Hear My Song, Violetta", which became forever associated with him. His other songs were mostly a mixture of ballads associated with Ireland such as "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen", "Dear Old Donegal", "Galway Bay" and "The Isle of Innisfree" (the theme song from the film The Quiet Man), excerpts from operettas including "The Drinking song" from The Student Prince, "My Heart and I" from Richard Tauber's operatta Old Chelsea, and "Goodbye" from The White Horse Inn, along with familiar favourites such as "Come Back to Sorrento" and "Cara Mia".

In 1958, after he had appeared in five Royal Variety Performances, and while he was still at the peak of his career, the British tax authorities began to make substantial demands that Locke declined to meet. Eventually he fled the country for Ireland, where he lay low for several years. When his differences with the tax people were eventually settled, Locke retired to County Kildare, emerging for the occasional charity concert and reappearing in Blackpool in 1968. He appeared in front of The Prince and Princess of Wales at the 1992 Royal Variety Show, singing "Goodbye", having announced prior to the song that this would be his final public appearance.

Legacy[link]

In 1992, the Peter Chelsom film Hear My Song was released. It is a fantasy based on the notion of Locke returning from his Irish exile to complete an old love affair, and save a Liverpool-based Irish night-club from ruination. Locke is played by Ned Beatty.

On 22 March 2005, a bronze memorial to Locke was unveiled outside the City Hotel on Queen's Quay in Derry by Phil Coulter and John Hume. The memorial features Locke, Blackpool Tower, Carnegie Hall, and the musical notes of the opening lines of "Hear My Song".

Richard Treat Williams (born December 1, 1951) is a Screen Actors Guild Award–nominated American actor and children's book author who has appeared on film, stage and television.^[1] From 2002 to 2006, he was the star of the television series Everwood.

Early life[link]

Williams was born in Rowayton, Connecticut, the son of Marian (née Andrew), an antiques dealer, and Richard Norman Williams, a corporate executive.^[2] His maternal great-great-grandfather was Senator William Henry Barnum of Connecticut,^[3] and a distant relative was Robert Treat Paine, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.^[4] Williams graduated from the Kent School in Connecticut and Franklin and Marshall College. During his adolescence, Treat was often affectionately referred to by nicknames such as "Sweet Treat" and "Big Meat Treat." These later resurfaced when Williams was featured in the Feb 1980 edition of Playgirl.^[4]

Williams made his film debut in the 1976 thriller film Deadly Hero.^[5] He came to world attention when he starred in the Miloš Forman film Hair (1979) which was based on the Broadway musical Hair. He has gone on to appear in over 75 films and several television series, including, most notably, 1941 (1979), Once Upon A Time In America (1984), Dead Heat (1988), Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead (1995) and Deep Rising (1998).

Williams was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his part in Hair as George Berger. He got a second Golden Globe nomination for starring in Sidney Lumet's Prince of the City (1981) and a third for his performance as Stanley Kowalski in the television presentation of A Streetcar Named Desire. In 1996, Williams was nominated for a Best Actor Emmy Award by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for his work in The Late Shift, a HBO movie, in which he portrayed agent Michael Ovitz.

Williams has also worked as a director, winning two festival awards for directing Texan in Showtime's Chanticleer series.

In 1996, he played villain Xander Drax in Paramount's big budget comic book adaptation, The Phantom, in which Williams' character did his best to take over the world and kill Billy Zane's mysterious superhero.

Williams' career includes numerous stage roles. He won a Drama League Award for his work in the Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim's Follies, and another for starring in the off-Broadway production of Captains Courageous. Other notable Broadway shows include Grease, the Sherman Brothers' Over Here!, Once in a Lifetime, Pirates of Penzance and Love Letters, and off-Broadway, he has appeared in David Mamet's Oleanna and Oh, Hell (at Lincoln Center), Some Men Need Help and Randy Newman's Maybe I'm Doing It Wrong. He premiered the Los Angeles production of Love Letters and appeared in War Letters at the Canon Theatre in Los Angeles.

Williams may be best known for his leading role as Dr. Andrew Brown in the WB television series Everwood, about a New York neurosurgeon who moves his family to Colorado. Although the show's ratings were never spectacular, it won critical acclaim and had a devoted following. Williams received two SAG Award nominations (2003 and 2004) for his role on the show.

Williams has recently made several guest appearances on the ABC drama Brothers & Sisters playing David Morton, a friend and potential suitor of the Sally Field character. Williams starred in the short lived series Heartland on TNT as Nathaniel Grant, the head of a Pittsburgh organ transplant center, before it was canceled due to low ratings. He also starred in a Lifetime movie called the Staircase Murders, which aired April 15, 2007.

Speculations have Williams playing Killer Croc in the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises, directed by Christopher Nolan. According to sources close to the film, Williams' role will be minor. Williams will be starring in an upcoming Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, titled Beyond the Blackboard, with his former Everwood co-star, Emily VanCamp, which will air on CBS, April 24, 2011.^[6]

In early 2010, videos were posted on YouTube as well as edits made to Williams' Wikipedia page and a Facebook page made faking his death. These included a graphic and detailed explanation as to his illness and place of death. In August 2011, Williams responded to these rumours in an interview with Contact Music when speaking of more recent rumours linking him to the new Quentin Tarantino film Django Unchained. Regarding the death hoax, Williams stated, "I did see that and I think those things are dangerous for your family and friends."

Williams has been cast in the CBS television pilot Peachtree Lines as mayor Lincoln Rylan. The serial is an examination of political, social, and cultural issues in Atlanta also starring Victoria Rowell (Naomi Grace), Ving Rhames (Ving Wesley), James Van Der Beek (Garrett Cindell), Jason Dohring (Travis Diring), and Jena Malone (Sierra Jayden).

Adding to his long list of accomplishments, Williams has now published a children's book titled Air Show! (Illustrated by Robert Neubecker, and published in 2010 by Disney/Hyperion Books). The target audience being children ages three to seven, the book playfully documents the airshow experience with simple text and bold illustrations of such aircraft as a Boeing B-17, a Pitts Special biplane, and the U.S. Navy's Blue Angel F/A-18.

In 1969, Williams' high-school football coach, who was also a flight instructor, offered to train him in a Piper Super Cub. Williams became an FAA instrument rated commercial pilot with privileges in both single engine and multi-engine airplanes, rotorcraft. He also is certified as a flight instructor.^[7] Williams holds a type-rating for Cessna Citation jets.^[8] He has owned a Clipped-wing Cub, Cherokee 180, Seneca II, and a Navajo Chieftain which is used for family travel between homes.^[9]

Williams lives with his wife, Pam Van Sant, and two children, Gill and Ellie, in Utah, where Everwood was shot. The family also has homes in New York City and Manchester, Vermont.

Lorraine Gary (born August 16, 1937) is a retired American actress, best known for her role as "Ellen Brody" in Jaws, Jaws 2, and Jaws: The Revenge. She also appeared in 1941 and Car Wash.

Gary was born as Lorraine Gottfried in Forest Hills, Queens, New York on August 16, 1937, to Betty and George Gottfried, an entertainment business manager.^[1]

At an early age, she relocated with her family to Los Angeles, California, where she was raised. At age 16, she won a best actress award in a competition at the prestigious Pasadena Playhouse. She was offered a scholarship to enroll at the Pasadena Playhouse, but declined and attended Columbia University as a political science major instead.^[2]

She began her acting career in the late 1960s doing guest appearances on several popular TV shows. These include Night Gallery, The Virginian Dragnet 1967, McCloud, Kojak and The F.B.I..^[3] She began her first major acting role when she was a guest star on seven episodes of the TV series Ironside, among them "Tom Dayton Is Loose Among Us", in which she played the substitute librarian Miss Kirk, who pushes the unstable Tom Dayton too hard, and "In Search of an Artist", as a woman with a drinking problem who may have been involved in a murder.^{[citation needed]}
