Alor Setar
Alor Setar, known as Alor Star between 2004 and 2008, is the state capital of Kedah, Malaysia, and Kota Setar District's Administrative Centre. It is also a distribution center for manufacturing and agricultural products such as paddy, and the royal seat of the Kedah state since the establishment of this city. The city, which has an urban population of approximately more than 300,000, is one of the region’s oldest cities.
It is located 93 kilometers north of Butterworth, Penang and 45 km south of the Thai border.
It is also the birthplace of two Prime Ministers, YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia's first Prime Minister, and Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, Malaysia's fourth Prime Minister. Alor Setar was granted city status on 21 December 2003.
Alor Setar was founded in 1735 by Kedah’s 19th Ruler, Sultan Muhammad Jiwa Zainal Adilin II and is the state’s eighth administrative centre since the establishment of the Kedah Sultanate in 1136. The earlier administrative centres were located in Kota Bukit Meriam, Kota Sungai Emas, Kota Siputeh, Kota Naga, Kota Sena, Kota Indera Kayangan and Kota Bukit Pinang.

Baling
Baling is a major town in the northern state of Kedah in Malaysia. It is also the name of a district in which Baling town is situated. It is south of Betong, the southernmost town in Thailand.
The name Baling can be traced to a series of events detailed in the story of Raja Bersiong (The Fanged King), a popular legend of Kedah, recorded in the Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa. Raja Bersiong was a ruthless vampire-like king with a taste for human blood who preyed on his subjects. His subjects finally rose against him and burned down the palace. When the fanged king fled his palace at the Old Kedah capital in Lembah Bujang, he fled to a place named Merbau and began removing his fangs by twisting them by hand. As a result of the twisting act, Merbau was renamed as Merbau Pulas where pulas in Malay means twisting.
After the king had successfully removed both his fangs, he threw them away to a faraway place. The place where he stood when he threw his fangs is known as Baling which means throw and the place believed to be the site where the fangs landed was named Siong, which means fang in Malay, one of the villages in Baling district.

Bandar Baharu
Bandar Baharu is a district in Kedah, Malaysia. It is located between Penang and Perak border. Bandar Baharu District Council is a Local Authority Party that is given the authority under the governments Act of Law 124 (Temporary Provisions) for its administration area. Bandar Baharu District Council covers the whole Bandar Baharu district. It covers an area as wide as 169.3 km square and consists of seven sub-districts which are Serdang, Kuala Selama, Sungai Batu, Bagan Samak, Permatang Pasir, Sungai Kecil Ilir and Relau. Serdang is major and the administrative town of Bandar Baharu district.

This park was originally an inactive mine. Council's party has found its potential to be developed as a recreation garden since it is situated in the midst of Serdang town.Currently, this area already has children playground and exercise equipments. The budget was allocated from National Landscaping Department. District council has also received budget from Ministry of Culture, Art and Tourism of Malaysia this year to upgrade present components. This includes building new wakaf, providing picnic tables and chairs, building concrete bridges to link two lakes, pedestrian pathway and decorative lights around the park. Council's party also planned to build rest house and floating restaurant to attract tourist to visit Seri Tasik Park. With all the implemented plans and ideas, Council party hopes that Seri Tasik Park will attract tourist attention to this district in the future.

Bukit Kayu Hitam
Bukit Kayu Hitam is Kedah's main border town on the Malaysia-Thailand Border. It marks the end of the North-South Expressway and Malaysia Federal Route 1, the longest Malaysian road which runs from Johor Bahru, Johor in the south till the border at Bukit Kayu Hitam pass. The checkpoint and duty free shopping complex is located near the border. Across the border to the north is the town of Ban Dan Nok in the district of Sadao, Songkhla province in Southern Thailand. To its south in Malaysia is the town of Changlun.
The Bukit Kayu Hitam is the main road crossing between Malaysia and Thailand and lies at the northern end of the North-South Expressway. The expressway connects directly to Phetkasem Road (Thailand Route 4).
The Bukit Kayu Hitam customs, immigration and quarantine checkpoint lies about 800m south of the actual border. The checkpoint consists of drive-through immigration and customs lanes. The Thai checkpoint is called the Sadao immigration checkpoint and is located immediately after the Malaysian-Thai border in the town of Danok. The checkpoint also handles drive-through immigration and custom facilities, although some of the lanes are converted to handle pedestrian traffic.

Bukit Mertajam
Bukit Mertajam is the capital of Central Seberang Perai, Penang, Malaysia. It is commonly known as BM among its locals. It is located nearby Kulim, Kedah.
The town of Bukit Mertajam is named after the nearby hill with the highest peak at 547m above sea level. The hill is named after the Mertajam tree (Lepisanthes rubiginosa).

Changlun is a main border town in Kedah, Malaysia. It is located in the district of Kubang Pasu, about 42 km north from Alor Star and 8 km near Bukit Kayu Hitam. The word changlun was originated from Thai "ช้างลง" (RTGS: chang long), which means "fallen elephant".

Kangar
Kangar is the state capital of Perlis, Malaysia. It has a population of 48,898 and an area of 2,619.4 ha. Kedah
Kedah (also known by its honorific, Darul Aman, or "Abode of Peace"^{[citation needed]}) is a state of Malaysia, located in the northwestern part of Peninsular Malaysia. Archaeological evidence found in Bujang Valley reveals that a Hindu–Buddhist kingdom ruled ancient Kedah possibly as early as 110 A.D. The discovery of temples, jetty remains, iron smelting sites, and clay brick monuments dating back to 110 A.D shows that a maritime trading route with south Indian Tamil kingdoms was already established since that time. The discoveries in Bujang Valley also made the ancient Kedah as the oldest civilization of Southeast Asia.

KOMTAR
Komtar Tower, or Menara Komtar Complex is Penang's tallest building and the sixth tallest building in Malaysia located in the heart of George Town, dominating the island's skyline. KOMTAR is a portmanteau of Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak. When the skyscraper topped out it was the second tallest building in Asia after Sunshine 60 in Tokyo. Komtar was still Malaysia's tallest building for 3 years before it was surpassed by Menara Maybank in Kuala Lumpur in 1988.
Komtar is a multipurpose complex consisting of retail outlets, transportation hub and administrative offices for the Penang State Government. An acronym for Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak, KOMTAR was named after Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, the second prime minister of Malaysia, who officiated in the piling of Phase 1 on 1 January 1974. It bears the same name as Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak in Johor Bahru, built about the same time but on a smaller scale. The Johor Bahru KOMTAR only has 25 storeys.
The 65-storey tower is a 232 m (761 ft) 12-sided geometric block atop a 4-storey podium. The complex comprises office and retail commercial space as well as public and recreational facilities. It was designed by Architects Team 3 (AT3) of Singapore. and designed and constructed with local expertise, also a geodesic dome of Buckminster Fuller's design. The architect involved in the design of the building was Lim Chong Keat, the younger brother of Dr Lim Chong Eu.

Kuah
Kuah is a town and district capital of Langkawi, Kedah, and is the entry point for those coming by ferry from either the mainland or Penang Island. The town is centered on its jetty, which brings in flocks of tourists each year who come to enjoy the shopping and other attractions of Langkawi. Also, the nightlife in Kuah consists mostly of eating out in seafood restaurants, though there are a few bars and pubs located in some of the hotels.
Still, Kuah boasts many facilities and attractions, making it a convenient and attractive place to stay despite the lack of beach and night spots. Today, Kuah is indeed booming as a commercial center with shopping complexes, restaurants, fast food outlets, hotels and handicraft shops sprouting all over the horizon.

Kuala Muda
Kuala Muda is a district in Kedah, Malaysia. Sungai Petani is the administrative center of the district. Kuala Muda district is in close proximity to the border of Kedah and Penang. Kuala Nerang
Kuala Nerang is the district capital of Padang Terap district, Kedah, Malaysia. It is located on the northern part of Kedah.

Kulim
Kulim (Tamil: கூலிம்) is the third largest town in Kedah after Sungai Petani and Alor Star (state capital). It is located on the southeast of Kedah, bordering Penang on the west. Kulim evolved from a small settlement in the 1950s to a successful city which is the focus of many industrial complexes. The house of representative of Kulim is Bandar Baharu.
Kulim is a district consisting of 15 smaller sub-districts also known as "mukim".
Kulim as a town was started in mid-18th century by 100 Malays from Pattani. By mid-19th century Kulim experienced a boom due to the discovery of tin ore. By 1890, there were 400 Chinese miners operating in Kulim. One of Kulim’s earliest settlements was a place called Belakang Tebok.^{[citation needed]}
The biggest tin mining facilities in kulim were Taman Tunku Putra, Kg. Bukit Besar, Karangan, Terap and Kelang Lama. Archived records show that by 1854 there were 8 tin mining companies that were active in Kulim with a total workforce of 1500 people.^{[citation needed]}

Langkawi
Langkawi, officially known as Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah (Malay: Langkawi Permata Kedah) is an archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. The islands are a part of the state of Kedah, which is adjacent to the Thai border. On July 15, 2008, Sultan Abdul Halim of Kedah had consented to the change of name to Langkawi Permata Kedah in conjunction with his Golden Jubilee Celebration. By far the largest of the islands is the eponymous Pulau Langkawi with a population of some 64,792, the only other inhabited island being nearby Pulau Tuba. Langkawi means reddish brown eagle in colloquial Malay. The Malay word for eagle is helang - shortened is "lang". Kawi means the colour reddish brown.^{[citation needed]} It was given the title of "Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah" in 2008 by Kedah's Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah as part of his golden jubilee to impress on tourists that it was part of Kedah.

Menara Alor Setar
Menara Alor Setar is a 165.5 m (543 ft) telecommunication tower in Alor Setar, in the state of Kedah, Malaysia.
Apart from serving the role of a telecommunication tower, it also caters as a tourist destination for the town. The tower also houses some restaurants and a souvenir shop. The observation deck is at a height of 88 m (289 ft) from the base of the structure.

Penang Bridge
Penang Bridge (Jambatan Pulau Pinang in Malay) is a dual carriageway toll bridge connects George Town on the island of Penang and Seberang Prai on the mainland of Malaysia on the Malay Peninsula. The bridge is also linked to the North-South Expressway in Prai and Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway in Penang. It was officially opened to traffic on September 14, 1985. The total length of the bridge is 13.5 km (8.4 mi), making it the longest bridge in Malaysia as and the fourth-longest in Southeast Asia. The bridge was designed by Penang resident, Professor Chin Fung Kee, a well known civil engineer. Penang Bridge Sdn Bhd (PBSB) is the concession holder which manages it but now it is a member company of PLUS Expressway Berhad.
Before 1985, transportation between the island and the mainland was solely dependent on the state-owned Penang Ferry Service that runs between Butterworth and George Town. Toll fees is only paid when heading to the island. There is no charge for leaving the island.
Currently, Penang Bridge handles 65,000 vehicles daily and has a capacity of handling 85,000 vehicles daily. It has been expanded from 4 lanes to 6 lanes to accommodate increasing traffic on the bridge. A proposal for second bridge, the Penang Second Bridge, has been approved by the Malaysian federal government and included as one of the Ninth Malaysia Plan national projects. Construction work of the new Penang Second Bridge began in November 2008, and the target completion date is year 2013.

The bridge will be built with a large loan from the People's Republic of China to continue and maintain the economic relationship between China and Malaysia .

In the Burney Treaty, the exiled Kedah sultan Ahmad Tajuddin was not restored to his throne. Sultan Ahmad and his armed supporters then fought unsuccessfully for his restoration over twelve years (1830–1842).

The district was poised for rapid development with ongoing infrastructure projects such as road expansion spanning from Hutan Kampung, Pokok Sena and Kuala Nerang to Sungai Burung to spur new growth areas. Pokok Sena’s landscape will undergo rapid changes. Many housing projects are in the pipeline. A lot of opportunities will open up with construction projects and manufacturing facilities. The state government currently develop new township of this district called Bandar Baru Sejahtera Pokok Sena which cost about RM230 which complete in 2017.

Pulau Payar is one of the many islands off mainland Kedah in the Strait of Malacca. It is situated south of Langkawi, a more famous archipelago. Pulau Payar's status as a marine park offers protection for its diverse marine life. Pulau Payar is also a snorkeling and diving site famous for its corals.
The Pulau Payar Marine Park is situated in the northern part of the Straits of Melaka, 19 nautical miles (35 km) south of Langkawi and encompasses the islands of Pulau Payar, Pulau Lembu, Pulau Segantang and Pulau Kaca which are surrounded by coral reefs. The marine park teems with a fascinating diversity of marine life and vegetation.
Many endangered species of fishes and marine organisms live within the sanctuary. Measuring 2 km long and 1/4 km wide, Pulau Payar is the most popular of the islands as its sheltered waters are ideal are for snorkeling, diving and swimming. Among the enchanting dive spots is the "Coral Garden", an area covered with bright, multi-hued soft corals.
There are several sandy beaches on Pulau Payar island for picnics as well as hiking trails for those who wish to explore the island. Just off the beach, one can indulge in the thrilling experience of feeding baby sharks. Facilities include gazebos, picnic tables, barbecue pits and restrooms at selected areas. There is also a Visitors' Centre that provides information about the marine park.

Sintok is located about 52 kilometres from Alor Setar City and about twelve kilometres from Changlun Town. Sintok is reachable via Kuala Perlis-Changlun-Sintok expressway and via a road from Padang Terap.
The name "Sintok" is taken from the name of a type of tree. The town was originally a remote settlement area for tin miners. However, due to its close proximity to the border of Malaysia-Thailand, Sintok was exposed to threats from the banned communist group. Hence, the government had to migrate all the original residents to a safer area, and declared the town are as a 'black area'. History recorded many killings of members of the security forces in the area.
By mid 1980s, the federal and state government agreed on building a university in Sintok. The university was named Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), literally translated as "Northern University of Malaysia", and construction started in the late 1980s to replace the temporary campus in Bandar Baru Darul Aman, Jitra.

Ahmad Fauzi Saari (born 30 April 1982 in Kulim, Kedah), is a Malaysian professional football player currently playing as a central midfielder for Johor FC.
Ahmad Fauzi Saari grew up in Ladang Anak Kulim, where his father was a supervisor (Malay: mandor) and her mother used to ease their financial burden by tapping rubber there. Tan Sri Ismail Omar is the 9th and current Inspector General of Royal Malaysian Police succeeding Tan Sri Musa Hassan.

In 1999 he was promoted to ranks of Assistant Commissioner of Police and was made head of the CID Legal and Prosecution Affairs in Bukit Aman. He then moved up the ranks and was made Assistant CID Director in 2004 with the rank of Second Senior Assistant Commissioner.

Kulim (Tamil: கூலிம்) is the third largest town in Kedah after Sungai Petani and Alor Star (state capital). It is located on the southeast of Kedah, bordering Penang on the west. Kulim evolved from a small settlement in the 1950s to a successful city which is the focus of many industrial complexes. The house of representative of Kulim is Bandar Baharu.

Kulim is a district consisting of 15 smaller sub-districts also known as "mukim".

Kulim as a town was started in mid-18th century by 100 Malays from Pattani. By mid-19th century Kulim experienced a boom due to the discovery of tin ore. By 1890, there were 400 Chinese miners operating in Kulim. One of Kulim’s earliest settlements was a place called Belakang Tebok.^{[citation needed]}

The biggest tin mining facilities in kulim were Taman Tunku Putra, Kg. Bukit Besar, Karangan, Terap and Kelang Lama. Archived records show that by 1854 there were 8 tin mining companies that were active in Kulim with a total workforce of 1500 people.^{[citation needed]}

In 1888, there was a major incident in Kulim, dubbed ‘Beautiful Nyonya War’ (Perang Nyonya Cantik) or Kulim War (Perang Kulim). This incident started when the mining chiefs of Kulim fought over a popular Chinese lady of the time. The chiefs mobilized their respective workers in this seemingly minor squabble escalated into a major riot. Peace and tranquility enjoyed by the people of Kulim was disrupted by this incident and it dragged on for a number of years, and claimed a number of lives of the involved parties.^{[citation needed]}

The direct consequences of this incident was the hiring of a British national (B.E. Mitchell) as the chief of police of Kulim (1890) by the ruler of Kedah, and the worsening economic problem of the state. The Bangkok treaty, ratified in 1909, ceded Siam’s influence in Kedah to the British, however, only by 1923 did Sultan Abdul Hamid of Kedah sign a treaty which recognizes Kedah as a state under British protectorate.^{[citation needed]}

A few of the classical monuments still existing in Kulim includes Coronation Cinema, St. Patrick’s High School (1933), which was converted into a trade building, Sultan Badlishah High School (1948), Kulim Police Station and so on.

Meanwhile the Kulim’s independence clock was officiated by the Sultan of Kedah (15 September 1957) and serves as the unofficial landmark for the city of Kulim. The cornerstone of the clock was acquired by YPM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al Haj (the First Prime Minister if Malaya, later Malaysia) on 14 June 1957.

The construction of the clock was completed within 3 months and upon completion, was made formalized by DYMM Tuanku Sultan Badlishah Ibni Almarhum Yang Di Pertuan Paduka Seri Sultan Abdul Hamid Shah, KOM, CMG, KBE Sultan Kedah on 15 September 1957, or 2 weeks after the declaration of independence of Malaysia (31 August 1957).^[3]

The total cost of the independence clock was paid for by the residents of Kulim (records show that RM40000 was raised) as a testament of the success of the country to gain independence from the British. The independence clock was and still is the pride of the people of Kulim. It was recently renovated to include a small fountain system.

The establishment of Kulim Hi-tech park is hoped to be a catalyst for the continued growth of Kulim.^[4]

It has been proposed to build a light rail(LRT) system, like Kuala Lumpur's by 2020.^[5]

Kulim still maintains shop houses that were around since before the Second World War. Unfortunately, many of these houses were demolished to make way for newer structures of development. The independence clock serves as the city’s landmark, and is one of the old structures that remain in place.^[6]

In 1996, the Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP) was officially opened as the first and fully integrated high technology industrial park in Malaysia. With the development of phase two of the MSC connecting Georgetown, Bertam and KHTP, potentials of development as the science and cyber city would spur on the development of other downstream industries in Kulim.^{[citation needed]}

The Park comprises a total land area of approximately 14.5 square kilometres (5.6 mi²). Many local and foreign companies, such as Intel, Fuji Electric, Infineon, Showa Denko, First Solar, Gazzo Food, Entegris, Celestica and SilTerra have moved to the site since then.^[9] It is strategically located nearby North-Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT) and Bayan Lepas International Airport. According to the Ninth Malaysia Plan, this economic area is referred to as the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER). The Northern Corridor Economic Region is one of three development regions formed in Peninsular Malaysia, other development regions being the Iskandar Malaysia (or South Johor Economic Region) and the East Coast Development Region.

Kulim Hi-tech Park

Located 8 kilometres from Kulim Town. It is the first integrated Hi-tech Park in Malaysia. The main activities at this park are jogging and cycling whilst enjoying the breathtaking wonders of the landscape. There are also facilities like pedestrian walks, gazebos, benches and children’s playground.

Junjung Waterfalls Recreation

Located in Junjung and is about 14 kilometres from Kulim Town. Ever since 1980s, this destination has been a great tourist attraction with its main product being the waterfalls and ecosystem surroundings of the forest, rubber plantation as well as fruit orchards. During fruit seasons, especially the durian season, visitors can buy the fruits directly from the orchard owners. The main activities or program to be enjoyed here include picnicking, dipping, swimming and camping.

Sungai Sedim Recreation

Sungai Sedim with its fast currents and rapids along with a forest ecosystem is the best place for exciting recrteational activities. The main activities here include kayaking or White Water Rafting for a distance of 15 kilometres.. Besides, it is also a favourite for picnicking, dipping, swimming and camping at designated places apart from organizing of courses or workshops for self improvement and groups. This destination is known as the Camp Site of the Kedah Royalty. This destination is located between the District of Kulim and Baling.

Mount Bungsu

This is found in the Mount Bungsu Forest Reserves. The height of Mount Bungsu is 658 metres with its peak at Mukim Terap. The scenery from its peak is truly exhilarating with flora and fauna and the panoramic view surrounding it. This is where historical traces are found like the communist fort. For visitors who would like to try heavy activities like mountain climbing and cycling or dirt biking, Mount Bungsu would be a good training field and a challenge apt to their abilities. The meandering flow and rapid falls of the river is enough to attract visitors here all the time.

Pahau

Located in the forest reserves of Mount Bungsu, this is an educational forest that boasts of a myriad of replanted forest plant species and forest ecosystem surroundings. The main activities here include educational tours to the research centres and forest replanting, jungle trekking and Pahau camps located 23 kilometres from Kulim Town.

Ulu Paip Recreation

Located within the Forest Reserves of Mount Bungsu with rapid river and forest ecosystem surroundings. The main activities here include picnicking, dipping, swimming and camping. During the journey to this destination, visitors will also find fruit orchards and former mining ponds on both sides of the road. This destination is 20 kilometres from Kulim Town.

Tree Top Walk

Tree Top Walk is the latest attraction that awaits visitors. The iron bridge, which is better known as the Tree Top Walk above Sungai Sedim was constructed so high up that it almost touches the tree tops across Sungai Sedim. The view from the bridge is simply breathtaking.

Peak of Mount Bintang

Fast flowing rapids and waterfalls feast your eyes during the journey up this mountain. The main program here would be jungle trekking while appreciating the wonders of fauna and flora, exploring caves as well as mountain climbing to enjoy the panoramic view from the mountain top. Its height reaching 1,862 metres make it the highest mountain in its range. Geographically, the peak of Mount Bintang is the boundary marker for districts in two states.

Kulim Lake Garden (Tunku Putra Lake)
